Painfully underrated class. Though NGL the Assassin (think it was called strider still in Dragons Dogma Online without the bow) has to be the best/ most fun iteration we've had yet. Though I will say I miss the classes from DDON the most.
Noxious arrow knocks dragons out of the sky every time too. Spiral arrow is crazy good in multiple scenarios. Dire arrow lets you pin slash immune mobs so you can stomp them to death with your feet. Exploding arrow like you said is insane. That’s my four. Hydra bow is better than the dragon one at end game for some reason. There’s a ring for more arrow damage the closer you are, it’s significant. Pawns: fighter setup to tank, mage heals with some augment for magic damage, sorcerer for big aoe. Dwarves blacksmithing is great for better knockdown potential. Glad you like the best class in the game too ❤
On my archer I used drenching shot (water arrow) and my main pawn is a mage with ice affinity. My party would instantly freeze any enemy that was drenched, it's great to get in burst damage on the bigger enemies.
Started my first playthrough as an archer. I got up to vocation five then got bodied by a Minotaur. Promptly swapped over to thief, and immediately maxed that sucker out
Yep. Archer just isn't good in this game. Thief is the best at trash (especially with Smoke Shroud), the Sorcerer at bosses with Flare, and the Magick Archer is the middle-ground between the two. Archer, Fighter and Warrior are low tier in this. Also, Thief has the best movement in the game for traveling the map. Dodge step > basic attack > Dodge step is actually faster than dashing and uses no stamina. WTF Capcom?
Yeah I skipped the arrow skills because I didn't want to manage finding and buying special arrows but when I got the explosive arrows it made so many fights way faster than before. And to think I didn't use it for 30 hours lol
They are only ridiculous until late game, unless you upgrade your bows to the appropriate levels, it's effect is weaker against drakes near the end. Lets say that: Vernworth - You aim for 300-400 points of attack. Bakbattahl - You aim for 600-700 points of attack. Volcanic Region - You aim for 800+ points of attack. If you are off by 100-200 points, you will notice that the damage drop off is reduced so much, that a dragon will shrug off one 'vital point' explosive arrow hit for a small chunk of their current gauge (like 10% of a single gauge, instead of maybe 20-40%).
I would love to see more build videos containing ultimate pawn setups for the same vocation. Pawns use abilities differently and their setups require experience running them to see how they act in combat. I would live to start seeing some more people who have tons of hours to play video games for a living, share their knowledge and opinions on the best way to setup an Archer Pawn… in this case.
It is worth noting that pawns are really bad with Archer as far as I can tell. The Archer is all about hitting those weak points and pawns just don't do that. Also note that getting Subtlety augment from Theif level 2 really helps (Also helps Mages and Sorcerers) as it means you don't get targeted much. Please note though, that all your pawns will now get hit more often as the enemy attacks are now spread between 3 instead of 4.
Pawns can do well with archer my experience. Pawn AI is weird and you need to prune their abilities down to the ones the AI can utilize well . I've seen a pawn obliterate Chimeras with Tempest Shot after I knocked it down. They can use the special arrows as well if they have the equipped ability and you fill their inventory.
I’m still in the first part of the game, and Spiral Arrow just eats health bars, especially if you land multiple of them on weak points. Chimeras, Cyclops, and Minotaurs literally fall in seconds with this attack. Definitely one of the best moves in the game
Now you just need to find pawns that only carries specific skills like Spiral Shot and Erupting Shot. Make all your party archers and give everyone 99 explosive arrows.
Archer combos: Front kick, jump front kick (stun them into a flip) Loose, jump, front kick (arrow stun into flip) Run sideways to dodge enemy attack, run into into enemy, jump, front Run to dodge attack, loose arrow to slide and shoot, jump, front kick (dodges an attack, slide further dodges, retaliate with arrow, flip)
"naked" thief on low life.....healthbar -> gone. Warfarer can plant explosive arrow + powder blast and gut and run off the weakpoint and then set off charge+explosive at the same time.
Use the Slide attack in close range. Make sure you slide into an enemy then immediately do the jump attack then follow up with a snipe attack to the head and it's basically John Wick mode with a bow. Very flashy and looks BA.
Everything but exploding shot needs to be seriously buffed, The miser skill is laughably terrible for a "1-shot" skill. Lets say your firing and hitting weakpoints, miser skill takes 3-5 secs to do 40% its hp bar, where normal shots do the same dmg in 3 or 4 shots with no stamina lose...so dps is way higher. For all the utility that bow has,it really needs to be stronger as a damage dealer.
Or or or or hear me out. Cast Frosthunter bolt on Magick Archer and kill every large enemy in the entire game in 3 shots or less. Any dungeon you walk into a couple fully charged Ricochet shots clear it entirely. Recovery arrow for full heals and revives at max range and the 4th slot can literally be whatever tf you want. No reason to play normal archer whatsoever
Sounds strong but kinda boring lol. I play to have a classic ranger fantasy, so just shooting normal arrows and bow is ideal before any gameplay perks. Also so satisfying shooting a little guy in the head with arrow sticking out of his head as he drops. Some people play classes for vibes rather than power.

I’m level 50 at her and I never scope in unless the enemy is “downed” or knocked so I can manually target the head. The rest of the time I auto shoot and activate the whirling arrow or explosive arrow. On controller/ps5
IDK what happened, but i felt like my archer fell off a cliff damage wise later on. MA felt like it did more damage with its auto-aim sagitae or the ice skill, than my full charged maister skill into a weakpoint that locks you in place. The autos just do way more than my precision steady shots do and it made me sad. I was hoping to warfarer with both of them and have the ultimate range build and the bow just felt super weak outside of the poison.
Yes i noticed the same thing, I started as archer and then went magick archer and later swapped back and it felt like my shots were only tickling most mobs. It's almost as if the bow damage was broken or something and that's with the best bow bought at the volcano outpost. No idea how to fix it cause before it seemed to do a lot more damage
Any tips for doing steady aim, re: controls? I'm on PS5, so if I manually aim my right thumb is the one in charge of both moving the right control stick and tapping the necessary face button. Can be pretty tough to hit weak points on moving enemies this way!
