I'm a Lutheran, but I have always had a profound respect for the Catholic Church. if it hadn't been for my friends within that Church, I would never have known Christ the way I do now. +John Stiles For crying out loud. Every heretic in the Church has had the same baptism. The issue with Lutherans and those heretics is that they do not have the same faith. If we had the same faith, then Lutherans would already be Catholics.
*So Lutherans can receive communion when they abandon their errors and actually do end up with the same faith i.e. the Catholic faith!*

The Holy Father simply has said that He has no authority at all in this regard..
We can be as ecumenists as we like, but you come to Communion trough Conversion; and Conversion is always an intimate issue, a personal choice.
If you believe in Transubstantiation of the Body of Christ, or at least if you can accept to be lead by others in this understanding of the Eucharist (by the Saints for example), maybe you should consider to convert and be again in the communion with the Vicar of Christ.
I think this was what the Holy Father was trying to say to Lutheran people when he said "talk to the Lord and move forward".

+Zaphod Trillian You brought up that the church magisterium is throwing out doctrine like purgatory and hell and sin. As far as the priests I talk to and the Catholic studies I participate in, not one doctrine has been thrown out. My take on Pope Francis is that which follows Jesus's own teaching, love the sinner and show mercy and forgiveness. Aren't we all sinners? Don't we put ourselves first instead of others Have you heard something different Zaphod that the church is changing any of its doctrine? It is my understanding that the Pope cannot change church doctrine, it has to go before the whole magisterium. For example, People who are divorced still have to go through annulment process to be reconciled with the church. Pope Francis, at the request of parishes world wide is trying to shorten the process as it takes a couple of years to do that. The Catholic church, at least where I live has had interfaith dialogue for many years. The Lutherans are one of the Protestant faiths that is the most like Catholics. Yes we have doctrinal differences. But Jesus Christ himself has given all Christians the commission of "Go make disciples and share the gospel message with all". Shouldn't that be the most important thing of any Christian. But I am just resPponding to this video that I really like what Pope Francis is doing. Don't mean to get into a confrontation with anyone. These are just my views and I am not an expert. May God's love and peace be with you Zaphod and to all.

I grew up with a Lutheran dad and Catholic mom. I was confirmed in the Lutheran church but became non denominational because I’m a strong believer in the idea that Jesus would want anyone who accepts Him and follows Him are all equal in the eyes of God. No divisions. I found it ironic that Catholics and Lutherans wish to be united but fail to actually take action and merge together.
I’ve actually taken communion in a Catholic Church many times because the relationship between me and God is between me and God. I see myself as a Christian but like Catholics do. Difference is, I don’t label myself as a Catholic.

  • @jimcook1747
    @jimcook1747 Рік тому

Pope Francis tells us to take the implications from St Paul's phrase: "One Faith, One Baptism, One Lord". It is good Pope Francis declared St Irenaeus Doctor of Unity, as he is helpful here. St Irenaeus teaches that we are delivered tue rule of Faith by our Baptism and that if we persevere in living the Faith, either from innocently living after Baptism or after penance, we will be saved. The Doctor also teaches that the shared Faith makes the Church one household, as opposed to heretics who have a confusing variety of different doctrines. Apply this to the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the "source and Sacrament" of the Church's unity (St. JPII, "Ecclesia de Eucharistia"). To partake of it means to thus strengthen our already existing bond of unity in the Church. Thus it presupposes that we share the same Faith, since shared Faith makes us one household. And only members of the household partake of the one family bread. Since Lutherans have a different Faith to Catholics, they do not belong to the same Church, and thus cannot partake of the same Eucharist together. To do so would be to lie.

This is crazy, the Pope could have answered this question easily and politely.
When you believe you may recieve.
If you don't believe that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. Abstain
For it is better to Abstain then profane the Sacrament.
We Love our Christian Brothers and Sisters, but we must also Love in Truth.
    Because Paul warns us.....
    1 Corinthians 11,27
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the
cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning
against the body and blood of the Lord. Each one must examine himself
before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who
eats and drinks without recognising the body eats and drinks
judgement on himself. That is why many among you are weak and
sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
In John 6, Christ does not speak metaphors here, and many of his followers turn away.
    Christ has but One Flesh.
So those that recieve it ought be of One Faith, the Catholic One.
The Church wants Christians to recieve the Sacrament. But not to Profane it.
If a Priest gives Communion to an Un-confirmed Christian in full knowledge that Priest is a Heretic, who does alot of Harm to both Himself and the Un-confirmed Person recieving. Profaning the sacrament, and denying the true presence of Christ.
This is tremendously upsetting since the Priests are Gods Annointed Ones.
Mathew 5,37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
St Ignatius and Martyr 35AD-108AD Bishop of Antioch, Student of the Apostle John. Wrote this:
"Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ which has come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God... They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes."

One baptism, one Lord, one faith. Talk to the Lord and move forward. But still not allowed to have communion in Catholic church. Why? Because for Catholics the wine is blood of Christ. For Catholics the bread is the body of Christ. For Lutherans we drink the wine to remember the blood of Christ and we eat the bread to remember the body of Christ. A very thiny difference. But we have the same baptism, the same Lord and one Christian faith. Therefore I do not like churces as a 'domicile' too many differences and interpretations. Therefore I choose the word of God and leave the rest.

What would be needed for union? Lutherans would have to accept the other 5 sacraments, purgatory, and accept the deuterocanonical books as inspired, and accept papal authority. The teaching of Scripture alone (a teaching not found in Scripture) would have to go, and Tradition would have to be accepted. (The Lutheran teaching that the pope is antichrist is found in the Smalcald Articles of the Lutheran Book of Concord, but not all Lutheran groups even accept as official teaching all that is in the Book of Concord. In practice, most Lutherans have never heard of the Book of Concord, or read it, much less read all of Luther's Works.) Catholics would have to accept certain Lutheran customs as well as (as they did with the Anglicans) use of such things as the King James Bible (with the deuterocanonical books, of course. William Tyndale was a Lutheran). Catholics would have to reaffirm the conviction of the Church in the plenary verbal inspiration of Scripture, very important to sacramental Lutherans (there will be no union with the pro-abortion crowd). The teachings of Westcott-Hort, and the Higher Criticism of the Bible (inventions of liberal Protestants, not Lutherans) would have to go. The teachings of Darwin and Dawkins would have to go (no liberal consigning of Genesis to the realm of myth and legend). Lutherans would have to accept the goodness of good works as well as grace and faith ; Catholics would have to repudiate the idea of works-righteousness or that God's grace can be bought with money (a belief not uncommon about Catholics among some Lutherans). In the Catholic response to the Lutheran Augsburg Confession, agreement was proclaimed by that Catholics with about one third of it, while another third was accepted with qualifications, and the final third was rejected. Lutherans and Catholics will both have to accept that the breakup of the Church in the 16th Century was a tragedy that should not have happened, and need not have happened. Will Lutheran-Catholic union be easy? No. But then again, nothing that is really good really is.

    Revelation 12
7Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9The great dragon was hurled down-that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
    11They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
    and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.
    12Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
    He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
13When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach. 15Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. 16But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring-those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus.

Arians who denied the divinity of Christ had the same baptism too. So did countless other heretics. The Church and the saints had no difficulty saying whether or not they can receive communion. The fact that Lutherans have a valid baptism means nothing for this particular issue as long as they cling to heretical beliefs.

That doesn't make any sense even to Catholic doctrine. That's insulting the Word of God, putting it down and saying that we sinful humans do it better than God's divine power.

    CONFESSION AND HOLY COMMUNION
A: ...they must receive the Sacraments; receive them in the proper way. True confession, not just participation in penitential ceremonies, and Communion. At this time (Communion) the priest should say “Lord, I am not worthy” three times, and not just once.[7] Communion must he received in the mouth and not in the hand.
E: Speak only the truth, in the name of the Precious Blood, the Holy Cross, the Immaculate Conception of Lourdes. Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima!
A: We racked our brains for a very long time down there (he points downward), until we succeeded in getting Communion in the hand under way.[8] Communion in the hand... Communion in the hand is very good for us in Hell, believe me!
E: We order you, in the name... to say only what Heaven orders you! Speak only the truth, you have no right to lie, so leave off, stop it!
A: She (he points upward) wishes me to say...
E: Tell the truth, in the name...!
A: She wishes me to say... that if She, the Great Lady, were still living on earth. She would receive Communion in the mouth, but on her knees, and She would bow deeply, like this (he makes the gesture).
E: In the name of the Blessed Virgin... and of the Thrones, by order of the Thrones, tell the truth!
A: I have to say the Communion must not be received in the hand. The Pope himself gives Communion in the mouth. He does not want Communion to be given in the hand at all. That comes from the Cardinals.
E: In the name..., by order of the Thrones, tell the truth!
A: Then it went to the bishops and they imagined that it was a question of obedience, that they must obey the cardinals. Finally, it came to the priests, and they, in turn, imagined that they had to conform, because obedience is written in very large letters.

St Paul warns us that "For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves." Catholics have always understood the Eucharist as "body, blood, soul and divinity" that comes to us by "transubstantiation". Lutherans do NOT. Catholic's are taught that in order to observe the warning of St. Paul, we must receive communion in the state of sanctifying grace, that can only be achieved in the sacrament of confession. Lutherans do not have the sacrament of confession, so how do they "achieve" sanctifying grace". If Catholics must receive communion by regular confession, then how do we reconcile the fact that Lutherans can't!!?? Lutheran's should refrain from receiving communion in a catholic Church. Lutheran communion is understood as "consubstantiation", and they do not believe in the "real presents" the way Catholics do! If they did, where is their tabernacle? The Pope is wrong, again! the pope is an indifferentist. This was condemned as a heresy in the early church.
