Whenever there's a story with a bad ending, I always imagine the protagonist whips out reddit on their phone and texts their story at lightning speeds before posting and ultimately dying.

"Hey, hold up just a minute okay?"
*types entire story that could easily be a feature length movie*

This is why I dislike these first-person stories it makes the protagonist come off as retarded.
Also, need to allow time to type up the TL;DR

To be fair most would assume it’s ritual new guy hazing, but the kicker should be once they realize it’s real then they need to take it seriously even though in some stories they keep fucking up. Depends on who you get the rules from, if it’s from your boss or a senior, experienced employee then it should have weight to it but if it’s someone on your level and they seem like a screwball then there’s be an argument to challenging the validity.
I do appreciate that Oscar being able to write this story from the grave is foreshadowed by him being led into Harvey’s bunker. Harvey lead him there.

True, but at least the bunker was safe, what confuses me is that at the end it’s revealed that Sam is the smiling lady and Sam said she knew about the bunker, so why didn’t she get the guy when he was in the bunker? That’s the million dollar question

@@CamDaCrusaderr I like to think there are more than 10 rules, and the bunker was for example one of them. throughout the story it's obvious the smiling lady is obligated to abide by the 10 rules. for example she can't just kill Oscar when he hides under the covers because it is one of the "rules". even though it is pretty damn obvious hes hiding there.

I knew Sam was a traitor, I could just tell. Wouldn't have trusted her. She seemed desperate, unnatural. RIP Harvey, it probably took months for him to trust Sam, but that eventually lead him to his downfall. Oscar didn't think rationally, he was frightened and wanted a way out. Mf Sam told Oscar she knew where the bunker is so he might accidentally reveal the real location for her, Harvey didn't trust Sam in the first place bc he didn't tell him the location of his bunker(If he did the smiling lady would've killed him in the bunker), which means Harvey was not lured into the cave by sam, he probably figured out the real rule and went in there to save his family but got caught before he can do anything, Just like you said Sam lied to Oscar about the 10th rule, you can actually run away from the smiling lady, the reason Harvey didn't run is not because he can't is because he was trying to save his wife and son, man the details in this story is just mindblowing

RULE#2: don’t ever say “what the heck.”
Good entertaining story though
As the ancient law speaks "everything better with a shotgun " hillbillynomicon 14:66
@Loopy considering that the smiling lady is a physical corpse, it would be damaged by gunfire. Bird shot, buck shot, or slugs would probably be the most effective, followed by hollow points, R.I.P rounds, and maybe 5.56 NATO or 5.45x39 as both of these rounds are ballistically similar in the fact that if they hit bone they can ricochet in the body. As for other paranormal entities of similar size and anatomy of a human a simple rule can be applied: shoot it with slugs, buck shot, buck and ball, and/or bolo shot from a 12 gauge till it's a pile of chunks that would make the Doomslayer proud.

Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.
In a game, there would be a day and night cycle, you are free to roam the forest, explore and stuff, during day you can find campers, you chase them away. Gain xp by doing daytime activities like this, finding collectibles etc. But before night comes, you need to head back to the tower, or else you might run into the smiling lady, which roams the forest, and if too close can hear you if you make noise and will chase you untill you get into your tower. At 00:00 am she will spawn in at a random location in the forest, but will teleport to the players vicinity every now and then. While at and inside the tower, one of the rules will happen, which one is decided by rng. If you fail, you die. But you will have to survive the night by following the rules.
MAKE! THIS!! GAME!!!
THIS NEEDS TO BE A GAME🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Been listening to these for years. Very rarely do they spook me. This one has me so startled, I dunno why.
same, i have no idea why it scares me but it does
This one also spooked me quite a bit. Usually these rule stories are super cheesy and not scary but this one was well done.
lankeysob I agree. I’ve heard dozens of these stories before, and I really liked this one in particular. I think I’ve even heard one before about a fire watcher and a smiling lady who smiles from the bottom of the tower. I really like the rules and, despite some of the dumb actions of the protagonist, the good following of the rules was nicely consistent. I really liked how he reasoned/instinctively went through the rules once he got the hang of it. It’s a good, consistent story that listens to its own rules and premises.
