    I could never figure out how to use Scenes until watching this video. I have watch several other peoples videos on Automations, Scenes and Scripts but I could never make my own Scene work. Until now, you showed that after entering the devices the next step is to click on the device to fill out the details of what is needed. Thank you for being so clear on what is needed.

    Awesome! Creating a temporary scene with a snapshot of my led lights is exactly what I need. I did not know about this action. Thank you very much for this great explanation! Now when my led strip is on with my favorite ambient color, it can flash blue when the washer is finished and then turn back to the same color it was before 😍

    Great video! I love your style of concise and practical suggestions, easy-to-understand delivery, and the dash of Paul Hibbert references. Time for me to figure out some scenes, and then figure out how to undo whatever parts of them annoy my wife.

      Thank you! I'm honestly just creating videos on things that I wish I knew when I started down this Home Automation rabbit hole, so it's great to hear that other people find them useful!
      I am a big Paul Hibbert fan, he has an amazing channel and have learned a lot from him.

    Honestly you can do way more way easier by using rooms. When setting up an automation do “call service” “light.on” or “light.off” then select the area you want. Then when you get a new bulb, or move lights, then just move it from one area to another. That way you don’t have to alter 12 scenes anytime you move a bulb

    Thanks! This is exactly what I needed to understand scenes. Just annoyed with the home assistant software itself that there isn't a "revert scene" option :/

    nice! i've a similar setup, HA and zigbee based stuff, only difference is that i tried using appdaemon to create more complicated automation (like binary sensor > lights blinking, ) and more importantly for the appdaemon dashboard that i can run with my very old ipads. Gonna try out the magic cube!
    perhaps would be good if you can talk about (if not yet)
    - smarthome, power outage, UPS
    - networking for CCTV on VPN & HA integration
    good stuff! keep it up

    Great Video! Although I use a different SmartHome system your videos always inspire me for my SmartHome.
    Have you ever thought about automating your video call scene? With software like "event ghost" for example you wouldn't have to shake your cube, when a call comes in. Your lights would set up automatically ;)
    Looking forward to new content on your channel.

      I'm not allowed to install 3rd party software on my work computer, so I can't trigger these automations or scenes when I'm on a video call unfortunately. It's a great idea though! A lot of people love it

    Hi. Excelent video, is it possible have a scene that turn on Netflix on my tv, but if my wifi plugue is off, the scene start by turn on the wifi plugue and after execute the remote control sequence, if not, (tv already started) the scene only execute remote control sequence that I create in my wifi remote control?

    Just been following along but got stuck at the Flashing Light bit. I couldn't find the settings for Flash. In the end I edited the YAML and pasted your code in, then I saved it and switched back to UI mode and it was there. Would have never known it was an option if I had just relied on looking through the UI. Thanks.

    Is there a way to make everything in the scene happen at the same time? I’m getting the popcorn effect with Insteon lighting I watch them turn on one at a time. And with that company disappearing I can’t create a scene with the Insteon app anymore

    Nice video. for the Magic cube, did you draw or use stickers on the sides?

    • @HomeAutomationGuy
      @HomeAutomationGuy  2 роки тому

      I used stickers! I found some icons I wanted to use on Canva, and then got the stickers printed via Moo. You can see the whole process on the video I did about the Magic Cube ua-cam.com/video/wRf9RT2YgaI/v-deo.html
      Or you can get the stickers from here: www.canva.com/design/DAEeFGcOvyI/njeSi3gRU1c--k1bz6x57A/view

      @@HomeAutomationGuy Thanks. i just watched the video. Have you done the Zigbee 2 MQTT video? I use ZHA and I've always wanted to know which is best of the two.

    • @HomeAutomationGuy
      @HomeAutomationGuy  2 роки тому

      @@xtremeideaz I have not done a video about that, but it's one that I was thinking about doing in future. I've used both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT in my setups and to be honest there's not a huge amount of difference. Zigbee2MQTT has a bit more compatibility with a larger range of devices, but ZHA is way easier to use.

    Can I have other scenes in my scene? Tried but didn´t activate correctly.

    The temporary scene ok, I can follow, but a normal scene. I see no use for it at all. I can group lights and do the same with one command in an automation just not only turning on the lights but also add the parameters for brightness, RGB and so on when switching it on.
    In my eyes HA scenes are absolutely useless as I can do it via a normal automation and as fast as with a scene.
    When I first read scene I thought it would be a group of parameters I define for my device and when I need it, I just tell HA to use these parameters on my device. That would really make sense.
    For example I want all my corridor lights to switch on with a special brightness, warmness or color depending of the time range the light is turned on. I don't want all lights to turn on with these parameters, no they should go on with these parameters when they are needed. So lets say I have 5 individual lights and I want to have 3 different kind of parameter set for these lights, Day, dawn/dusk and night. With scenes I now need to define 15 different scenes. just to accomplish this. That's bullshit. Then I can define three automations with if else clause to make that. It is the same, but far more easier to track.
    I'm sure with yaml or in Node-RED you can easily program it by using a set of parameters in a variable to accomplish this. Unfortunately I'm not firm enough in either of them to do it. Then if you want to add another light with these same settings you don't need to create another three scenes or if you think the parameters for night should be different I don't need to change x-scenes so everything is fine. I change it once at one place.
    That I would call a useful use of a scene.
    Just my humble opinion.
