Backyard Transformation - Part 1

- Welcome to part one of our backyard transformation! We had to replace our deck because it was literally rotting through. So we got a composite deck in its place and even added a concrete patio to expand our outdoor living.
I wanted to bring this space to life by adding some string lights on the new patio and deck. But I had to get creative. So I did a very simple DIY with the help of @BedBathBeyond
I picked out these stylish but sturdy planters and put a string light pole in it. Using quick setting concrete, we secured the poles in the cement. (We used two bags of concrete per planter to make sure they will stay in place.) These planters were the perfect fit for the light poles while still giving us enough space for all the concrete to weight it down as well as give us room for planting.
Then we simply hooked on our patio lights and snapped the poles in place. You can even stake these string light poles into the lawn. But because this was on our deck and concrete patio, we used planters. And the planters were deep enough for this project while taking up very little square footage.
We did a zig zag pattern with four packs of string lights from Bed Bath and Beyond and strung them across the deck and patio with the help of those string light poles!
Then I drilled a hole on the side of the planters above the concrete for drainage. Filled it with potting soil and planted some flowers to give some life to the space.
It looks incredible during the day but even better at night. Look how lovely everything looks under the patio lights!

Very nice! Wouldn't it be easier to mix the concrete in the planter and THEN stick the pole in it?
Thanks Mardon! We did try that, but the pebbles in the bag make it difficult to place it in as up right as possible while also reaching to the bottom before it dries quickly!
Bed bath and beyond went out of business though I though
They transitioned to online! Also, can I say their customer service was actually amazing - had to do some returns and I called a few times - no holds!
How do the planters drain excess water?

Where did you get the furniture?
I got them from Article from a few summer ago, so they are likely still discontinued. The rest I got from Bed Bath and Beyond

That’s too much furniture in that space. My goodness
I usually like a cozy feeling but I agree on this one. That is seating for 8 to 10 people... you'd be tripping over each other if you needed to get up 😅
