    One of the nicest little rigs I have seen.

    From the written description I can infer that this is probably one of the most reliable rigs you can build, super reliable VW TDI mated to Toyota running gear, this is exactly what I want to build.

    Sweet rig. The AAZ sounds healthy!

    The tire pressure is high, so if you deflate more and secure the ground contact area of the tire, I think that Samurai can easily clear it.

    looks like you could use a doubler in there to get some deeper crawl ratios

    • @nickhurd703
      @nickhurd703  4 роки тому

      A double would be great, but would end up too far back for the rear drive line. I at least need t case gear reduction though

    • @evinsteven13
      @evinsteven13 4 роки тому +1

      @@nickhurd703 The doubler with the tracker transmission, if done properly, doesn't change the position of the samurai tcase at all.
      Nevermind, just realized you are running a W56. I believe if you run an L series transmission, it's much shorter than a W series.
      Is your tcase regeared, or is it stock?

    seems really bouncy on the rocks what is your custom suspension like man, just like, really soft shocks up front or something? Where did you get your diesel engine?

    • @nickhurd703
      @nickhurd703  2 роки тому

      the springs and shocks are very soft. the vehicle is just super light, so it moves around quite a bit. I'm considering increasing shock and spring stiffness.

    • @nickhurd703
      @nickhurd703  2 роки тому

      It was my first time up hells gate. I super didn't want to get under the power band for the engine, so I took it with speed. it was super fun that way. I had plenty of crawling on other obstacles with lower consequence of failure

      It was difficult for me as this was a learning project. Experienced swappers could have it done in 100 hours I'd imagine. With the AAZ, there is really no electronics to worry about.

    LMFAO sorry but anyone that tows in a toy because they are worried about it breaking is PATHETIC,Ihave a 88 Suzuki samurai that's been modified and has the original engine with a cam,open header and a hug webber carburetor,2 inch lift and shackles with new shocks that extend for the lift and 2 inch spacers on wheels for extra stability,I hot rid of every extra weight and its around 1600 pounds and can hit 87 mph at 6000 feet elevation because I live in Colorado and my tires are 31inch and I can hit 87mph at over 6000 feet elevation on the highways on the western Slope...ps what I was trying to say was I know it is reliable and it will get me home every time unless engine failure!! So its basically a toy and not a "full time 4x4"

      Sounds like a fun rig you have, but your assumptions are off. We towed the samurai for two reasons. 1: My buddy and I both cruised the trails in both rigs. we wanted to ride down there together and chat for the 3 hour drive to Moab. 2: My samurai is 5.29 low geared and cruises ~55mph (though it will run 100 at redline). Combine that with no hard top, no cruise, no airbags, no doors, and not great road manners; I dont want to drive it 3 hours because I have much more safe and comfortable options. I love driving it around town and on local trails, but it is not a good option for freeway driving.
      Sober up, Stay safe, and see you on the trail :-)
