This week on What's in the Fridge, we found some meatballs, leftover white rice, and some extra veggies. But is a meatball fried rice even good?

You’re telling me an Italian fried this rice!?
See you in the big leagues.
Yes.
Ayyy I cooka da fried rice
as an italian myself, I shall
An italian? At this time of day, in this part of the country localized entirelly within your kitchen?
The fact that he is so inexplicably confused and surprised gets me everytime

I'm loving the next level saltiness on the part of Andrew in this round xD

Not next level. Properly seasoned with saltiness....
My family always used rice in meatballs as a binder instead of breadcrumbs. They're called porcupine meatballs!
Have you tried the deluxe porcupine meatballs? When you stuff it into a bell pepper and serve it with mashed potatoes?
We have a similar thing here in a Greece called giouvarlakia (pronounced ''yiouvarlakia''). Its basically the same concept but they're served with tomato sauce and fries
Similar Mexican dish as Albóndigas! 😁
How do u prep the balls?
Yeah in lebanese grape leaves we do the same thing
Dang I don't know why but seeing white in babish's beard kinda is showing how long we've had his series of binging with babish and I feel proud of watching every episode of it
same. Been here since his old kitchen days
I found the channel on the Il Timpano episode and it's been a fun ride.

This reminds me of a story I heard of some guys taking a friend out for Korean bbq but the place had closed so they went to a local Italian place instead. When they heard the friend had his heart set on Korean bbq the waiter said they could make that. Not only did they make it, he said it was the best he had ever had.

We need a joint reaction between Uncle Roger and Vincenzo's Plate

This really feels like the meals I used make when I was a single collage student. Now I make meals like this as a single office worker.
I hope you still find the time to make collages
and you gonna make them as a single grandpa :D j.k.
Funny how times change...
Andrew unedited is just pure chaotic energy and I love it lol
As someone with ADHD, it absolutely feels like how ADHD energy is typically portrayed.
throwing random leftovers into reheated rice was one of my favorite way of making lunch as a kid, so this video was extra special to me!
This is such a nice change of pace. Off the top freestyling with it. Such a chaoticly fun, hilarious and genuine vibe.
It’s so raw I love it
Okay but why is no one talking about how well he hit that high note?

Came here for this.
Brad and Babish are like two younger brothers competing to see who can pick on each other the most
-brought to you by an annoying younger brother
You can't have twio younger brothers .... one has to be the older one
@@philkowalski302 if you're the oldest all your brothers are your younger brother. But also they could mean the younger brothers from two different families who are best friends.
Its so wild seeing this side of Babish. The messing around side, i mean. Its so contrastive from the polish and pre-written speech and careful editing in a regular video and I love it.
I assume Andrew knows this and was just playing it up for the series (which I understand and adore), but Kenji has a whole section in his new book about how fried rice can be any number of wonderful things! This absolutely falls in line with that of which one of the greatest chefs of our generation approves!
As a Korean-Italian, this brings me inner peace.
since you did Italian fried rice, what about an Asian inspired Risotto or Arancini?
When my girlfriend and I were away in Iceland, we went on a really long hike and after the hike, I made dinner using Icelandic sausage, peppers, onions, rice, and pesto. I wouldn’t be surprised if this dish tasted similar to that. And let me tell you, it put us right to sleep.
Was I the only one screaming, "Rice pudding!" When he was muttering,"berries?"
with the eggs and im sure he has flour and sugar around, he could make all sorts of desserts. i wonder if hes not as well versed on sweets?
That was a wonderful behind the scenes look. Being in your crew must be an adventure
Man, I’d love to see Uncle Roger review THIS fried rice 😆
My exact thought!
This will make his mouth foam from disappointment😂
Check his channel and get ready for some amusing reactions
He did it already 🤣🤣🤣
He did and it was hilariously wonderful.
This is about the most chaotic I've ever seen Babish
The verdict is in, leg down from chair
“You know what else is oil-based? OIL!” Wise words from Uncle Roger.
The verdict is you don't get the purpose of the series
@@ineedanactualdisplayname They also don't can't tell the difference between comedy and actual hate
"what you mean...WHAT YOU MEAN-HAAAAIYYYAAAHHH"
What can I say but.... Another entertaining video by the Andrew and the gang. Thanks for the share.
You not the uncle i lookin for!
@@kreshes7381 lol
this is deeply cool! fried rice is a leftover using up technique, after all. and it was nice to see some craziness without TOO much loud or rage.
Funny enough, in some cafes where I'm from (Indonesia) we have something called basil fried rice or pesto fried rice that is exactly what you think it is. And it is hella delicious, especially topped with a fried egg, so I'm not surprised this worked out and Andrew getting absolutely confused at the fact it works is sending me cackling in the corner.
are you serious? With Balsamic vinegar in Jakarta?? Who bought that stuff?
You lie so hard bruh 🥵
Gak pernah lihat ada orang yg buat nasi goreng pake pesto.
Pasti 70K harganya
Indonesian here, never heard of that at all ...
I love how its Andrew's show and hes asking everyone else in the room what the rules are.
I feel so proud that I've been making basically this for a long time with leftovers!
Its hilarious how surprised Andrew is, even though Chefs have been saying for decades that you can make fried rice with pretty much anything!
Where was the first rice fried?
In Greece.
BOOOOO 😂😂😂😂😭😭
That’s the worst dad-joke I’ve seen and I respect it
What if you made a note that on early Halloween, you make something so gross and unhealthy that it's too scary to eat:
Regular Show- Rig Juice
Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated- Clam-entine Crystal (from Where Walks Aphrodite episode)
Steven Universe- Literally All Toppings Pizza
Green Eggs and Ham cartoon- The Ham-Egg-Edon
The Simpsons- Krusty's Munchy Mouthfuls (Highway to Well episode)
etc.
It says something about the style of this channel that it's the first place I would think to come to when I'm trying to rekindle my love of cooking. I've been working around a solanine sensitivity (meaning I can't eat tomatoes or potatoes) for _years,_ but I recently got hit with what looks like a double whammy of gluten sensitivity and lactose intolerance -- losing my ability to enjoy nearly all of my favorite comfort foods and recipes really took the fun out of cooking, and it's honestly been a struggle to even muster the energy to eat.
Thanks for doing what you do, even if I can't make the same things myself anymore.
Hey, so I have all of the same food issues you do, plus shellfish and soy! If you're in the U.S., Jovial brown rice pasta has been a lifesaver, and UDI's and Canyon Bakehouse make the best gluten free breads. You can make fake tomato sauce with beets and carrots, and you might be able to still tolerate super hard cheeses like parmesan and cheddar. I also make fake 'tomato' slices for my sandwiches by drying jarred roasted red peppers on a paper towel, and drizzling lemon juice and salt on them. Potatoes is the rough one. There's no texture like it. I have found that microwaved-steamed acorn squash is a pretty decent baked potato substitute. You also might be able to tolerate sweet potatoes as well. Don't ask me how that works, I have no idea.
@@chronicallynerdy4074 It works because sweet potatoes don't produce solanine as an insecticidal defense mechanism, unlike regular potatoes -- they're more closely related to morning glories than nightshade.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure to keep them in mind once I've got the funds free to experiment. I've tried before, especially with tomato-free marinara, but the flavor's impossible to replicate from the attempts I've made -- I can get the texture right, but it's pointless if I have to completely rework the flavor profile of the dishes.
I had "everything is cake" flashbacks with those meatballs. Everything is rice!
Make a note on any day in November, you make a huge buffet of food since that's what Thanksgiving is all about:
Coraline- Other Mother's Dinner
Shrek 2- Royal Dinner
The Looney Tunes Show- All of Porky's Buttered Foods
The chaos of these Babish videos is something that I absolutely adore.
8:32 did not expect a Paul Harvey reference in a Babish video, that is a new one!
I'm in Italy and this is not italian fried rice haha
Always love watching Andrew slowly losing his mind, 12/10
its legit really cool that you guys left in the "brainstorming" phase of this vid at the beginning
I've done this with Sweet and Sour Meatballs. We usually eat them with rice anyways, so the next day, I made fried rice with them.
Sweet and Sour Meatballs consist of...
Welch's Grape jelly, Salsa and ketchup.
That seems disgusting but also delicious
If you ever feel like experimenting use guava preservative it is literally the best thing ever.
@@griiindlepsn6084 guava salsa with roasted banana peppers is amazing
@@flyingdolphin1015 it's an old recipe. Apparently, Guy Fereri loves it
I look forward to watching this again on Uncle Roger's channel!
My exact thought when I saw the title.
Andrew's "WOAH" at Brad's "at least somebody is" was very dad like
i love how scared he gets of the moldy lemon
I appreciate showing the "science project" lemon.
This episode is pure chaotic fun & I'm definitely here for it🤩
Cajun fried rice works too, just tried that the other day: leftover andouille sausage and trinity.
That looks delicious, and seemingly was quite a workout to make.
I absolutely love that I was trying to figure out what to do with leftover white rice and Italian sausage when this video popped up.
I really hope this will be an ongoing series, because half of my home cooking consists of YOLOing the food like this. One does not always have the time to do some real cooking with two kids around...
What if you make a note to bake the Halloween Cake from OK KO Let's Be Heroes episode, "Monster Party"
"I refuse to believe this worked"
So does all of Italy
Whole Celery, 2 carrots, onion, riceball/meatball, garlic, juice o anchovies, basil+pinenuts+oil=pesto, wok, balsamic vinegar, parsley, lemon, salt
Mmmm chovy juice
"Leftovers are just older food than normal food" - Confucius, I think.
dude is full chaos and I'm here for it
Could a berry-bar or berry tart been an option instead of lemon based bar or tart?
Watch uncle roger for comedy weejo.
Not spreading more hate to people (except Jamie and Rachel)
I mean this is "not" even traditional fried rice and just an experimental attempt bro from his series.
The salt and unhinged nature of this feels like a Botched episode.
Which means it's perfect.
Awesome audible with the pesto. You should do a legit book version with arborio rice.
The passion of the anger 😂😂
My Asian friend watched this and got depression.
Never thought it would work but honestly now I want to try this-
the whole team at BCU is just so wholesome and funny
Maybe on any day in November, you (or Alvin) make a banquet of food:
The Fairly Oddparents- Cupid's Scavenger Hunt Breakfast Buffet
Garfield and Friends- Grandma Arbuckle's Thanksgiving Foods
Pokemon- Honey Banquet from, "Danger Sweet as Honey", episode
I would want the garfield one.
10:45 Love the full circle. My first thought when you said acid
Even a relatively neat kitchen there's a lot of chaos. Loved the bear for the choas, love this episode for the chaos. Please more of these!
Love this format. Keep up the great work!
I always personally wondered if you could use leftover pasta instead of rice and go full italian, is that a thing?
Well, plenty of stir fried noodle dishes exist already, so...I'd have to guess yes!
Orzo would probably work perfectly
9:27 he kinda sounds like Matt from Wii Sports in the ball dodge training game
Fully unhinged and, as always, we are here for it.
This video is actually aimed at getting both Uncle Roger and Vincenzo's Plate to do a reaction collab.
Uncle Roger is going to have a field day with this one.
Looking forward to it
Why? It's not pretending to be an Asian fried race by any jump of the imagination
The way he dropped the bowl into the veggies as they were cooking 🤣
The first four minutes of this is exactly how I imagine Bob Belcher coming up with the burger of the day
Day 2 of asking babish to do the spicy churros from Victor and Valentino.
Hasn't he already done churros??
@@nicks1063 he did the Churrons. I'm talking abt the spicy ones from Victor and Valentino
@@NandevaIndioMaluco Just add a little cayenne to the dough and to the cinnamon sugar mixture you roll the churros in after you fry them.....voilá, spicy churros!!
@@nicks1063 but there could be other versions. Savory churros, pepper cream filling, dough flavours. I think it would make a really nice episode.
This is an unhinged version of Andy I didn't realize I was missing.
I really like how much fun it looks to be in that kitchen.
Andrew being jumpscared by the moldy lemon was funnier to me than it probably should have been.
Give us a “berry” episode someday.
You obviously got an itch to scratch
Since it's spooky season you should do Potatoes and Molasses from Over the Garden Wall
It’s so cool to see how babish got more and more comfortable on camera
😊
Am I the only one who sees Andrew bears a slight resemblance to Ryan Reynolds?
I just came from the uncle Roger video 😂😂
"today we're making an Italian fired rice"
"Oh, you mean like a risotto?"
"No"
When Brad mistimed the camera zoom again at 3:35 I lost it 😆
This made me laugh so hard when you wake up from a night out trying to make a random breakfast meal for your friends but most importantly yourself
I can smell uncle roger from a distance
but will it be fuyoh or haiya?
That rice looks so yummy. may I ask. If possible, can you make a spooky dish for Halloween?
Maybe out of that spooky lemon.
babish IS pretty spooky already
This is already beyond spooky
3:01 WOOOOW... That was bad XD
This show pretty much sums up my entire approach to cooking
I swear italian and chinese cuisined have a lot of similar foods
Trade links from the Middle Ages is why the Italians have pasta - direct inspiration from Chinese noodles
@@savioblanc That's just a popular myth. Italian pasta does not have its inspiration from China.
@@IndustrialMilitia well I stand corrected then. What's the origins of pasta? I'm keen to learn some new facts
Can't wait to see the Uncle Roger reaction to this one XD
In the past, I've had this similar dish as a staff meal, many times:) Does the job!
my late childhood was with this man and seeing him with grey hair made me feel like a mummy that was preserved for nearly 100 years
you know, just a couple weeks ago I was wondering where this series went
Love your work! I think I would have done a sweet baked rice pudding with the eggs, the single lemon and the Babish berries
Yummy looking foodstuffs as always.
FYI: I just received my Babish Tiny Whisk set. I look forward to using them. There are so many smaller ingredients that need whisking, but since I've only had giant whisks in the past, I've been forced to use a fork instead.
Now I can Tiny Whisk my smaller ingredients instead of forking them up. And I'll save time, too, because a whisk always does the job quicker than a fork, so I'll be able to Tiny Whisk my eggs or whatever for seconds instead of forking around with them for minutes, and that saved forking time will definitely add up.
This is the perfect idea for a series.
