In this video, I attempt to beat my personal best of ~49,000 in Ms. Hack. All gameplay shown was using real hardware both difficulty settings set to "B".

9:45 They are monsters, not ghosts. The 2600 Pac Man flicker was so bad that they called them "ghosts" to explain away the horrible flicker. But on the arcade cabinet, the instructions used the term monsters.

You say both difficulty switches are set to setting b. Is that the reason it is playing so fast?

Yeah, it's my preferred way to play Ms. Hack... :)

Are all the variations this fast?

The right difficulty switch controls the speed of Ms. Hack. In position "B", she is faster, the wafers do not slow her down. I believe that applies to all the variations.
