    You can grow it outside. I live in Ontario Canada and this plant can grow as high as your house. You can leave it out in the winter but you have to cut it down and cover it. You can uncover it in June. It's an awesome plant.

    I'm so glad I watched this. I was watering my banana plant maybe half a gallon once a week and wondering why it was doing poorly! I just ran and poured a half gallon in it after seeing this video. Its about 2 feet tall but not as leafy as yours looked in its early stages. I also moved my humidifier closer to it.

    This is great. Ive been doing this for years in Wisconsin. Friends of mine wanted them out of their yard in Texas so I grabbed a root ball, and by the time I got home, it was growing in the Bag I put in in for transport. I put mine outside during the summer, but you grow this thing to massive size in doors. I've gotten it produce twice. And I cut the stalk down to about 1 food tall and let it start over. And start over it will. If it gets too big for your house, just chop it down, and it will growq back. :)

      How long to harvest bananas

    • @vacciniumaugustifolium1420
      @vacciniumaugustifolium1420 3 роки тому +8

      @@nrrbull few species produce edible bananas, most of them are grown for their amazing foliage.
      If you need to have flower and edible banana, you'll need to find a musa acuminata (the best) or a musa Balbisiana or better : an hybrid of the two. Its also quite important to get a dwraf cultivar like ''grand nain'' ou '' double mohai''
      In pot with good care, you can expect your banana plant to flower aroud 3 years old.

    Yellow on the leaves indicates too much water. Maybe cut back to 1-1/2 to 2 gallons a day. Needs weekly fertilizer. Bananas are very hungry! Especially if you'd like to get some bananas!

    Thanks for the time spent making this video. Very informative. I have a musa growing hydroponically. I can't bring it indoors for the winter because of space. Do you know how I can winterize it till spring. Take note the the roots are dirt free from growing in nutrient solution. It's about 4ft tall and the roots are over 2ft long.

  • @anr1682
    @anr1682 8 років тому +6

    If this is a Basjoo it can resist winter temperatures down to -20° F when properly mulched.
    Start removing the new growth if this is a fruiting type. Also, remove the foliage from the bottom and you can cut the leaf in half, the ones touching the ceiling. That will help the plant. A little grooming and she should be able to be planted outside during the winter. Start acclimating the plant now before the real cold begins.

    I have one indoors in MN too but it's different. No real trunk, just canopy coming out of the pot. It's 22 years old and about the same size as yours and I only water it 1 gallon every 2-3 WEEKS! The leaves look exactly like yours but I sort of wonder if mine is something other species? I originally heard it called bird of paradise. Anyway, mine is drooping lately, still very green but droopy, not sure what the problem is.
