Ok I'm literally in awe right now. I cannot believe it grew that fast and how much water it needs!! I just bought a Dwarf Cavendish banana tree. I live in Sweden so it'll be a little experiment to see how much supplemental lighting it will need. Thanks for the video!
You can grow it outside. I live in Ontario Canada and this plant can grow as high as your house. You can leave it out in the winter but you have to cut it down and cover it. You can uncover it in June. It's an awesome plant.
This is great. Ive been doing this for years in Wisconsin. Friends of mine wanted them out of their yard in Texas so I grabbed a root ball, and by the time I got home, it was growing in the Bag I put in in for transport. I put mine outside during the summer, but you grow this thing to massive size in doors. I've gotten it produce twice. And I cut the stalk down to about 1 food tall and let it start over. And start over it will. If it gets too big for your house, just chop it down, and it will growq back. :)
I grow them outside in Florida and started with one and have about 30 a few years later. Only one of the 3-4 years did a light winter allow fruit to develop. This year I expect abundance.
I'm so glad I watched this. I was watering my banana plant maybe half a gallon once a week and wondering why it was doing poorly! I just ran and poured a half gallon in it after seeing this video. Its about 2 feet tall but not as leafy as yours looked in its early stages. I also moved my humidifier closer to it.
Banana Tree is the top in producing oxygen with its BIG GREEN LEAVES in the world ! Love this tree. I am from Bangladesh and we have more than 300 different species of Banan tree.
I just bought two cold hardy banana tree before I saw your video. I am more excited to see what happens to mine now after watching your documentary. Well done. I am on Long Island so I have to keep my plant indoors during the winter as well. Again good job on the video.
Awesome ! I have bought my first one yesterday and olanted it in my garden, but i am in zone 7b so i don't have to worry too much about protecting it in the winter.
I grew a banana tree in my room growing up in England. The problem was that after about two years it completed its life-cycle and the main part died, and it started growing again from the bottom.
@@nrrbull few species produce edible bananas, most of them are grown for their amazing foliage. If you need to have flower and edible banana, you'll need to find a musa acuminata (the best) or a musa Balbisiana or better : an hybrid of the two. Its also quite important to get a dwraf cultivar like ''grand nain'' ou '' double mohai'' In pot with good care, you can expect your banana plant to flower aroud 3 years old.
I would be curious to know what type of potting medium you grew this in? It had to be a well draining mix to consume 2 1/2-3 gallons of water daily. I know these consume lots of water.
Oh how cool is that ! I’m here because I went grocery shopping yesterday and they had bananas 🍌 trees for 8$ a foot tall I couldn’t pass it up tfs this is very cool I already have plant lights
Thanks for the time spent making this video. Very informative. I have a musa growing hydroponically. I can't bring it indoors for the winter because of space. Do you know how I can winterize it till spring. Take note the the roots are dirt free from growing in nutrient solution. It's about 4ft tall and the roots are over 2ft long.
I just planted an ornamental banana tree, (Musa zebrina), in my front flower bed, and it's about two and a half feet tall. I'm in Fort Worth Texas, and I've never tried to plant and grow anything ever. Your video was really cool, I enjoyed it.
Ah yes , but you have to educate the public, I used to run a tropical house with a huge Banana in it and it really annoyed me when visitors walk through and said banana tree. we watered ours 10 hours a day on a fast drip and had leaves 9foot long and 3 wide
My banana tree has this thing that it has a nice and healthy leaf, and then in like a day the stem that is holding the leaf goes brown and starts drooping down. What does that mean?
I have one indoors in MN too but it's different. No real trunk, just canopy coming out of the pot. It's 22 years old and about the same size as yours and I only water it 1 gallon every 2-3 WEEKS! The leaves look exactly like yours but I sort of wonder if mine is something other species? I originally heard it called bird of paradise. Anyway, mine is drooping lately, still very green but droopy, not sure what the problem is.
If this is a Basjoo it can resist winter temperatures down to -20° F when properly mulched. Start removing the new growth if this is a fruiting type. Also, remove the foliage from the bottom and you can cut the leaf in half, the ones touching the ceiling. That will help the plant. A little grooming and she should be able to be planted outside during the winter. Start acclimating the plant now before the real cold begins.
I'm amazed at the water consumption The growth rate Perfect foliage In a Minnesota basement Well done What was the grow light? This video doesn't show up on my viewing of your 58 video playlist, instead I found it via Minnesota Basjoo But I was already a subscriber Where does the Banana reside now?
My banana plant leaves get lots of water drops on them and I read that is a sign of too much water. I only water mine with a few cups of water once a week. Did yours get water droplets on the leaves with how much you watered it?
I just started to try and grow a banana tree too and I'm in nor thing MN. Mine isn't even close to the size your is and we just transplanted the offspring today (07/26/15). I am hoping mine take off soon. Did you get bananas yet from yours?
Like this video...ive been thinking about getting one as an indoor plant... wasn't sure how fast they grew... your time line gave a perfect perspective, short and informative... like it!!... thanks... Now where'd you order it? ... lol
... bet you could find a baby plant around ... and should love your environment as well ... best of luck...look in the garden centers too...local greenhouse may give you a baby plant if you just asked for one ...
if they are planted out doors in sandy soil, water at will because the plant will only take what it wants. if the soil is not sandy be careful not to cause the roots to get water logged.
Yellow on the leaves indicates too much water. Maybe cut back to 1-1/2 to 2 gallons a day. Needs weekly fertilizer. Bananas are very hungry! Especially if you'd like to get some bananas!
Can a dwarf banana revive and still grow after it has been cut in half with a sharp tool. It has grown back its leaves. But I just wanted to know if it will actually grow to its normal height???
I have two looking after a friend's o my they are getting so tall they have taking over my dinning room hurry up spring so I can get them back to my friend , but I must say I love to see them grow,
Its crazy it took that long for it to grow more Lil guys. I had mine for about 6 months and it was growing like a new Lil guy every other day. By the end when i gave up on my plant there was a total of like 12 that grew out, i regret leaving my plant and wish i still had it. I was still in high school and my moms boyfriend kept messing with it almost acting like if i knew nothing about caring for plants
What media are you planting the banana "tree" in? I see the rocks (how deep is the rock layer), but what's underneath? Do you water from the top or bottom?

How did your banana do?
Hi, do you still have your banana tree? I just got two tiny baby bananas - I am also in Sweden. Would love to hear your banana story!

I’m in Ontario to and just bought one for kicks. You keep yours out all winter ? How do you cover it ?
@@jumbome7420 I was thinking the same thing. I just bought one from Garden Gallery two days ago. In Barrie Ontario.
How do you cover it? May buy one. Also how many years till you see bananas?
Wow that's amazing she grew really big and tall and strong wow what a beautiful plant
I bought a 3 ft plant a week ago and it's already produced a new leaf! They're super fast-growing

I live in Brooklyn Park, Mn....Nice experiment to try! I love plants, besides animals and fish! Thanks for the tips! Very educational.
... never knew they drank so much water ...
That is pretty amazing. Keep us posted on the progress.
This is amazing!! wow it grew so quickly! I am in Minneapolis and growing tropical palm trees this is helpful!

Wow, good on you! This is our starch in our country. I hope hope it gave you good fruit. I'm wanting to grow some, you did very well 👍

Would you mind making an update of the status of this banana? Did it died and then grew back?
I also live in central minnesota! I’m going to be growing Bismarck palms
Is it able to grow fruits?
Great job, I am lucky I live in Andrews SC, about an hour south of Myrtle Beach, and we leave our banana trees in the yard year round they do fine.
Excellent video thanks for sharing.

This is remarkable! Any updates on this banana tree? Do you still have it in your basement; Still going strong?

What kind of Fertilizer? How do you know how much water to give it.. I think I’m nit giving mine enough .. the leaves are all browning/spotting
Try Musa basjoo out in your garden with a heavy mulch
How is the plant now

It is dwarf Cavendish, I think.
Did you say 1 GALLON of water every single day?
yes=)
What's your soil to be able to give that much? I'm in Montreal, so similar weather, and my banana's get maybe 1 cup of water a month!
Dairy State Vegan
No...he said 3 GALLONS of water a day! 😊
Prego mamma's get VERY thirsty! 😆
Are you sure that seems like too much water
J.L. A. They take in water like crazy. I give mine less, around 5 gallons a week.
Can you link the site you got it from? Thank you
I noticed your vaccum cleaner always stayed at the exact spot in your every month pictures in basement! The conch changed color briefly.
Wonderful video. Great share. Thanks.
Also what kind of soil did you use
did you get any bananas?
I probably couldn't grow tall enough for it to fruit.
Well u won’t be able to eat the banana cus do u want to eat something made of seeds?
@@mrpuppy1652 something made of seeds?
@@nrrbull He means it's probably an unmodified banana, so it's covered in seeds in the fruit, unlike the modified ones you get in a store.
4 years ago but I think it would need pollination to fruit 🍌

Do you water the plant everyday in winter
Did you really give it that much water.......... daily. Dosent matter its beautiful
leaves are great for cooking or as biodegradable plate, the trunk , flowers and of course fruits are edible,

Hi what size pot do you have it in
Where did you buy your tree from?
What fertilizer do you use ?
What soil did you use and do you know what kind of banana it is?
A gallon for a day doesn't make white mold in the pot ?
Any fruits yet?
They for looks or do they actually harvest bananas
why not move it outside insummer?
Probably too heavy and too big to move. Plus if it grows too much outside they might not be able to get it back inside lol
Hi, do you think ensete glaucum and ensete ventricosum can grow indoors like yours?
what type of fertilizer can i use for banana tree pup thats only couple inches high doesnt seem to be growing
I bought the Musa Acuminata Dwarf Cavendish? Is that what this is in the video?
do you really give it a gallon of water per day? no signs of root rot?
+Collin Smith yep and no rot
Just brought one I'm so excited
how did you know how much water it needed? I'm a novice gardener willing to learn :)

When grown outside in cooler climates, the whole plant is cut to ground level for winterization every year. It pops right back up the next year.

They wouldn't be edible; Basjoo bananas are bitter, dry, and full of seeds.
Is it still growing today? Did you move it outside?
Hi, what sort of Bananas is it , can you mention the name of it's kind.
I just ordered one of these. Thank god I have a really high ceiling! What type of fertilizer did u use?

You can use the banana leaves as plates to eat in. Earth friendly instead of using paper or plastic plates
has it produce any fruit
How do you drain all that water 🤨
I am just starting out. I bought an $9 CAD plant from the local Home Depot. I am just about to transplant it into a 5 gallon food grade bucket.

those little stems coming off actually can produce fruit and eventually bananas
