  • The Rural Life Living Museum is a open air museum which contains many relics of the past which have been restored to working order by hard working volunteers and members. The Museum is set in over 10 acres of woodlands with building, barns and workshops spread around the site. There is a 2ft Narrow Gauge Railway which runs around the museum which adds to the brilliant atmosphere of the museum.
Steam at Work weekend featured many visiting steam engines which were driving around the museum while it was operating. My video contains the steam vehicles which includes Foden Steam Wagon, Aveling Porter Steam Roller, 4.5 Inch Burrell Traction Engine, 3 Inch Suffolk Punch Dredging Tractor and many more. I also cover the Timber yard which features log sawing, the road making demonstration which crushes up bricks with a rock crusher and my favorite a 3 Inch Suffolk Punch in action pulling a 4.5 Inch Burrell and some logs. Many Thanks to all volunteers and members of the Rural Life and to all of the exhibitors for putting on a good show.

I know it's a bit late but I attended this event and I was the 14 year old driving the black 4" foster traction engine. I saved this video as your channel is one of the only ones I have found that show small local shows ind I thought that was quite cool. Keep up the great content

Hi Zack what a lovely engine you drive it definitely caught my attention being a Foster. You see too many burrells and it's always nice to see something different. You are definitely one luck lad looks like you had a good weekend.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video I like doing the smaller shows people are more friendly and you get a good variety of everything. bigger channels don't really cover the event as a whole or focus on a bigger event like dorset which is covered by hundreds of people. I had not been to the rural life museum in years but it was a good event which I will be going back to this year. Another good weekend is Amberley Miniature steam weekend you have probably heard of it. It's good for both the public and exhibitors there is just something different with the miniatures driving around on the roads a brilliant atmosphere. Its probably one of the best shows for miniatures in the south and I would probably say the UK personally. Sadly this is on the same weekend as the rural life event but I will probably end up doing a day at each. Hope to see you around when the shows start up keep up the good work on the engine. Thanks for your appreciation, Sam

    Thanks for the video.
I used to attend the Museum when they had the toy and model steam event day. Will this be run again?

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Sadly I'm not sure if the toy and model steam even will be on again as it has not been on since 2019 probably due to covid. At the start of the year when I was looking for shows to go to there was nothing listed on their events page for a model steam up. Hopefully the museum starts it up again for next year as I have not been to it since the early 2000s. It would be great to see your o gauge layout there if it's on in the future.
