One of the problems with comparing yourself with someone else is some of those really successful people are blessed with a lot of talent. You may not have that talent so it pointless comparing. What you can do is find out what your talent is and develop it.

Hi there, as a millennial who was born here, here's what I feel about my country:
    1) the country felt more like a "humble nation and home" til the 2000s and that's when we started losing our own identity as a nation when we wanted to transform ourself to a global hub.
    2) people here are very Conservative despite how we speak/dress. Racism and homophobia still exists. Sometimes subtle, sometimes blatantly.
    3) Singaporeans have become very materialistic especially in the last two decades. The Singaporean dream just never seems to come true as people here are never content. They just want more.
4)People here live in such a sheltered, controlled environment that they eventually start living in their own bubble. It develops a lifestyle that can pretty much only survive within singapore.
    5) the competitiveness within us has gone from a healthy competition to "do anything to one up the other" also known as " makan(eat) others, don't kenah makan (get eaten). This has led to a dip is graciousness in our society. As you mentioned, being content is so difficult when Singaporeans are always chasing after the "next leap".
This are just my personal opinion and I'm sorry if this offends anyone. I am writing this from my heart as I feel that the country I grew up in has just changed to a soulless metropolis. 🥺

Brother...i thoroughly agree with all your points as i lived through the experiences you went and felt throughout. Exactly the same thoughts and sentiments....i really miss the old Singapore before year 2000... those days are long gone...and now our nation is just souless and lost the true identify of what it means to be a Singaporean. It is really sad...

Hey bro, great video about the struggles you've faced in SG.
Firstly, there's nothing wrong with always being early. I personally like being early than punctual because if you try to be punctual, chances are, you'll end up late. And I don't like being late.
When it comes to being content bro, I truly believe that if you are able to be independent, and support yourself financially, doing what you're passionate about, you don't have to be concerned with what others are doing. Everybody's journey in life is different. What can be seen as a success to someone might be very different for others.
I used to feel the way you feel man. I can relate (even as a Singaporean myself). But once I accepted that everybody progresses at their own pace and speed, I became okay with my own progress.
Keep it up! You're doing great!

I've always been ponctual and almost never late or early (I both hate losing my time or making people lose their time so...). It's just about training to estimate precisely how much time it will take you to prepare AND go from A to B. Add 5 to 10 minutes to that estimation and you'll always be ponctual lol

The contentment part hits hard. It’s true that being contented is hard in sg. It always seems like everyone is better. But there is always the other side of the story. No one will flaunt the sad part of their lives. We tend to imagine or create this image that other ppl live better than us.

And as for struggles, we all have different struggles and that adds to the spice of life. And lastly, while it's true that Singapore was under Japan rule during the war, this is the mistakes of the past, and the world have all moved forward, do not take the sad comments to heart.

I think it depends more on ones’ upbringing and values. But for a country that’s always rushing, I do agree that being late is a pretty prevalent issue in Singapore.

You might notice that Singapore Chinese wedding dinners never start on time. That's because coming early or on time implies you are anxious or desperate to eat so people come late. It might explain some of the tardiness ... an unconscious need to appear not anxious or desperate for whatever is on the table - whether food or a deal.

For an Indian like me Singapore is still by far one of the best countries with good life. life in India is much harder to the point that nobody even cares about petty problems or (in their point of view) small things like being on time or delivering good customer service or keeping things clean, safe and tidy. All we have to suffer is garbage politicians doing rallies and destroying the people's minds and the growth of this country because of selfish reasons. Singapore is also a very social and friendly place where everybody speaks English and its easy to communicate. People are also simple and direct minded compared to many other countries so it is easy to get to them for things like communication or implying things. I really hope someday my country changes and becomes more livable but right now is really not the time. Anyway thanks for the vlog :D !

I am a Singaporean and it still angers mean about the poor service standard in this country. I remember during Lee Kuan Yew era as PM, Singapore service standard was 1st class world standard. Now, it is extremely rare due to the fact that the whole dynamic of running this country has changed quite drastically. Singapore in LKY's era has became Singapore Inc now, from economic sense, labour became cheap which affect their sense of pride in serving which resulted in having attitude problems towards the customers. Moreover, some of the bosses didn't care, about customer's feelings, with the view that as long as their workers are cheap and that matters to them. There were times I get shocked when the staffs simply ignored me when I approached them for help or told me that I have option to shop elswhere if i wasn't unhappy.
It happened recently when I was at bugis, near the temple, looking for pillow case and a PRC lady staff told me that I can't choose the design I was looking for, because she claims that it makes her life difficult for having to re-arrange her display item. When you insisted on wanting the design you found, she waved you away. This specific area of unhappiness, is pretty consistent across the island, as opposed to other 6 areas mentioned.

Being content. I think there is happy medium between being content and striving for something important. I personally struggle with that no matter where I am because I think the search for that happy medium is an internal thing (certainly influenced by external factors too). I think it's a matter of first clarifying what defines personal contentment; figuring out a major life goal to strive for; then and only then, execute a plan so that both co-exist in your life in order to enrich it. In that case, one would ideally be content and feel alive, regardless of where one lives or who you are with. At least, that is my working plan.

Ghib-san, everyone would kill to be a successful youtuber! Without having to work a 9-5 job, being your own boss is what most singaporeans and me would be envious of 🙂🙂 don't say that you can't be proud of yourself because being an entertainer like you brings endless of smiles and joy to people. You've got no idea how many days of people you've brighten up, especially during the pandemic and circuit breaker.. so don't ponder over it and just enjoy what you do because you're doing great! We will be here to stay and watch you grow!

It is always tough for transnational marriage couple. My husband stayed in SG after we got married . When we have kids I have better reason to let them grown up study here. But I know he is bored here sometime in SG especially when more & more of his friends went back Aussie for good. I know his stay in SG is not totally because of me. If this is not a nice place I doubt he can stay for so many years (almost 20 over years). I guess if it is not because of COVID you will not be so emo & make this video. Don’t worry, when this pandemic over and u can freely travel again, u should feel better again.

I am sure it is something that we hope it will not happen again and we can all live in a peaceful and harmonious way. What you do in your content creation and vlog have certainly bring Singaporeans and Japanese closer and understand each other a little more. Thanks you and definitely looking forward to many more creation of yours.

Honestly, the late thing is not exactly fun for locals as well. I find that it happens often because of the following reasons: because the person with authority is also always late, the person being late is a huge senior in terms of age, the person being late is just so unrefined that they wouldn't understand but you need something from them & need to get things done that you bear with it.

Thanks for sharing your struggles. On your last struggle, you have to stop comparing yourself to others and decide what would make your life meaningful. Hope you’ll find your answer.
By the way, I’m also very strict with time discipline and expect the same from others at work, so not being punctual is not quite a norm especially in the working environment.

Maybe I used to work in an aviation industry, the people I worked with are all very punctual, was a little sad to hear that, as I feel being punctual is a form of showing a good up bringing. Many younger generation didn’t like those practice and have been trying to change it.

I think that struggle 8 is a great point of tension that we should all have. Having a desire to grow and achieve more doesn't equate to being discontented. We can be perfectly content with where we are, but we should also have a continuous desire to enlarge our capacity and see where that can take us. The key is to be grateful and enjoy at each point, but to never put a ceiling that will limit your potential.
