Thank you both so much for sharing your skills with us struggling, frustrated artists. I don't usually subscribe to anything but I subscribed to your channel based on this video alone. Best wishes to you both. Greetings from Scotland. Keep healthy, guys. 👍

Again, as always, another great drawing exercise from you two LA's..........I like the short intro on drawing landscape elements and then stitching them together into a complete landscape using a photograph as the subject, great lesson. I like the techniques you use for ground texturing to emphasize different slopes (like road edges), changes in roadway size to emphasize distance and perspective and changes in grade and different types of field and tree vegetation, very good. Nice work guys, delivered with humor, thanks guys.

That is what I wanted to know to get better in observing and which things are important.
When I went to Iceland 4 (or 5?!) years ago the landscape was so beautiful, I did not just want a picture of it. I wanted something long lasting which can last longer in my mind to keep the memory of this beautiful landscape and the trip up.
Now I want to practice so next time I am going to travel there, I am prepared how to draw, look and analyze a lovely scenery.

Thanks, it’s very useful and to the point. Personally I have problems with getting objects done in good relationship to each other while sketching,as well as deciding on what to draw and what to leave out. In the end I didn’t get what I wanted in the drawing but have to make “compromises “and the fun is off. I guess I lack sufficient , regular training in drawing and looking- gouging. Do you know some shortcuts, or should I just go and do the work. I’m not lazy but need to work every day to support myself.

I would like to say thank you for the great video! I'm also a landscape/background artist as well. Considering that I'm not a certifited art student, I still have a good knowledge in making perspective. I'm also a self taught person when it came down to drawing artificial and organic/natural elements in landscape. The perspective in lighting still needs a bit practice. But when it comes to drawing landscapes, I already know the fundamentals. If you can kindly go to my instagram page @makoto.sekai09_arts and seeing few of my landscape drawings I would like criticisms and comments. I do remember that Alphonso Dunn and your channel inspired me to draw landscapes and backgrounds.

Hey Ryan! Curious why you think so. What is in your opinion a simpler way to draw landscapes?

My God, you two babies are so basic...for Gods sake people just go out observe and start...you don’t need these two babies

Hey Gary! What would your tip be for people who are starting to draw landscapes? Would appreciate your view!

Linescapes yes, well just to explain I’m a trained artist Dip. Art, illustration, 1964, RMIT, MELBOURNE AU.
35 year qualified art teacher (retired).
And to draw landscapes you simply go out and observe then take your pen, pencil, brush or whatever and begin to make marks on the surface you have chosen to use. You don’t need to make these simple shapes suggested by these two presenters ...how do you think Van Gogh, Constable and Turner began???...it’s observation and recording in your own natural way, how do you think we got Picasso and Matisse ?
it simply becomes your method of recording, its important if you want to be a true artist to do it your way, what’s in front of you and what you do with it. We are all unique we all have our own way of expressing ourselves,
The bottom line is...aim to be original.

      Hey Gary,
thanks for sharing these insights! We would definitely agree with you on the point of observation and develping your own style.
Our video was primarily aimed at architects, who need to “read” and understand space. Pur methods help them grasp a landscape quickly and effectively. Thier sketches are not necessary artworks, but rather recordings of thoughts and ideas.
Although we believe that this method can help encourage anyone to start drawing landscapes.
Hope this clarifies it a bit!

I do appreciate the essentially baby mode landscape tutorial that allows a nice easy first step to get my footing in it and evolve it in any direction I wish.

So helpful. I love how they break the process down for you. So many tutorials tell you how to draw rocks - few of them tell you how to put it all together. That’s what I’m struggling with! Thanks for this!
Another thing I’ve been having trouble with that I hope you might have made a video on….
Drawing people that are far away!
Everyone tells you to “draw big” and the tutorials on drawing people are so detailed…but when I draw a landscape, I need to be able to draw people at varying distances with varying levels of detail.
So far, I’ve figured out that I need to draw silhouettes instead of body segments, and use values to show form instead of lines…but now none of my “far away figures” are distinctive - they all look the same. That’s a problem if I want to have someone specific in the mid ground.
