    Thank you for all your doing! Our old buildings need to be restored the beauty and architecture is amazing can't wait to see it finished. I live in Ohio, but may have to come to Texas just to see The Baker!

    The group doing the proposed work to open it back to a resort hotel/spa have done at least 3 financial studies on the area, plus countless other inspections to gather info on cost versus income potential. Every one of the studies have come back positive. These guys know what they are doing and have done it before.

      NOTHING!!!
      can't have been that much of a goer eh!!
      Will never be restored, would take about 50 years to just break even.

    I grew up in MW and enjoyed the Baker along with it's Brazos Club & swimming pool many times. Going to Sunday lunch after church during the '50s was living in "high cotton" for us. High School graduation party was in that top floor Ballroom 1968. Commentary about where "the guy sat to watch the crowd" actually refers to the bandstand. Thanks for fascinating look at the tower interior, including elevator motors. Very much look forward to staying there one of these days.

      Neat! They are supposed to be restoring an old hotel in Tampa called The Floridan in a similar fashion. Its restoration seems to get all gummed up from time to time though. I am not sure that they ever finished it.

    To Kevin Pruitt, thanks so much for the beautiful clip of the interior of the Baker. She may be a little faded & much need of repair...but her charm is a sparkling as ever. I, too, grew up in MW & my dad's photo shop was across the street. I visited the Baker almost daily back then, eating lunch in the sandwich shop, going to the bowling alley in the basement with my dad & even riding the elevator to the top & back for fun as all the staff knew me,

    my grandmother and her 2 sisters (in their 90's now) used to tell me stories about staying at the Baker and I grew up in MW so this is exciting!! My family and I are definitely going to stay there whenever it is finally ready. It is such a great idea considering this day and age seems to be all about health and wellness and I hope they bring it back as what it was all about in the beginning with the famed mineral water and it's mysterious healing and wellness capabilities... KUDOS!!!!

    Amazing!! I have only seen the outside and plan on going back soon (I live in Euless) to take more pictures. I would love to see the inside, it is just so sad to see the damage that has been caused by time and vandals. I am in the hospitality industry and love the history behind old hotels. I really hope that she can be salvaged after so many years of neglect.

    We lived in Mineral Wells but I was born in Ft. Worth, in 1968. My mom loved Mineral Wells. I have no memory of it because we moved to Louisiana in 1972. I've always been facinated with the Baker and wanted to go there. It would be really cool if they restored it.

    First, get all the roofs and the windows and exterior areas sealed up. As seen on "The Proper People" channel video, there is some serious water entering from above and flowing down through the floors of the building.
    Yeah, Texans can pull this off!

      The symbol the Nazis called the swastica is very old. It was used by ancient people in Tibet. And it is a design found in Hopi American Indian art. It represented simply the wheel of time (eternity).
      The hotel was built in the 1920s, long before the Nazis tried to co-opt it.

    Hi, I see several ITC spirit manifestations in the video - for instance the two figures manifesting to the left at 2:14. Also at 4:43 a male and a female are manifesting on the wall.
    Instrumental Trans-dimensional Communication, a well-described paranormal phenomenon. Not negative as long as we respect the old ancestors, those who came before us. And remember, the Internet is a dimension in itself.
    I also have caught EVP in Danish language, audible clearly at 0.5x video speed 6:35 'I Danmark, der bor en Völve' ('In Denmark lives an Asatru shaman').
    Thank you from Asatru shaman The Völve

    It is an amazing building with a rich history, and I really hope to be able to stay there one day, but I too have doubts about it being economically viable.
    Maybe retirement condos like Trinity Terrace in Ft Worth, but I just can't imagine what could be done to sustainably draw enough business to be profitable.

  • @jaybo2099
    @jaybo2099 13 років тому +3

    @ashareetip Not weird at all. First off, the swastika you see is not in the traditional sense of a "Nazi" swastika. The Nazi swastika has it's arms bent facing toward the right. The one at the Baker is facing to the left. The symbol has been around for thousands of years in many different cultures. The Nazi's adopted the symbol and forever corrupted it's use. At the time the Baker Hotel was built, the symbol was viewed by many people as a good luck charm.

  • @thornie123
    @thornie123 6 років тому +2

    I've been in here before, a few years back. It was sad to see such a beautiful building in such a state. That Swastika tile in Bakers bathroom I found odd, just the general Germanic style to his room in general. The Bavarian art work on the ceiling, the woodwork. The basement I almost got lost in, now they have bars up on the opening. And what is that little door in the closet? Was it a secret booze cabinet?

    • @mbvizer
      @mbvizer 4 роки тому

      May not be Nazi Swastika at all - rotation is wrong way. Lots of other cultures have used similar symbols.

    I lived in mineral wells in 1966.I lived the road going to palo pinto.It was a small three room hose,a plain jane looking house.The house was and i imagine is still haunted,or where the house stood,there should be some paranormal activity there.I do not believe that if the house was torn down or not,but the land where it sat,would still be active.

      @@willythegman5509 I wasn't being sarcastic. More shaken than anything, but I thought at first it may be but there was something off on it. That's why I asked. It's going the wrong direction--though even the shape we're most familiar with has similar forms in other religions and cultures, none representing the evil we associate with it being a Nazi symbol. I just couldn't believe that it was the Nazi symbol. I think my parents would have been aware if Mr. Baker was a Nazi sympathizer since Dad was stationed at Camp Wolters in Mineral (referred to as Venereal) Wells by some of the military I guess. They certainly wouldn't have gone there after they got married for their honeymoon. I sent the link and the frame location to my brother who hadn't recalled the story of them being married there, but he pointed out that it was "rotating' counter clockwise, not clockwise like a Nazi swastika would.

    As much as I love this old building, I don't see it ever being restored. Current efforts are too little, too late. Decades of deferred exterior maintenance have turned the structure into a 14-story, indoor waterfall, and thus a mold trap (see more recent videos posted by various "explorers".) Asbestos abatement may also be a major expense, one that has doomed many otherwise worthy restoration efforts. Add to that the expense of bringing antiquated electrical and mechanical systems up to current code for human occupancy. The Baker also suffers due to the non-sequitur of being so opulent a structure in such modest surroundings. It amazes me that it was economically viable for as long as it was.

    SOMEONE SHOULD PUT TOGETHER GUIDED WALK-THRUs OF THE BAKER HOTEL, SOMEONE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF ITS HISTORY, COMPLETE WITH GHOST STORIES, NOTED CELEBRITIES WHO VISITED, ETC. THAT SOMEONE SHOULD POINT OUT ITS ORIGIN AND STORY COMPLETE TO THE VERY END. THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PLACE. MONEY COULD BE MADE IN THE WHOLE TOWN JUST FOR THE PUBLIC TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO SEE IT. YES, IT NEEDS SOME TIDYING UP, BUT MAYBE THE LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY COULD HELP DO THAT OR EVEN PROBATIONERS WHO ARE GIVEN COMMUNITY SERVICE COULD EARN THEIR HOURS HELPING CLEAN UP. I THINK ANYONE WHO SEES THIS BEAUTIFUL BUILDING SITTING VACANT WOULD BE HEARTBROKEN. ALSO, IF THERE WERE GUIDED TOURS THERE MIGHT BE LESS CHANCE OF VANDALISM.

If there's something in this town that I don't know about that would draw in enough tourists to make it a profitable venture then I don't know about it. The simple fact of the matter is either the building would have to be turned into a tourist attraction itself or something VERY BIG would have to come to town if neither of those happen taking on this place for a motel would be financial suicide.

    Turning it back into just a motel won't make sense. To be honest there really isn't anything in this town that warrants a stay in a place like that at all.
    IMO it's only hope is to be turned into a casino of some kind. I know they talked about tearing it down years ago but from what I heard it's too sturdy and they would have to destroy many of the surrounding buildings in the process. But that's just what I heard.

    all this talk about a casino is bull crap.. casinos are illegal in texas, so i think its highly unlikely of that possibility. i think it would be neat to reopen it as a hotel, or maybe even make it into apartment homes.

    Here we are in 2024. The building may have windows but it is merely a shell with every floor except the first three totally ruined with no heating water Our sewage pipes operating. Total waste of money. I predict it will be imploded within five years.
