Sleep apnea is one of the research projects I'm working with. If not treated it will lead to other severe health issues and even death. I'm so glad he got the test done and a CPAP.
Got my Cpap while in college. Always had issues sleeping growing up and it definitely affected my ability to focus and retain information. The exact moment I woke up from my overnight test, I knew it was a game changer. So stoked for you both! I highly recommend looking into getting a Cpap cleaner for maintenance as it can be a bit more convenient to ensure your equipment is all good.
Same Kanai! For me, I always thought my junk sleep was something that couldn't be fixed. Also, I never realized how bad my sleep was and that one could get better rest. Once I used the cpap machine at my overnight sleep test it was game changing! I woke up feeling so energized, clearer thoughts, focused on my tasks, and just motivated to get stuff done. Whereas before, I would just feel groggy and not as motivated. But thank you for your testimony, I will def look into a cpap cleaner!
Glad you guys got help. I had my husband get tested bc just like you guys he would snore and stop breathing in his sleep. He now has a cpap and get better sleep now . Not only getting good rest but the dr also said that sleep apnea is also hard on your heart. Bc the heart is working extra hard trying to get oxygen throughout the body . Getting enough sleep is so vital to All areas of your life.
Absolutely right! I’m stoked I can bring awareness about sleep apnea in a way that gets people talking. When my dr spoke about increased chances of cardiac arrest and stuff I understood how serious it is. I’m getting my cpap machine soon!
Mahalo for talking about a serious medical issue.. So many of us never knew we have been dealing with this for many years and how many ways it affects us. Especially with blood pressure and heart related issues.. Keep up with the always nteresting and fun posts..you guys are the best !!! laughing and joking with your Ohana is the best blessing ever..
Exactly! I’m much younger get than my dad and the fact that I have moderate to severe sleep apnea is nuts. But after using the machine once, it opened my eyes on how much good sleep I’m missing out on. Really excited to get my machine!
I have the same mask he wore during the test. My parent recorded my as a baby snoring. I’m 59 years old and they didn’t know about sleep apnea. I’ve been using the machine for 20+ years. My pressure is 17, they told me that’s crazy high. I order my stuff from Direct Home Medical, prices are cheaper than going through my insurance. I tried the nasal, but it didn’t seal very good for me. When I sleep 8-10 with the machine, the next day I’m up 20 hours easy. Good for your health!
The relationship between you and your father is too funny. Kinda reminds me of my and my dads relationship, especially when we up mauka hunting. We sit down talk stories and crank each other with laughs when we pau for the day. We also get sleep apnea as well, so I know the feeling. Just found your page after watching the podcast with Tumua. Mahalo's for the laughs, bradah 🤙
Truthfully, my number was 92. I use it every day. It doesn't matter what time of the day. I put on my mask, my body says night night. I go sleep soon after. It's like my knock-out pill. I checked because my friend caught my falling asleep on his couch, and he said I sounded like one bear. Unfortunately, I got Central sleep apnea. It's when the brain says eh, you get plenty air, so you no need take a breath." It's spooky. Just about all my friends are on the cpap.

Listen too or Read the book Breathe: The new science of a lost art by James Nestor. Breathe explores how the human species has lost the ability to breathe properly over the past several hundred thousand years and is now suffering from a laundry list of maladies - snoring, sleep apnea, asthma, autoimmune disease - because of it. James Nestor has traveled the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it..or you can check out his podcast episode with Lewis howes
I have that book from a friend and just started reading it. The statistics about how much your chance of cardiac arrest / problems increase by breathing through your mouth is gnarlyyyyyy. I can't get over how important it is to get good rest and proper breathing habits. Sounds silly, but it's so important.
I never even thought I stop breathing that much. They said get 3 stages of sleep, stage 3 is deep sleep. I was stuck on stage 1. Whole time i thought sleeping sleeping but when they woke me up for put the bipap on, I could've swore I slept for 15 min not knowing 4 hours went by. I small kine getting used to sleeping with it now. Jus humbug when gotta use bathroom at night lol. Other than that, I good.
