Indeed. Everyone who was lured to ITV (Mike, Eric & Ernie, Brucie) all went downhill somewhat. That was because the BBC knew how to showcase their stars in those days.
The style of the show was changed and the ratings slowly but surely went down. Also the timing was wrong. It tended to shown on a Monday or Wednesday evening at 8pm
@@seanmcgoldrick4870 I think the MU rules were ironed out so the music didn't have to be live, but the BBC and ITV maintained it for sometime... but yes, i get your point. It just exposes some poor live singing ability and invariably doesn't sound like the single at all!
@@seanmcgoldrick4870there’s stories of how big name acts would make sure the MU reps came down at just the right time. 38:32 - It was 1981, and he was still wheeling out Harold Wilson impressions. The man had retired in 1976 and Mike simply couldn't let him go. This is what really annoyed fans, his refusal to move with the times.
NOT too bad impressionist, terrible singer!! Look at singing impressionists like Joe Longthorne, then come back to Mike,... Some of his impressions are awful, such as Dame Edna.. jeez, that was miles off 😄
@@thesedreamsarefree I used to like him when I was a kid in the 70s, but as I grew older I completely went off him and thought he was terrible. But now he's died everyone's saying how bloody marvellous he was.
The late great Marti, Caine.
An amazing talent. A wonderful lady gone far to soon but so fondly remembered. ❤️.
Couldnt agree more.❤️
Agreed!
His final show for the BBC. Jumped ship to Thames the following year and his career never really recovered

Why his career never really recovered after after leavin* BBC?

@@dlamissit also didn’t help that some of his impressions, like Steptoe and Son, we’re still being wheeled out a hood decade after the show had ended
@@tombstoneharrystudios584 Spot on
Mike's Bobby Ball was poor, Edna was Jim Callaghan in drag, Danny was brilliant. Bucks Fizz hard to tell boys from girls 🙄
He was absolutely 💯 brilliant
To be fair he did a pretty good impression of bucks fuzz , he especially pulled off the blokes
Ooh er Misses
Th😊e great mike yarwood
Very talented, once saw him on stage. One of the best.
Agreed 100%. I saw him live in Bournemouth in 1978. He was phenomenal.
I saw him in Bournemouth too but I wasn’t impressed.
Why are Bucks Fizz singing to a bontempi organ? Just mime to the single, dears!
Back then you had to re record the single for shows like top of the pops etc.

Such a clever man.
The sound is knackered
His little paintbrush in one hand & a Little Didgeridon’t in the other
I spotted that too :D
The David Frost sketch was spot on. I’m thinking that Neil Shand recycled jokes he had used for Frosty years earlier!😂
RIP, so talented.
The Bucks Fizz was spot on. The rest...terrible.
To be fair he pulled of bucks fuzz pretty well....especially the blokes
Now he's doing a great impression of being a dead person.
Every impression just sounded like his own voice. And that script was appalling

Why did he persist in singing as himself? Unbelievably painful, dire "light entertainment" ...

His impressions were awful. How did he ever get on TV? It must have been dated, even back then.
This was as good as it got back then… until The Young Ones came along… and Ben Elton
@@BasherBrookesWhich has dated even worse
He had no competition, that's all, He did his best with the terrible material
