these guys were great..im from the u.s. and i just started watching there chtistmas specials ...and i love these guys ..great comedy and christmas shows...eric and ernie r.i.p
Like Eric, Ernie would suffer from poor health. He had a few strokes, and then like Eric had multiple heart attacks. Ernie died from heart failure. Both Eric and Ernie smoked a lot, which didn't help them health wise.
Eric was in no fit state to produce a proper Christmas show, so this talk show style special was what they did, as they knew the viewers wanted to see them back. Also the 11 week infamous ITV strike which blacked out the network from August to October 1979 meant if they wanted to do a proper special, they couldn't as there would have been no rehearsal time.
By 1979, Eric and Ernie had only produced two specials for Thames Television, whom they joined in 1978 after quitting the BBC after a decade of great shows on there.
Frost was completely wrong for this show but ITV probably only had Harty as an alternative to him. Nice to see Frank Haskins getting some post police work though
Problem was this was being made by Thames Television, remember the concept of the ITV network as just one channel was not there in 1979. Thames was very independent, and so hired the only host they could get, Frostie.
Awww if only we still had entertainment like this now ,life would be great again. Absolute legends. Thank you all the years of laughter. RIP

"Remember. Dignity at all times!" 🤣…God bless you, Eric and Ernie!
Eric died way too young. Even Ernie was only in his early 70’s when he died. Gone but never forgotten boys❤❤

I have about three hours of their earlier shows that I’ll upload late December or early January.
Hello! When will you be able to upload the other theatre videos? Thanks 🤩
I’m sorry but that is too funny.

@@johnking5174 True I suppose, Harty was employed by LWT and soon jumped ship to the BBC anyway
