DIY fix 2007-2013 Toyota Tundra fuel door spring using a magnet.

- The fuel door for my 2008 Tundra was loose. There is a spring inside the 2007-2013 Toyota Tundra Fuel Pocket 77305-0C050 Toyota OEM Part # 77305-0C050.
Since Toyota does not sell the spring itself, you would have to purchase the entire fuel pocket.
Locally/Retail, the replacement fuel pocket price was ~ $110 + Taxachusetts. I have seen them online in the $70 range. I took a small magnet from an old computer speaker and epoxied it to the inside of the fuel door. At one part of this video, I called it a battery(?) I also said that it is flush - might not be 100%, but it's close. I've had it on for a month now and it does the trick. My truck is over 10 years old, so I don't really care if it's not "the right fix". I also like the idea of DIY and problem solving using resources and parts that you already have. Everything used in the video was items I already had in possession. I didn't have to purchase anything that didn't already have.
I hope this video helps you and inspires you to think about solving simple problems in simple ways.

Great idea. I'm gonna do this with the fuel door on my 2016 Tundra tomorrow. Thanks for posting
My Pleasure - After 4 months, it still works fine for me.
What about now?
@@Sinz_-fl9njyes, I still have the truck 250k miles and still using the magnet.
They sell the part at Toyota and the part number is
SPRING, FUEL FILLER.
Part Number: 773660C011
Supersession(s): 77366-0C011
Bought one for $1.48, at Toyota Parts. My fuel door hinge pin is also broken and Toyota has one for $6.58. The part number is 77368-0C010 PIN, FUEL FILLER, OPE, but I'm not sure what years this part covers.
Nice idea bud. I'll be doing this as well
Worked great! Thanks!!
A new spring on amazon is $9.00

Where did you get the magnet? This is a great video. Thank you
Hi Joshua, I pulled it from an old computer speaker. It’s still working fine today. Let me know if I can help any further. - Brendan
@@brendancheever7401 that is such a good idea. Do you know roughly the diameter of that magnet? I don’t have one from a speaker so I’m lookin on Amazon to buy one. Appreciate your help
Thank you so much!
Toyota sells the spring. It's about $2. I just smeared grease on it so it won't rust out again. Here is the part # 77366-0c011
I’ve got a 2021 and that’s the first thing that I had to do to mine🤷♂️

It’s all good until the lock freezes over in harsh conditions
