I mean the GameBoy had a pretty long lifespan. Lasting from 1989 - 2003. Sadly the same can’t be said for the Game Gear. It used 6 double A batteries, only a few games were decent & the systems stopped working after 20 years.

I don't ever remember the game gear running out that often. I remember changing the Gameboy color batteries so often that my parents bought a power cord for it though.

Not gonna knock either one of those games. But the mid 80s to mid 90s was the best there ever will be. All the coolest things were being made and people still had a little bit of something called freedom. What glorious days they were.
I had both, and wouldn’t you know it whenever I came to the game gear, the batteries were for back up. And I would basically end up taking my Sega genesis power box as the main source of power. (I was driven to tears when I accidentally placed both of them in the same bag and the power cord ended up cutting a nice little scratch on my screen 😭)
The other day I whipped out my game gear and I played for like half an hour just to make sure it still works and when I was finish playing, I checked batteries and they were so freaking hot I couldn't believe it. 😭
