- Jeep Wrangler EVAP leak caused by the Gas cap. Repair it with out replacing the gas cap.
This is for gas caps that have a good o ring but the cap ratchets to easy and the cap never gets tight enough. This may work on other cars as well. Perform at your own risk.
Nice fix! In my case, it was the charcoal basket. Replaced the $25 dollar leak detection pump.
I followed your instructions and have not had an evap error since. I would get at least 1or 2 a week. Took it in for emission testing and it passed with flying colors. I can't thank you enough for sharing this. Great idea...
Fyi 2008 Jeep Wrangler
I changed purge canister, carbon canister and came across your vid, changed fuel cap and walllah! Man im not mad because i invested on my jeep but it was a 20 dollar fix all this time.
Thanks for the comment!
Going to give this a go. My Wrangler JK started throwing codes about 7 months ago. Would clear, then would pop again as soon as it rained. Replaced the gas cap ($20), but still happening.
Found the cap just doesn't seem to want to seal no matter what. The ratchet action seems to be the culprit.
Since I have a spare cap anyways, figure there's no harm in trying this out.
Thx for the demo!
I have 4 cars and been driving 37 years, all my cars never had a loose feeling cap when tighting until i bought my first jeep.. never had an evap with all my cars until jeep.. this is a jeep thing they should recall the crappy gas caps and redesign like other auto makers but won't. Maybe my 1991 Mustang cap will fit.. 😆 that always worked good and solid.
Thank You. I will try this method also. If it solves my light problem it will be good. I thank you never the less because of you took the time to film and open the cap givivg a view of the internal workings of the unit. That is what I was looking for so that if I need to employ a different method of I have a starting point.
Thank you!!
Chris Yano, did it work? I’ve tried 5 different caps.
Thanks Ron fixed mine also.2013 grand cherokee.
Thank You!!
Yeah, my cap keeps coming loose and throwing codes. Frustrating. Thank you for this.
Thank you! I am glad it helped.
I’m a tinker kind of guy, but take fuel cap apart and JB weld?? Just get a new cap. They last for years and years and wonT interfere with potential valve on cap for EVAP system functioning. There is frugal and then there is getting cheap??
This repair fixed my p0441 code
Toyota '09 4runner. The cap didn't have threads to tighten the cap. I took the cap apart to inspect it. Fixating the ratchet system would not result in improving the seal. I noticed the actual gasket design had a center channel that collapses over time and use. This reduces the overall diameter of the gasket causing the vacuum leak. A solid gasket would have a longer life and use. But that doesn't sell more gas caps.... I'm purchasing a replacement RKX replacement seal for $7 and change. About equals the cost of the epoxi I bought :-)))
Good job Chris! Thanks for sharing.
My daughters jeep had an evap leak we thought it was the gas cap but did a smoke test had a small pin hole in the fuel pump JB weld fixed it.
Brilliant idea you came up with. Spoke very clear and great video. Is that a wire connector coming off the gas cap or is that just something that keeps the cap from falling to the ground if drop. Thank you.
Thanks.. It is a cord that just makes sure your cap is not lost or left behind at the pump.
Pretty cool idea.
Was it difficult to remove the wire connector?
