Interesting and true side story for you guys, you'll dig it. I was born in Cedar Rapids, IA and my mom dated a man named Dan Rowray in high school- CR Jeff to be exact. Dan went 29-0 senior year in '70 and took State over a guy named Aaron Doolin in the final I believe (sp?). Anyhow, Dan earned a full ride to U of I but tragically broke his neck in a match and was deemed never to walk again. He beat the odds though, and learned to walk and even run and workout again. He still resides in the ia city/coralville area still today. Anyway, after he broke his neck it messed him up pretty bad, mentally as well. He missed wrestling with all his heart and soul. He would hang out in the wrestling room at u of I in the 70s and 80s all the time, just working out and talking to Gable and all the guys ( I've met Gable briefly and he's the most intense guy I've ever been around). Anyhow, we was searching for an outlet to fill the void created by not being able to wrestle, and one way he did this was through art. He mainly painted and drew and threw clay pots. Here's where it gets good- one of the things he did was draw herky hawk in a wrestling singlet on the locker room wall back in 70s maybe early 80s, and he used my mom as his figure- he'd have her get in the stance and copy her likeness. HE NEVER TOOK CREDIT FOR IT. He was too mentally ill to do so, and perhaps too modest, as well. I guess apparently another artist, a mentally stable one, took his drawing and ran with it. I've always been proud of Dan as a person and an artist and I always thought it was a shame he never got the credit he deserves for his work; its symbolic of his love for the great sport of wrestling. I'm sure there are some old timers here who will remember Dan Rowray- in another parallel universe he would've went down as one of the very best. Ask Gable himself about him- He wrestled him twice himself and obviously won, but Rowray was 5 years younger and one of the matches Gable was unable to stick him, quite an accomplishment. If any of you out there have any info on the Herky thing and or you have talked to Dan Rowray lately, let me know. He's a hard guy to find and I'd like to talk to him. Tell him his son Zach is looking for him. Rowray is biggest lover of wrestling I've ever met and also one the coolest and insightful- a true artist. Peace
What a bullshit potentially dangerous call
Ben Shiffman I can’t believe the ref didn’t call the fall in the first turn. Lol
I’ve never seen so one so flat and it not called.
People tend to forget that iowa has the most national championships in wrestling by a very very large margin
Oklahoma state 34.
Many thanks for posting. Lee is so damn fun to watch, what a great wrestler and athlete he is, instant icon territory
+Zach Van Slyke You're welcome sorry about the audio at the beginning.
