I've been doing this for 3 years now .I live in Buffalo. Ny my only problem to start seeing profits is better employees but after listening to your enterviewing and highering process, and the steps on how to hire the best team will help me grow.
I recently started my own company as well. And I want to say some of your videos have been very helpful.
About hiring friends or family. Before you even tell them you have an opening ask for references without them knowing. A person is not a great worker just because he is your cousin or uncle or friend. It will be a mistake to hire them and then fire them. Relashionships change very much.

what would be some examples of things that would have to go wrong on a job for it to be a loss?
Damaging property in a big way and not having proper insurance to cover you. Or massively underbidding the job. Way more likely to have issues in commercial than residential. That's why I promote residential, at least to start. It's a lot less risky.
Not making money!
