  • Taking a look at the story of the forgotten luxury sedan from Chrysler, the 2006 Imperial concept car. This was a large, noble car that commanded authority, with killer looks, a beautiful interior, and a 5.7L V8 Hemi. It reminds you of very upscale luxury sedans like those from Rolls-Royce or Bentley, but would have cost a fraction of that, between $55,000 - $75,000. Unfortunately, the timing and costs didn't work out, leaving many to wonder, 'What If'?

      I never minded when owners would change the grill to a Bentley styled one but once I started seeing people change the actual manufacturers badge from Chrysler to Bentley it started to annoy me. Lol It's designed to look more like a Benz E-Class from the the early 90's not a Bentley Flying Spurr... but posers will be posers.. I saw a Mercedes-Benz SLK driving the other day and the guy had rebadged it to SL65 AMG, it took me a moment to figure out why the proportion looked all off till I got next to him and realised it was an SLK.

    They should have made this car. Maybe even made it its own brand like SRT or even have Imperial level trim on 300s too like Maybach/MB. It would have hurt the 300 sales a bit but it would have a different market. Family/Touring market vs The Imperial would have strictly been a luxury coach. The Imperial would have been everywhere from Concourse de Elegance to every Rap video and it would have taken over that market that may not get a 300 over a MB. If Chrysler couldn't keep it to the standard of the concept then I understand why they scrapped it. All Or nothing

I think the Imperial would have made a fine car for Chrysler, as they needed a halo car for the brand. At the time consumers were focused on cars and not SUVs, like they are today. This car would have attracted buyers who were leaving American brands for Lexus. Fast forward to 2019, Chrysler doesn’t seem to have a future although they have a storied history. EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!! I’VE ONLY OWNED BMW’s since 1999 the ONLY American car I considered buying (other than the Corvette) was the BEAUTIFUL CONCEPT CHRYSLER IMPERIAL which was so disappointing to see this IMPERIAL ultimately never coming to production!!! GREAT VIDEO!! I HOPE CHRYSLER CHANGES ITS MIND; THAT WOULD BE LEGAL!!! 🙂

    What could have been and the moment lost because of not doing it is the best title for this video. Had Chrysler built this and made it through the recession, it would have been a halo car that could have rebuilt Chrysler in many ways. Alas, it was cut. Can you imagine what the second generation could have been with FCA at the helm? I bet it would have been on a Maserati chassis.

    This is a good looking car even today .. but i dont think they would’ve made the production version close to the concept , the interior is simply to expensive to make and the over all use of materials would’ve brought the price really up high ..

    Where Chrysler failed big & inexpensively, was failing to make a "Heisenberg Edition" 300-SRT8 model. They could've added exterior logos, stitched images on headrests, etc & offered it in BLACK, like the "Breaking Bad" car. They could've even added the 6.4 Hemi to beef things up! 😃 That show was iconic. How did they miss this 🤔 opportunity?

    I never understood why Chrysler didn't feel it was important to keep a luxury marqee line to compete with Lincoln and Cadillac or at least simply create an Imperial edition 300C with special Imperial badging and an Imperial edition only interior/performance packages?

  • @garysandiego
    @garysandiego 5 років тому

    I sure would like to own a brand new Imperial someday. But I doubt we will ever see its like again. Back in the day (as Jay Leno says ad nauseum) Imperials outclassed every other car (my opinion) but still it didn’t get sales numbers anywhere near Cadillac or Lincoln. There is a prestige factor that Chrysler was never able to build. So maybe I just have to find a clean ‘65-‘66 or ‘74-‘75 (my favorites for roadability).

    If Daimler held onto Chrysler a little while longer I am sure this would have been put into production, I blame Daimler for its demise. Daimler may have let the ME12 go into production, but as a luxury brand, Daimler focus has always been autobahn cruisers not all out super cars.

    As the owner of a late 80s Rolls Silver Spur, I would have considered this car as an addition for an everyday car and semi retire the Rolls. Yes it looks like q Phantom and what is wrong with that? Many Chrysler features however to keep it dignified and fewer people calling it a Rolls knockoff. I am today considering the Airus which fully equipped goes for around $200k

  • @andrewarmstrong7310

    There was a place in time were these cars stood. Imperial was always the top of the line on Chrysler models and that started in 1926 with the Chrysler Imperial E80 Touring model and stayed as Mass production has never really turned out a top 10 luxury car, even Rolls-Royce had to try and fail at it. I grew up in the Imperials of the 50s, 60s, and mid-70s. My dad liked the sedans and hardtops, my mom the convertibles. These cars were marked by Chrysler Corp as the car for the man on top. In 1967 they closed the exclusive Imperial plant in Detroit that had made Imperial cars since the 40s, in 1967 they dropped the exclusive Imperial D-body for the corporate C-body and in late 1968 they dropped the convertible models, in late 1973 they dropped the two-door models and in 1975 Chrysler dropped the Imperial brand until ti was rehashed for a rather crappy 1980-1983 model complete with a plastic crystal fake gold keyset.
