@@usermatisseMannarino beat Shelton fair and square. No luck involved. Shelton is a one speed unsophisticated player and Mannarino out-thought him in play.
Good tactics by Djokovic. He played at 70 per cent stroke power, taking care above all not to make mistakes and catch every ball. The winning idea was that Mannarino did not have enough power to make the point. So why take the risk? Better to play not to let your opponent score a point. That explains the severity of the score.
He's gonna win it again! My God, that first set(especially)! Unreal level, especially for a soon to be 37 y.o guy... Adrian was playing great and still got bageled. The cyborg just wouldn't miss! No matter how difficult a ball Mannarino gave him. And he gave him some tough ones. This is still prime Djokovic, it's absurd! Only Sinner can maybe challenge him seriously, but beat him? I don't see it!
Mannarino really gave Djokovic some down the line difficult balls but unlike Sinner or Alcaraz who would in that situation have finished Djokovic he has just continued rally with some soft harmless balls which enabled Djokovic to get out of it unharmed.
If Nole beats Sinner his career will still continue but if Sinner beats him and wins the tournament we may see Nole's last year...............these great champions think only and always about winning and do not digest defeats in a slam at 37 years of age especially if beating him is someone who recently beat him 2 times in 15 days ( Finals and Davis)
I just got to smile watching this because it reminds me of this tournament I played when I was younger (16) I had a 4 hour match and later in the day I had a 3 hour match winning both. I remember I ate dinner with my mum and right when we went to the hotel I fell asleep immediately when my head hit the pillow. It was like 8pm. I had to play again at 8am the next day and lost 6-0 6-1. I was so happy I won at least one game lol so when everyone clapped and he smiled winning that one game I knew exactly how he was feeling
Mannarino can have an edge against almost anyone, over IQ tennis and tactics but here, he is in front of the best IQ tennis ever, so he loses his advantage. he got nohting on Novak tough score in the end, well deserved applaud for Mannarino, the divine bald 💙🤍♥
It’s always about matchups. I think Novak is just super comfortable with Mannarino’s low bouncing strokes with very little spin. Mannarino was not clinical today, he usually plays with with extremely consistent depth. But today a lot of his shots fell shorter or sailed away. Also he doesn’t produce so much power when he is attacking, so Novak defended everything with big success. And of course Mannarino was worn out from his previous rounds. But he still put on a good fight, the score is too cruel for him.
For all of Fedal fangirls who will say that Djokovic has no serious competition (they are right in a way) let me remind you that Federer and Nadal have 1 (one) combined win at AO against Djokovic and that was 17 years ago when Djoko was 19.
Despite the score, Mannarino is no pushover, Djokovic played really, really well (he hardly looked like he had broken sweat at the end). What do you have to do to beat this guy ? play on his backhand ? attack the net ? Play the loopiest topspin shots to the baseline ? Hit the ball harder ? Make him run more ?
Nearly impossible for sure! But certainly, you need stamina and endurance and mental strength. Mannarino, with all due respect, is a very good player! But he lacks the firepower to trouble Djokovic! He plays to his strengths, baseline play.. You need real weapons! Killer forehand or backhand! Mannarino couldn't really finish points with just some more speed on his forehand or backhand.. Sinner could potentially cause some problems! He has the game, generates way more power than Manarino, etc..
