The truth is, 90% of people don’t care that much about politics. Don’t let the talk on the internet or media make you think regular folks are that divided about liking states.
I’m from NYC, but I love Cali, Texas, and all the other states. They each add something unique to this great country.

This is why many American who in the interior states drive to the coasts for their vacation rather than taking an airline. Truck towing a travel trailer is the best way to see America. "Snow Birds" is what they call people who drive down to Florida for the winter.

California beaches and Florida beaches are so different you can't call one state's beaches better. The Pacific Ocean in CA is always cold, and generally has bigger waves. In Florida the Atlantic and Gulf beaches have warm water 8 to 9 months a year, and smaller waves except when there is a storm nearby.

This is true because it’s the Pacific vs the Atlantic Ocean. Some places have trawlers that go out and collect algae and trash to prevent them from going onto the beach so there are a lot of factors that account for a beach seeming to be “clean”.

A great trip to take. And you can't swim in that ocean - very very cold. SoCal you can but still not that warm.

Actually, Sean shows us the famous bridges but doesn't show anything of Big Sur but the coastline. You can sit down in a chair that's in the river, put your feet up on the rocks. There are many state parks to go hiking, waterfalls, and Redwoods. There are beautiful beaches, some with garnet sand. It's a special place. Great for camping, if you can afford it and made reservations well in advance. As with his other Oregon/California videos, he drove too much and didn't stop enough. He did this too fast and missed a lot.

A friend and I drove up the California coast on a ten day trip. We flew to LA took a side trip to Catalina and shopped and visited museums. We drove to Santa Barbara and walked State Street and walked the beach and toured the famous mission. Our next stop was Monterrey. I loved the aquarium and the wharf. From Monterrey the drive to San Francisco was great. Sadly, I only had two days in San Francisco. Too bad Sean dodged Sonoma. 😮

I used to live over the mountain from there! That drive (PCH, aka Pacific Coast Highway 1) is absolutely gorgeous. Santa Cruz down to Big Sur was our usual drive whenever family/friends would come visit.
17 Mile Drive in Carmel is incredible.
Point Lobos just North of that spot is also amazing.
Monterey is a beautiful spot with one of the best Aquariums in the world.
Big Sur is beautiful; Pfeiffer State Park has an iconic waterfall right on the beach.
The bridge along the coast well known for Apple desktops is Bixby Bridge. As a matter of fact, most of the Apple desktops for both phone, tablet, and laptop/desktops are photos from either that area or Yosemite to the North East. California nature is perfection.
edit: yes, elephant seals stink BIG TIME.
All along the coast there are tremendous quantities of wildlife, from giant California Sea otters, to various types of seals & sea lions, and massive Great White Sharks, whales, and incredible octopus. The kelp forests are 30 meters tall, home to an abundance of sea life.

California's PCH is gorgeous, but the water is cold. If you want to swim or surf, you'll need a wet suit. Florida has so many beautiful beaches to choose from. If you want calmer waters, the gulf side is wonderful, where the waters are green and clear enough you'll see your toes when you're up to your shoulders in water. Of course, Florida also has sharks, so there's that. 😃

If anyone is ever planning on driving the PCH/Hwy 1, especially prior to a big expenditure like a vacation, they should always check the road conditions beforehand and have a backup plan. It is frequently closed due to landslides, those mostly happen in winter-spring but it can take a long time to get the road back open. It has currently been closed near Big Sur for the last year and around 2 years ago it was shut down another year.

Born in E. Los Angeles and the family moved 90 miles up the coast to Santa Barbara in 1961. The 30's vintage 2-story house they bought in 61 cost $21,000.00 . . . . today that same 100 yr old house is listed at $2,000,000.00. This is because Santa Barbara stopped giving out Water permits in 1971, (southern California has limited water resources), meaning housing development was halted and existing homes just skyrocketed in price.
That and the city council has mandated that all Powerlines & Cable/Internet wiring be placed below ground. There are no "Telephone Poles" to be seen in that town. There are no flashing or lighted signs allowed outside of a business, no billboard advertisements and no sign higher than a roofline. SB and the Montecito area have become magnets for the Rich. There is no shortage of Mansions in the area, and the scenery is World Class w/ their Beaches & Spanish style homes. You'll know this because your pocketbook will tell you. 😉

Mustangs can be V6 engines, and can get like 24-26 miles per gallon of fuel, but a top end V8 will get like 12-14...but has like 500 horse power.... from the sound of this engine, it's a V6

They used to have v-6's, but those were dropped and replaced by a 2.3 turbo.
My buddy had a 2011 v-8 get that we took on a few road trips, and we got around 25mph. That was mixed 75-80mph drive. Another buddy had the 4.0 v-6 and he would often get 30-32 mpg on his daily commute.
At slower speeds (55-65mph) it's fairly easy to hit 28mpg with a mustang GT.

"You can drive a lot of time seeing the ocean?" Yeah, hundreds of miles in California. But you prefer Texas, right?
Actually, the drive along the ocean goes most of the length of the state and, while not as famous, it's just as pretty north of San Francisco as south where Sean is. That's almost 1400 km. When Sean drove the northern part of the state he took the more inland Highway 101 but Highway 1 still runs along the coast.
"Who has better beaches, California or Florida?" Depends what you want. Florida beaches are far better for laying on the sand and swimming in the ocean except in southern California. Generally, the water is much colder off the California coast and you only find big, wide, sandy Florida-style beaches in limited parts of California. But the California beaches are much more scenic and less spoiled because of California laws that limit development along the coast.

Miami and California both have palm trees (as do other US cities including San Francisco, Phoenix, Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans, Mobile and so on) but they are different species of palm.
Note, there are ways to save money visiting California. For example, as I've said, you can do your "road trip" from San Francisco to Medocino or even Crescent City--north of San Francisco. The scenery is much the same with a number of charming small towns (and redwoods too) but it's far less well known so there are cheaper places to stay. The best known town is Mendocino. I'm not sure how much a B&B or AirBnB there would cost but during the week it may be reasonable. A bit farther along is Eureka which is a bigger town and surely would have less expensive places to stay because it's not really a tourist place (they have fishing and lumbering industry and a university).

I don't know a lot, but Mulholland Drive is notorious. Named after the man who helped bring water to the LA area, it has huge mansions, but an air of mystery. According the web, 450 people have died on "Dead Man's Curve" on the road. Maybe watch a movie or read a book about Mulholland to get some historical perspective.

    • @vidpie
      @vidpie Місяць тому

I would question that number if it's assigned to one spot in the road. I drove on a stretch of Mulholland Drive once and was passed by two sports cars. That was dangerous on such a curving road because it has two-way traffic and you couldn't see what lay ahead the next bend.
Motor Trend: "that twisty hilltop road is famed for '70s street racing (like Sunset Boulevard, it has a Dead Man's Curve)"
      Internet:
"Dead Man's Curve' is a 1964 hit song by Jan and Dean whose lyrics detail a teen street race gone awry. It reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart"
"The singer goes out for a leisurely drive one night in his Corvette Sting Ray, when a driver pulls up alongside in his Jaguar XKE... According to the song, the race starts at Sunset and Vine, traveling westbound on West Sunset Blvd., passing North La Brea Ave., North Crescent Heights Blvd., and North Doheny Dr... The North Whittier Drive curve, a nearly 90° right turn traveling west on Sunset Boulevard just past North Whittier Drive, may have been the 'dead man's curve' in the song..."
"Jan Berry, of Jan and Dean, would himself later be involved in a near-fatal incident in 1966, when he crashed his own Sting Ray into a parked truck on North Whittier Drive near (but not on) Dead Man's Curve."

The Pacific Ocean along the West Coast is clearer, but colder due to currents. The Atlantic Ocean along the East Coast is warmer due to those same currents. In general they move clockwise around the ocean, so on the West Coast you have cold water coming down from the Arctic, which takes time to warm up, and on the East Coast you have water coming up from the tropics, which is already warm and takes time to cool down.

But living where I could walk to the beach every day??? That was at uni.

I think one thing visitors to this country dont realize they haven't considered when planning long road trips is that they likely aren't used to driving for long periods of time in one session. that puts a lot more strain on your back and legs than you'd realize. sitting in one spot doesn't seem like it'd be exhausting, but try it for 5+ hours when ordinarily 20 minute car trips are long for you. it still even amazes me that it can only take a few hours to get from the east coast of the UK to the west even at its widest point. it takes 7 or 8 just to get across Iowa, and that's without stopping.

The California Coastline is 840 miles long. And yes it’s beautiful. I went to California in 1975 and went to Sequoia National Park and it was absolutely stunning. My Aunt lived in LA and we stayed there for 2 days. They had a beautiful swimming pool in the back garden that was so awesome. My mother and I went by Greyhound Bus , took us 3 days and nights to get there. After that we visited a boyfriend in the middle of California, stayed there for 2 weeks., we had a wonderful time. California is a very beautiful place to visit. This whole country is amazing. The West Coast stretches from California to Oregon to Washington State the up to Alaska. This is a beautiful country in my opinion. I live in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast. It’s very hot and humid here. Florida is about a 2 hour drive from Mississippi and the beaches are beautiful there too. I hope you can visit one day but you may not want to go back. Sending many blessings your way.

Yes, vehicles can have heated and/or air conditioning options for the seats. In warm climates like Southern California, especially with a black interior the seats can get so hot if the car has been sitting in the sun it’s unbearably hot. And in cold climates the interior of the car can be quite cold, so the heated option is great. And he drove right past a great viewpoint on Mulholland Drive.

just an FYI. The beach waters along Washington, Oregon, and Northern California are cold as the North Pacific current sends cold water from near Alaska to the south, along the coast. It gets gradually warmer the further south you go. LA and San Diego have relatively warmer water.
The east coast is the opposite. A warm current from Africa travels UP the east coast in the the Gulf Stream. It's a myth that the water is warm in Cal.
