I first saw this movie when I was in grade school in the early 1960's. I had forgotten all about it until the mid 1970's when I got to run a beautifully restored 35mm Technicolor version of it at a holiday children's matinee at a large theater in NY. Unfortunately EVERY online & DVD version of this film available now all seem to have been mastered from the same, slightly faded 16mm film copy, that's also badly spliced & scratched in a few places, especially during the "Prestige" musical number. I wish somebody could locate the original negative or a good film print and re-master it. Claude Rains is great in just about everything he ever did, but I really enjoy him in his role in this film. ( even with all the splices & scratches)

I am quite sure that I hear an uncredited Thurl Ravenscroft, in the brick maker's scene. Listen closely, for that unmistakable voice!

Ravenscroft did his share of uncredited singing but SOMEONE knew he did it! There were a lot of uncredited performers in this (I always wondered who the two comedians were who were the two Councilors - come to find out one of them was Doodles Weaver, erstwhile announcer for Spike Jones' WILLIAM TELL OVERTURE and DANCE OF THE HOURS). In addition to being Tony the Tiger and the voice of the Grinch, Ravenscroft was the contrabass Stewpot (on the soundtrack, not on film) in 1958's SOUTH PACIFIC. Not in this one, I'm afraid: go check out the cast on IMDB, including the uncredited ones.
