Hey Tony, your attention to even the little details on this video really helps. I have a red 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD very close to yours. I need to put on towing mirrors like yours for pulling my trailer. My truck has fixed side mirrors with, (no extension, no turn signal, no heater) built into the mirrors. My truck AC/Heat control unit does have a switch intended for a rear window defrost and/or mirrors, even though I do not have a rear window defrost either. I'm curious if you think these mirrors you installed would likely have working turn signals and mirror heaters with my truck? Thanks for the great video and the links to the mirrors you installed. Best regards...
@@lewchaney2138 The heat function MIGHT work, but I’m unsure if the turn signals will work because it depends on if your door switch has the pins for it or not. I would probably contact which ever brand you plan to go with and ask them directly since different manufacturers probably wire them a bit differently or have different options. I had someone else ask me the same question but I’ve been unable to confirm unfortunately.
Love the video! It’s very helpful. Hopefully putting my new mirrors on Tomorrow night. My only question is that I want the reverse lights to come on everytime I put my pickup in reverse. So where do I tap that into?
You’d have to run the wire and tap into the reverse light wiring at the tail light unless you can find a wiring schematic that shows somewhere closer to the cab to tap in like maybe the fuse box if there’s a reverse light fuse.
I’m also in MN, I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and recently when I tried to start my truck I only hear a click but the truck doesn’t start. The headlights, radio, locks etc work
Hey neighbor! 😎 Just a faint click as like a relay inside the cab? Or a more solid click like the starter itself? If it's the latter, your starter is likely out because the clicking at the starter is the solenoid engaging and trying initiate the starter itself with no response from the starter motor. Mine still works on this truck but the starter on my "01 Sierra did the same thing and crapped out on me.
@@briizcustoms9543 Probably starter then but you're more than welcome to post a video to my Tony The Truck Guy Facebook page or email to Tonythetruckguy@Gmail.com
Awesome video. What if I want to connect the blue wire to my drls and the white and gray to my reverse lights ? Can that be done through the dash too ? And does anyone have a video for that ?
I don’t have a video on that but you can definitely do it. You’d just have to use a test light to figure out which wire at the headlights switch is for DRL and tap into that, or run a wire out the the DRL socket wiring. Reverse is a bit more tricky… I think you’d have to tap into the reverse lights.
You can spam the round dome light override button by the headlight switch I think 6 times and it will disable the DRL’s. My switch must be messed up though because it wasn’t working lol.
So if we didnt wire it how u did those led will come on when in reverse or still need to wire them up to turn on ? I just wanna plug them in and thats it not tryna do any wiring
Mine already had defrost. You'd have to do some additional custom wiring if you wanted to add defrost to a truck that never had it since there's no dedicated switch for it I would think.
Did you have to do any extra wiring for your drls? I bought some yitamotor tow mirrors for my avalanche and my drls arent working so ive been oitsourcing to figure it out, everything else works but my drl white lights
@@codywheelus4887 If you mean the forward facing lights on the mirrors, mine are markers not DRL. They only come on when the headlight switch is in marker or headlight position, unless it’s on auto and it’s dark enough to trigger headlights.
Do I need extra wire like you have and do I have to route them through the cab like you did or can I just plug them into the old ports and use them that way
They come with all the wiring. You can just plug the new mirrors into the door panels like the old mirrors and use them like that, you just won’t have a forward facing running light or the rear facing backup/cargo lights on the mirror.
@@footballlips7675 A lot of people tap into the reverse instead because the mirror lights will also come on when you lock/unlock the truck using your fob. I didn’t want to be “extra” like that and preferred to have manual control via the cargo lamp switch.
@@footballlips7675 there’s a bit of a shroud around the light on the mirror so it doesn’t blind you when backing up if that’s what you’re concerned about. There’s a reverse fuse in the fuse box under the hood you can tap into for reverse power and if you don’t like it then switch it to dome.
With the blue wire for the running lights spliced into the brown/white wire, do the lights come on with the switch on auto, or does it have to be turned to marker lights/headlights for them to come on?
Hey man, just put them on everything works great. Only thing is when I turn on the heated glass the little light indicator on the mirror doesn’t light up even tho the heated glass actually works
It’s not supposed to light up haha. The heated mirror logo is just etched or printed onto the glass like the “objects in mirror are larger than they appear” message that you always see on passenger side mirrors.
Splice it like the rest of the wires as shown at 1:02:00 using your preferred splicing method. Just gotta jam 1 end of brown wire into 1 end and then the other end of brown along with the blue to the other end.
Hey, I was trying to find your video about programming a key fob for Toyota. It was on another video you said look out for that in the future it was about two years ago. I was wondering if you could send a link or give me some information on how to do that. The guy at the dealership said that you shouldn’t have to program it he just replace the battery and now all of a sudden my key fob doesn’t work.
If it’s just battery replacement then you shouldn’t have to reprogram. Double check there’s no sticker or plastic on either side of the battery and that it’s secure/making a good connection. And of course make sure it’s not in upside down. I’ll find the video and post it for you though here

Not sure why it would work fine with the truck off and then not with it running that makes zero sense unless you tapped into an ignition power source instead of the headlight switch. Might have some wires crossed because the white should be running light not orange, just the blinker should be orange. I’d give everything another look over to triple check it’s all connected right and if you’re still having issues then maybe snip the running light wire and see if the blinkers and everything are working properly. Might have to tap into a different wire on yours for some reason but mine gave me no issues
