yeah i agree about enough cards or components, im seriously thinking about picking up another copy in the future if i get the chance and its not to expensive (which it probably will be)

You get water from the rain water collector. While you are correct in that you cannot trade for water, wood, or components, you can bring back as many of these as you can carry from scavenging. I do this often for water if I really need it. So you could go scavenging with the sole purpose of bringing back these basic supplies and nothing else.

Indeed but this would sacrifice other important things. I understand that this game is brutal but...

BoardGames4K ...LoL, yes it is brutal... so brutal that I’ve never beaten it! I always have fun trying though.

picked a used copy with expansions. have played 3 times and agreeits brutel. had to watch 'how to play' videos to learn the game. agree the book of scripts is hit or miss.
Have to be in the right frame of mind to play. think we prefer Robinson Crusoe.
Just found the app and it makes it a little more interesting for picking locks and easier to save game.

    Agree with the journal issues
A clear play guide with separate Q and A would have been good.
Regarding the lack of water You can just pick up as much water as you can carry based on your characters weight limit when returning from a scavenging. So if you are low on this You don't need to explicitly find them.
Choose Findings" on the Scavenging page of the Journal

Yea but we couldn’t find water anywhere when scavenging...not a drop. We’re we missing something in the rules or lack of rules?

      @@BoardGameBollocks Hi.
As Clive says - look under 'Choose Findings' on the Scavenging page. You may choose as much water, components, or wood as you want to bring back - In other words, it is plentiful (up to what is in the box). That's the easy part. The tricky part is bringing it back, because each resource unit weighs 1.
Enjoy your game. We love it. Cool.

      Totally missed that...wtf?
Journal also says you can take items to trade...it’s unclear whether these count towards your inventory. What you think?

      @@BoardGameBollocks Hi.
You can take as much as you want from the storage when you go scavenging. In other words ignore weight when you go scavenging, but you can only bring back upto your inventory weight.
I hope this helps. I'm enjoying what I am seeing on your channel. Hey, good luck out there!

Bringing back includes stuff you take with you for trade is what I mean? Journal doesn’t make that clear...thanks 👍

    Hi,
You said in your review that you were still not sure about the chart on some card. In your play-through, you drew an Exploration card which you read out: 'You may ignore this card or search the heap ... to draw and resolve one card from the Findings deck from the heap chart.' And then forgot all about the heap.
It is the exploration card which instructs you whether to search the pantry, or the furniture, or the heap (and has colour coded lettering: green, red or grey as a visual prompt). So you would get all the items from the heap chart in this case, and then finally roll the black die on the special findings chart on the location card for an extra item.
Also, you only draw a Residents card if you fail a noise roll. Re-read the 'Set The Noise Marker' with this in mind, and it will become plainer how you're making this mistake.
Keep up the good work. I hope you persist with this game and get a lot out of it. We think it's awesome.

This is the problem...the journal is supposed to make the game easy to play without reading rules when it’s clear reading a rule book beforehand would prevent these foggy moments from happening.
      A real shame.

Yeah. I think more people would be playing this thing if Awaken Realms had presented it differently.
There's a pretty damned good rules summary from Esoteric Order of Gamers site. I would advise downloading a pdf and keeping it in the box. Includes advanced rules and hidden rules. Good stuff.
Sure, this isn't for everyone. I've read reviews which range from the very best to the very worst. For me, it's given me some of the best moments in board gaming. I hope more people get to play it.
      Ok.

Hmmm, not sure I want it now.
Looking for a dark immersive game with a great solo version.
