Heritage railway speeds max is 25mph but the national network is the only place where you can hear locos properly at work. I'm not too sure on what the max linespeed is for the York to Scarborough line but id imagine it's max is 60mph even though the loco can do 75mph.

@@MasterMoyle Yes nothing like the sound of them on the main at a heritage railway. The max speed through Malton is 75 for all trains and a few places where it is 80 for units 75 for other trains and 90 for units 75 for other trains so you could of got up to top speed for Clun Castle on this train out.

While you say it's 75mph going through Malton, I've had a look at cabride footage for trains heading through the platform line at Malton and the max permitted speed going through there is 40mph (7029 had to go much less than that going through Malton due to the risk of hitting the platform). Western engines aren't the friendliest gauging wise even with flat sided cylinders. Even on the run I went on over Shap with sibling 5043 in March of this year, going through Oxenholme they had to slow down.
As for the avoiding line which doesn't pass through the platform it's apparently 30mph.
