There's a lot of positive things that you can learn from this loss trust me. We also before the Qatar WC we lost against USA 3-0 in a friendly game and that one was like a slap that woke us up and fix soooooo many things, after that loss, we made an amazing performance and we made history. What truly shocked me was how many of my friends who don’t care about soccer were texting me to ask me why our men’s team is so bad. What Morocco did over the past 5 years in managing its soccer program is what the US needs to learn from and replicate with the more resources available. Recently, attention of clubs went away from grassroot youth development to focus instead on brand name signatures. Morocco team players such as Targhalline, Rahimi, Aguerd, Bounou are all graduates of academies. Same with coaches: Regragui, Sektioui, Ammouta to name a few are graduates of a very targeted program to develop coaches. US knows how to do in every other field except Soccer. We got 2 years to put together a strong team by 2026 WC and we need to get to the Semis…
@JacobS-q7c USA cannot have a bad draw in 2026 as as host nation they will be in Pot 1 (together with Canada and Mexico). This automatically means that USA avoids super nasty teams like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, England, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Uruguay is there as well. The only bad thing for USA/Canada/Mexico is that as they are from CONCACAF they have no chance of playing a shitty CONCACAF team. Certainly they will have a solid Euro team + 2 others that will be from South America/Africa/Asia or New Zealand if they are lucky. Based on the fact that 2/3 of the third placed teams make it to the round of 32 it would be a failure of epic proportions for USA not to make it out of the group.

It's not so much of the pride, but the cockiness. In the Copa America, many of the players stated that they can go against any team and win, only for them to be eliminated in the group stage. Being cocky is one thing, but they never match that cockiness with results.
The problem isn't the coach, or the team, it's what is feeding into the upper levels of US Soccer. Club and High School team, and consequently college teams, are pay to play. Thousands of dollars to be on a club that has any chance of a scout seeing you. Playing time for the highest donors in High School instead of the best players, and a fundamental lack of understanding among coaches about how to develop kids rather than buy the next win with talent. The US team will never get better until the most talented kids and building skills are focused on rather than what we currently have.
Broken record. Most of this is true and we hear it over and over and over. BUT our senior team is made up of mostly players playing in top leagues for big clubs I. Euro!!!!! . Many of them starting and playing well for their clubs. Players like Pulisic etc having productive seasons and none of this translates when the out in a U.S. jersey. I thought I saw clubs release players for the summer but some put a restriction they play one or the other. Their players federation had to decide to said player in the Olympic or the Copa America/Euro roster, as to avoid player fatigue from player both tournaments or even raising the risk of injury. Hence why some players were absent from the Olympic squad.

As a Moroccan/American I think we have a great potential in the new generation but we need to work them from ground up. I mean we need good soccer schools/clubs for our youth and instill techniques, drive, and discipline. Our king in Morocco opened one of the largest soccer schools/club in Africa. The kids go to school there, train, and learn tactics as well. The forecast is the next two generations will be better players than this one. I hope there will be a change in US soccer soon.
I'm going to call out lesson 2 just cuz 2 of the goals yesterday were penalties given up by Harriel and the "lesson" is about Robinson and Zimm. Harriel got beat on the second goal (but admittedly I wouldve liked to see more from the CBs, but it was Tolkin's runner who scored) and the 4th goal was a 4 v 2 in Morocco's favor and Tolkin got beat. I don't really want to see them back starting for the US (I'd prefer new coach to bring Brooks out of the wilderness), especially Robinson cuz he seemed way more shaky. Zimm I feel like is an okay backup who wins physical battles and only mistake I saw from him was getting his feet a little tangled up on the second goal.

Many clubs did not release their players to represent their national team at the Olympics. This is not a USA only problem. All teams have the same issue.
That first penalty changed the whole outcome of the match. It forced the USA to go for a goal instead of playing in for counter attacks. They almost tied in the first couple of minutes of the 2nd half. And morocco was playing in for counters and that’s how they got the second and third goal. And that wasn’t even a penalty. It was clear that Morocco was the stronger team and that pen changed everything. Before that pen, Morocco didn’t have a clear chance at goal.
I like Zimmerman and Robinson in MLS - but they are a level below what we need on the international level. Zimmerman holds his own at times but Robinson is lost even in MLS. I said before selection that we should have brought an all U 23 roster to this tournament. There were a few on the roster and I know its much more complicated than this but maybe we should have brought the U 20 team that won the last CONCACAF tournament.
The upside is that Americans have finally learned where Morocco is. Let’s add to that knowledge: Morocco clinched 4th place in the last World Cup, taking down Belgium, Canada, Portugal, and Spain, thanks to heavy investments in youth training over the last decade and a network of scouts worldwide recruiting top players to represent Morocco. Lesson # 5 was the whole ballgame. We had none of our age-eligible top European players. Reyna and Musa who do not start for their club teams would have made a big difference over Mihalovich and McGlinn. The loss of Busio really hurt. I didn’t think this would reflect so poorly on American fans, but I was wrong. This did more damage to casual fans than Copa did.

What Morocco did over the past 5 years in managing its soccer program is what the US needs to learn from and replicate with the more resources available. Recently, attention of clubs went away from grassroot youth development to focus instead on brand name signatures. Morocco team players such as Targhalline, Rahimi, Aguerd, Bounou are all graduates of academies. Same with coaches: Regragui, Sektioui, Ammouta to name a few are graduates of a very targeted program to develop coaches. US knows how to do in every other field except Soccer. We got 2 years to put together a strong team by 2026 WC and we need to get to the Semis…
@JacobS-q7c USA cannot have a bad draw in 2026 as as host nation they will be in Pot 1 (together with Canada and Mexico). This automatically means that USA avoids super nasty teams like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, England, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Uruguay is there as well. The only bad thing for USA/Canada/Mexico is that as they are from CONCACAF they have no chance of playing a shitty CONCACAF team. Certainly they will have a solid Euro team + 2 others that will be from South America/Africa/Asia or New Zealand if they are lucky. Based on the fact that 2/3 of the third placed teams make it to the round of 32 it would be a failure of epic proportions for USA not to make it out of the group.
Forgot to mention that 1/3 of the groups will have 2 Euro teams as the groups are 12 and the Euro teams are 16. Anyways, most likely they will be in groups where we have a seeded Euro team.

The problem isn't the coach, or the team, it's what is feeding into the upper levels of US Soccer. Club and High School team, and consequently college teams, are pay to play. Thousands of dollars to be on a club that has any chance of a scout seeing you. Playing time for the highest donors in High School instead of the best players, and a fundamental lack of understanding among coaches about how to develop kids rather than buy the next win with talent. The US team will never get better until the most talented kids and building skills are focused on rather than what we currently have.
Broken record. Most of this is true and we hear it over and over and over. BUT our senior team is made up of mostly players playing in top leagues for big clubs I. Euro!!!!! . Many of them starting and playing well for their clubs. Players like Pulisic etc having productive seasons and none of this translates when the out in a U.S. jersey. Yes! pay to play is a problem, college soccer system is a joke, youth soccer needs better coaching. Blah blah blah. But that isn’t the only problems. We have players in Europe but underachieve for the national team!!!! We have Euro based (dual citizen) talent that is the product of European systems who are playing well for club but look lost and are useless in our national team. Thats coaching!

I thought I saw clubs release players for the summer but some put a restriction they play one or the other. Their players federation had to decide to said player in the Olympic or the Copa America/Euro roster, as to avoid player fatigue from player both tournaments or even raising the risk of injury. Hence why some players were absent from the Olympic squad.

As a Moroccan/American I think we have a great potential in the new generation but we need to work them from ground up. I mean we need good soccer schools/clubs for our youth and instill techniques, drive, and discipline. Our king in Morocco opened one of the largest soccer schools/club in Africa. The kids go to school there, train, and learn tactics as well. The forecast is the next two generations will be better players than this one. I hope there will be a change in US soccer soon.
The US system is racist plain and simple. The wealthy are the ones who get to play, not the real talent.

I'm going to call out lesson 2 just cuz 2 of the goals yesterday were penalties given up by Harriel and the "lesson" is about Robinson and Zimm. Harriel got beat on the second goal (but admittedly I wouldve liked to see more from the CBs, but it was Tolkin's runner who scored) and the 4th goal was a 4 v 2 in Morocco's favor and Tolkin got beat.
I don't really want to see them back starting for the US (I'd prefer new coach to bring Brooks out of the wilderness), especially Robinson cuz he seemed way more shaky. Zimm I feel like is an okay backup who wins physical battles and only mistake I saw from him was getting his feet a little tangled up on the second goal.
Well Harriel is not mentioned on the senior team conversation.

Many clubs did not release their players to represent their national team at the Olympics. This is not a USA only problem. All teams have the same issue.

That first penalty changed the whole outcome of the match. It forced the USA to go for a goal instead of playing in for counter attacks. They almost tied in the first couple of minutes of the 2nd half. And morocco was playing in for counters and that’s how they got the second and third goal. And that wasn’t even a penalty. It was clear that Morocco was the stronger team and that pen changed everything. Before that pen, Morocco didn’t have a clear chance at goal.
I like Zimmerman and Robinson in MLS - but they are a level below what we need on the international level. Zimmerman holds his own at times but Robinson is lost even in MLS.
I said before selection that we should have brought an all U 23 roster to this tournament.
There were a few on the roster and I know its much more complicated than this but maybe we should have brought the U 20 team that won the last CONCACAF tournament.

Morocco could've taken Spain out but they made silly mistakes and paid a huge price for them. They won Egypt, they are very strong and they toyed with us with 10 players recently. Morocco won by 6 - 0. Morocco could've taken out Spain and France easily. They're becoming Monsters and I couldn't be more proud
France-Morocco in Paris would be an awesome finals in terms of atmosphere; it would be like the USA facing Ireland at a Boston Olympics. Reyna and Musa who do not start for their club teams would have made a big difference over Mihalovich and McGlinn. The loss of Busio really hurt. Pepi who is not a starter for PSV would have been a big upgrade from McGuire. Scally and Bologun were also age eligible. I don't blame the coach on the roster, but the USSF, In essence, we brought knives to a gunfight.
