Lloyds cams, breather (intake), power commander, and Rush exhaust or exhaust with fish tails. Beach bars, mirrors, Classic! Love these bikes! Works of art. Nice canvas to start on.
The TS111 is an overhead valve engine, with two valves per cylinder controlled by a triple camshaft driving parallel pushrods which activate hydraulic lifters. Yes, you read correctly…this motor has three cams that drive four pushrods that open and close two intake and exhaust valves per head. So yes, it is a 4 valve head.
On the one hand, you state that it has two valves per cylinder, and then you state that it has a 4 valve head. However, there are two heads, so if each head has 4 valves, then there would be 8 valves as the dyno guy stated. Everything I've read about the new Thunderstroke 111 states that it has 2 valves per cylinder, so the only way you get to 4 valves is adding up the valves for each of the two cylinder heads. Thus, my understanding is that it is a 4 valve engine with 2 valves per cylinder. Here is a link to a video that shows the 2 valves per head: ua-cam.com/video/rey5FH0lXkc/v-deo.html.
Its funny how “Polaris/Victory for years said how crappy push rod system was so antiquated etc.. and now they are using them,, makes me laugh,,, and it is 73hp and 100.87 ft lbs of torque.. so yea he is giving crankshaft numbers not real world,,, and doesnt mention the problems with the backside of the oil pump or scavenging side ,,nor the tolerance stacking that makes them a clanking,, mess of a engine just thought you all should know the true story of polaris/victory/indian,, and whatever other name they wanna hide behind... and those are real world dyno hp and tq numbers,, i have them proof positive they are lying about their product as usual...but the dyno guy showed the true numbers thanks for showing them,, mean while the harley M8 puts out over 100 hp,,,so what are the polaris owners gonna bash on harley about now ? Lol they just crack me up yea and they copied the security code system from harley also i had that in 2002,,, and also has anyone taken a good look at the scout engine ? Look at it then Look at the harley VROD,,, funny they are almost identical lmao ,,,seems the victory videos and dealers bashed harley for years and are now copying everything ,, just not nearly the quality of harley,,,
not really, he is right. Just go and check out Arizona Victory video series how the Freedom 106 is head above shoulders better then Harley Twin Cam. Full of straight out lies. You will know if you know how engines work, otherwise you will probably listen to that "expert". ua-cam.com/video/RGkFPUeNUqc/v-deo.html If you still think after seeing those video series that PhatboyHD88 is "just another jealous harley fanboy", then actually you are the one who is stupid Polaris fanboy. If not, and you agree that Polaris used for years trash talking competition tactics then Im sorry to bothered you.
The 106 was head and shoulders above a Twinkie. Then, HD flipped the script. They got Polaris to dump a ton of money into making the low tech, chrome monstrosities while HD started making 4 valve, oil cooled engines just like Victory. I thought it was pretty brilliant on HD's part. Problem is, HD engineers just aren't as good and the new M8 had issues. Vic engines were always stone ax reliable and durable. Once HD gets this 1980s tech down pat and their bugs exterminated, they'll have a good product.
@Phatboy88, You're absolutely correct, pushrod engines are antiquated. Initial Polaris designed Indians paid homage to the classic style of a the 1940's bikes. Since the original Indians stopped production in the 1950's, sat idle for years, underwent several revivals that ultimately failed, I believe taking styling cues from history and using modern engineering was a smart way to gain immediate acceptance. If Polaris justc put an Indian badge on a Victory design that would have been disastrous. Instead Indian a used a retro-inspired introduction and eased Victory engineering in a more acceptable package, *(insert the Scout lineup here). BY-the-way, Harley's lineup is basically filled with pushrod engines. After all these years of continuous business wouldn't you think they'd do better? Indian has introduced 4 motors since 2014, (Thunderstroke 111, *{116 currently}, Scout, FTR 1200, Powerplus 108). What has HD done? Oh yea, bought back stock to inflate prices and went back to clutch cable technology in 2021. You can put down Indian, Victory, or Polaris just make sure you're not looking through rose colored glasses when you look at HD and their corporate practices.
The most beautiful bike in its class!

My indian will be a collector soon when the woke come for indian motorcycle.
That engine is an absolute jewel.
Love that exhaust tone
I truly hope to see another Indian Harley war. Compton will do both company's good. I hope both are going to be around for a long time.
"So you`ll probably tell a little difference between your 250 and this" To paraphrase Saddam Hussein, 'the mother of all understatements.'
Good review, thanx.
Beautiful
Congrats!!!
Nice stuff
This dyno guy just said the Thunderstroke 111 has a 4 valve head @ 5:26. Since when?

"Quality" of a Harley! That must get my vote for joke of 2018.
