- Heading to the Farm from the HDT National Rally in Hutchinson, Kansas is not a long travel day. But, it's another set up and back in to a site full of trees, dips and well...farm equipment too! We love boondocking out on the plains of Kansas but setting up an RV can be a stressful experience for many RVers.
We're going to show you how we do it and also helpful hints along the way. Plus we see the origin of Strataca, vist the Zoo for the first time and get up close and personal with some cool animals such as beavers and otters.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to UA-cam channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks @Happilyeverhanks #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well. We're not exactly taking Life in the Slow Lane but we do stop and smell the roses.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share our experiences of our discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:

Tracks:
Outta Here by Jennifer Holm (intro song)
As the Bird Sings by Deskant
Trails of Africa by Sight of Wonders

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.

My psychiatrist used to take Thursdays off to volunteer at the zoo. When people asked what he did at the zoo, I always told them he talked to the animals. You're welcome David.
😆 🤣 that's funny
Thank you
Did a trip to NE Colorado this summer with my best friend from Gread school. We helped his uncle harvest corn. Awesome trip. I drove the semi. My friend drove the combine. His uncle paid me. But after a week of work. I told him. I should pay him. Brought back so so many child hood memories. Life is good
Oh wow! That sounds fantastic. Glad you enjoyed it.
Forget chase car…it’s the escort car. All you need is some oversized flags on the RV and some flashing lights on the Smart! Problem solved. Seriously though another great episode…love the banter and silliness between you to. Always looking forward to the next episode….cheers from Tasmania….again😊
I vote for the escort idea. Hilarious!
Love the escort idea. Brilliant! Thanks so much.
David your slacking on this one without any jokes.....LOL. You must not forget this important joy we all get out of your videos.
I'll try to remember that... but thank you for the comment. 😃
You guys were our date night tonight. We sat in the RV in our RV garage with a cold drink and watched this video on tv. 😂 We’re cheap dates but we had a fabulous time! Great video, we loved the discussion on backing into spaces. 🚌 🚙 🇺🇸
That is awesome that you watched it in the RV! Itching to get out on the road?!? 😆 🤣 Thanks
@@bigtruckbigtravels Yes, we are! Will be out in it next weekend! 🚌🤠❣️
Next time you’re in the Hutch area, take a short drive to the Wichita area and visit Tanganyika Wildlife Park. You can do an otter meet and greet. Along with other animal experiences.
Ok. Thank you. Wichita is only about 50 miles so very doable.
I’m from the boring UK 🇬🇧…….. I just love ❤️ America 🇺🇸……I’m so envious of u guys and ur very exciting lifestyle 😍….fantastic, very, very exciting, beautiful country 🇺🇸 ❤️….ps, I love ur videos ❤️
Andddddd…..you’ve always got good, sunny weather 😊 not like wet, dull, damp Englands weather 👎 lol 😂
Another PS….lol I loved the otters 👍 lol 😂
Thank you. We're not always in great weather... but we try to be where it's sunny! Glad you enjoyed it.
We are always wanna go with you guys to see what’s going on with you. U2 are a very fun couple. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome! Thank you, Annette! We enjoy this lifestyle. Glad you enjoyed it.
Another place to find otters in nature is in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. The absolute best times to see them in the spring, summer, and fall off the year.
Thanks for the info! That's a beautiful area too. We've visited the San Juan's whale watching, so need to add the otters.
Great job with the harvest videoing! You made me miss the farm 🥹❤ Happy birthday to your mom!
Thanks. We enjoy our time on the farm.
Great to watch silage process…precision required! Glad u r still chasing Sondra after 35 yrs. We’ve developed our own system of signs while parking. Checking the length of awning & slides space beforehand is marriage saving. Must say in the beginning of RVing hubby got a bit sniffed at me. Repeating until I got it “if you can’t see the mirrors - I can’t see YOU” 🇨🇦 ❤
That is awesome! And so true about the mirrors, Yvonne. Thanks
Lincoln Neb has a neat children’s zoo. It’s geared to little ones with play structures all over it. Has a railroad. The day I went I really enjoyed myself. And they have a mock bald eagles nest so you can see how big there are.
That sounds like a great place to visit with the little ones! Thanks
Sondra, These are the type of small town zoos where I like to support with our donations because they are so personal and educational to the people in the communities who may never see a large zoo.
So very true. We dropped a nice donation in the box. They were great to let us experience the beavers up close.
Boring Thursday night, its getting dark out earlier which I hate this time of year. Thanks for giving us another great video. Made my night
Definitely longer evenings, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching the channel.
We never fight parking the rig. The only time we have words is when we have to get up and leave early!
😆 🤣 I negotiate a 9am departure... any earlier and Sondra will have some choice words! 😆
Stood on bridge in Minneapolis-ST. Paul one time and watched a river otter trying to swim upstream against the current with 3 babies for about 45 minutes. She would get one or two on her back and the other trying to swim and the current would take it downstream so she would go back to get it. Finally got all three up to where she could get on land and just collapsed from exhaustion. A couple of times we thought sure the baby would be lost but she persevered and rescued it. You would have loved watching her.
Wow! That would have been awesome. Glad she made it. Thanks
100% on the big hand signals. I used to guide helicopters into landing zones. Big hand signals are key.
Much easier to see. Thanks for watching.
Hey Sondra, you know if you'd let David get a boat you might be able to see Otters in the wild.
😆 🤣 oh don't think I haven't brought that up before! Thank you for reinforcing that idea!
When you were talking about making sure the ground was firm enough it brought back a memory. I was on a trail ride going into Houston TX for the rodeo. We usually camped in pastures, we all have horse trailers with living quarters, mini rvs, lol. There were a couple of big rvs tho. It had rained the day before and there were a couple of really soft spots. A man pulled in and headed for one, we told him but being a man he went anyway. He hit the soft spot and slowly started sinking. Several people had to be pulled out the next day.
Oh, yeah, we are constantly aware of the ground and when in doubt then we don't go in. No fun getting stuck.
Great vlog takes me back my parents were from Sterling & Alden Kansas and I remember we used to drive through Hutchinson ,Kansas, but we didn’t get to see all the places you went to of course it was when I was young the last time was when I was 16 that’s been a fewww years ago my great grandparents did live also I just remember they had the strangest front porch cement with the handrail was made from a 1/2 water pipe I just thought that was really cool,I guess I was just a “city kid” Keep up you “country vlog” “First time I’ve heard “Hutch” used in 20 years made my heart “Warm “ Thank you!
Cool memories. Thanks for sharing. We love it when our videos evoke a fond memory from our viewers. Appreciate your comments.
We have a Chase/Scout car my husband drives, and I am in the 36-foot MH. We have traveled this way for 13+ years. It works well and gives us some space and alone time.
That's what makes RVing so cool is that everyone can adjust how they RV to what they like and in the end we all get the experience we want. Thanks
Chase car, that's hilarious. I think this was the first episode that was Dad joke free. Great vid guts, travel safe 👌
Glad you enjoyed it, Brendan. I think you are correct on the bad jokes too! We'll have to rectify that in the coming weeks! Thanks for watching
Great video tonight. I loved your trip to the zoo, your photography is always fantastic! Thanks for another fun visit! Safe travels and good luck at the Dentist, I don't envy you that trip! 😢❤😂
Thanks so much! Sondra is dreading it for sure.
Love your videos , you guys are great.
I know you love your wildlife pictures and checking them off your list. Have you herd that the Queen of the Tetons 🐻 (399) was hit by a car and has passed. 😢 I don't know if you know of here. This is so devastating. RIP
It was terrible. She had so many offspring and brought joy to lots of people. Our good friends loved her as she was the first grizzly they photographed. Devastating.
You are perfect couple and you just like brother and sister you both are the best couple travel together 💯 .Communication is the key for marriage 🙏🏽
Thank you so much 😀 and that is so true. Communication is key.
This was probably one of your best videos ever. I loved seeing them do the harvesting. The zoo was great too. The otters and the beaver's were great. I hope you can go back every time you visit the farm.
Wow, thank you! Oh now that we know it's there, this may be an annual visit. 😆
I always love your farm visits. I had the pleasure of coming across an otter while walking along a remote section of river in Central Oregon. I've always thought of them as shy creatures but near where I live now an otter came up on a dock, attacked a young boy and pulled him under the water! His mother rescued him. Yikes! See you next week.
Oh my! They are clever creatures and very mischievous. Glad he's ok. Thanks
Love the teamwork! And what a gorgeous setting at the farm! Happy Birthday to Sondra’s Mom! Loved watching the otter and the beavers. The zoo was amazing - I didn’t even know there was a zoo in Hutch. Happy trails❤
Thanks so much, Elizabeth. The beavers were cool.
Another great video. Love the pictures of the otter and beaver
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for taking the time to watch.
While not as long as y’all are…….”only” 40’……backing in was priority for us to master right from the beginning. We scout the landing pad prior to starting in. Communication is key and Ally handles all the spotting. We use radios similar to you guys and have our “lingo” in which direction to move. I go where I’m told. She’s all the eyes……we are already contemplating the nervous wreck of an HDT with a 40’ trailer……
Oh yeah... come to the "dark side" of camping! 😆 🤣
I'm with you Sondra, I love otters. Have ever since I read a book as a youngster about an orphaned baby otter that was found and adopted by a single gentleman in England, The story was so beautiful, but ended tragically and was a lesson to everyone about facts versus superstition. But by the same token, the beavers are adorable, too. I love the funny little noises they make talking to each other and they do so much good and benefit any environment they are put in, to green it up and virtually drought proof the area which flows on through the ecology. Happy Birthday to your mom. And your uncles little drone really did look like a cute frog in the tree.
Many years past while living in Dubbo, I got a position at the then brand new Western Plains Zoo, which is a sister zoo to the very large and famous Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Western Plains Zoo was an open range zoo and offers so many experiences and opportunities to enjoy the enchanting antics of the animals.
Thankyou for sharing, and allowing me to go along with you on your travels. So safe and happy travels till next week!!
Wow! That sounds fantastic for a zoo down under. We want to visit Australia... but not in our rig! Thanks
I liked the corn chopping sequence!!!
That's a cool sequence. Sondra's favorite.
Would love to see more loading/ unloading of the car. Seems when packing up, that’s always missing 😂. Take care out there, love watching the adventures.
Thanks 👍The next video will have more loading.
Oh that was great that you got to see the otters & the beavers and had a great time with family members. Safe travels to your next adventure & journey 🫶🏼
Thanks so much and we'll see you next week!
Always an adventure with you two! What a great boondock spot. Happy Birthday to Mom!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the birthday wishes. She had fun.
Just ❤ your music choices, so very cool! As always a total joy watching your videos. Much ❤️ from Melbourne Australia 🦘❤
Thanks so much! 😊 We really appreciate your time watching the channel and glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
Appreciate your comments and your time watching the channel 😀
Thank you to all the farmers and trucker's nice vid
Yes, indeed! Thanks
Brave woman break checking that HDT in such (or any for that matter) a small car! But then you could say to David, "Give me a brake"? Ok, I did my damage. Glad you got to be with the animals in this one. That looked fun and enjoyable. Looks like you had fun with the family, a very large one at that. My mom is one of 14 children (a 90 year old child now lol) so I know what that is like! Travel on BTBT!
Brave woman, indeed! 😆 🤣 Family reunion on the farm is always good. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Thank you for the communication tip
You are so welcome. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching
Welcome Back To Hutchinson, Kansas!!! You should drive by Hendricks Animal Farm in Nickerson (zebra, camals, ostrich/emu) or Maxwell Wildlife Refuge (bison/buffalo & elk) east of McPherson...
Thanks. We'll check those out next time.
That Zoo looks very nice. If y’all ever have the change the little Zoo in Naples Florida is cool. It’s called the Caribbean gardens. When I lived in Naples I use to take my daughter a few times a year. Also they have some great restaurants in the Naples area.
Thanks. We've been to Naples and the Port Charlotte area. Very nice.
Love it thank you.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching the channel
Thanks for sharing. I was in between jobs two years ago and I took a back road trip across Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico on my way to Lake Havasu. There are many cool camping areas and local attractions in Kansas and Oklahoma that a lot of people just drive past. I hope to get back one day.
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a neat trip. There are some neat off the beaten paths areas to see.
Thank you for the video watching them cutting that crop
Our pleasure! We love that sequence with the corn.
Another great video and a great trip. Enjoyed the zoo with you guys.
Also the lesson on backing up into a site was great. Looking forward to what’s next.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching. We appreciate it.
Nice to see you guy"s having a great life together , greetings from Belgium
Hello there! Thank you from across the pond.
Boy, do those harvesting pics remind me of years past.
Hope you enjoyed it. Always a fun time on the farm. Thanks for watching
I think caution orange pop-poms are indicated for ground maneuvers.
😆 🤣 that's funny. But they would definitely show up! I love it!
As a trucker, this is the only way to go.
Agreed. We'd go through at least 2 dually pickups, a transmission and several sets of brakes. So much more comfortable and safer too.
Again good to see you guys again. Safe travels.🥰🥰
Thank you! 🤗
As a solo, I appreciate all your tips...I can set up cameras to be my spotter in the strategic areas...firm ground is the most important issue.
Firm ground is key. Plus, GOAL (get out and look)!
Those beavers were adorable. Happy birthday to your mom. My mom just turned 90 last week. Thank you for sharing.
Happy birthday to your mom, Marcy! 90 is fantastic! Hope she's doing well. Thanks
Awe Happy Birthday 🎂🎁🎊🎉🎈 to Mom May God bless her in all she does and many many more to come be safe and have a really great day
Thanks, Steve. She had a great day.
Great boon-docking site!
We agree! Love staying at the farm. Thanks
Love watching you guys.
Thank you. Appreciate your time watching the channel. ☺️
It’s hard to beat a good zoo especially when you get to see otters and have a beaver experience. How wonderful for both of you. Thank you for taking us along. Safe travels.
We agree! Lots of fun packed into a small zoo. Thanks for watching
I love yalls videos!!
Thank you very much 😊
Wow. I think this is a first, David. No puns! I’m suffering from withdrawals. Lol.
Thanks for sharing the journey!
I know. I'm slipping as I missed the "otter" opportunity! 😆 🤣
when I back up our fifth wheel with my wife helping. I immediately stop if I cant see her. This way, 1. I dont hit her, and 2. She knows I cant see her. Remember, if you cant see the truck mirrors, the driver cant see you.
That is key. Thanks for mentioning that tip.
My wife was wondering where Sandra got her sunglasses. Love you two
Thank you. Here's a link. amzn.to/4eXzaD3
Hi from Canada .Another amazing video .
Hello there! Thank you so very much.
Family time is priceless ❤️ My first experience across Kansas was on a motorcycle in the early 90's through many miles of farmland and the grasshoppers where horrible. My husband had put a bandana over his face and neck but didn't realize that I had never been this route. We ride separately so when I say I had grasshoppers everywhere 😅 🦗🦗🦗
Oh my! That would be terrible! Grasshoppers everywhere! 😆 things we take for granted with a windshield in front of us! Thanks
You pick good music with your videos enjoyed thanks
Glad you like them! I try to have the music go with the video.
You two ate awesom together!
Thank you. Good teamwork... we've had a few years of practice! 😆
lol break checking nice that's fun, I am not a morning person lol
😆 🤣 just a little fun. Sondra is more a noon person!
I saw the SD zoo sweat shirt! Yay! 🎉
Yay! That's a great zoo and a fun experience. 😀
Hi David! Hi Sondra! I like the airline hand signals idea a lot. Makes total sense. Of course you have to get your lefts and rights correct. Lol. Of course, if my boyfriend says left and he means right, he'll tell me no, your other left. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤣. Happy birthday to Sondra's mom!! So cool to see that Sondra got her otter fix. He wanted to play. They are cute. Please make sure you don't bring any "passengers" with you this time. It's ok, Uncle...I may or may not have crashed my drone last week too, but it survived to fly another day. The zoo was definitely the place to be! Stay safe!
😆 🤣 that won't be the only time he'll put it in a tree! I may have trimmed a few in my time... 😆 🤣
the brake check lol, Prayer that Voguer doesn't lose its Brakes. lol
😆 🤣 just having fun. Thanks for watching
There is a nice safari park in Alamo Tennessee. You don’t want to take your car in with camels and other large animals. Rent one. You can buy food to feed them from your car window.
That's cool. 😆 renting sounds like a good idea!
Another great episode, the Beaver was very cool and the Otter reminded me of the Sea Otters in Monterey Bay my hometown.
Monterey is a cool area. Love the coast. Thanks for watching
Saludos Sandra y David son un gran equipo, felicitaciones y bonito video, me gustó el zoológico especialmente los castores .
Thank you and saludos. The beavers were so cute and sooo huge!
Good to see you two! Gotta catch up. Been tied up the last couple of weeks. Good to be back in the fold ❤
Welcome back! Glad you got internet again. Hope the clean up was smooth.
@@bigtruckbigtravelsit has been very interesting. Going to try and message you. Heath stuff.
IM GLAD YOU ENJOYED FAMILY SAFE TRAVELS LOVE YOU ANNAMAY
Thank you, AnnaMay. Family time is good time.
Hey y'all! I am back in Kansas seeing my family. Love your videos!
That is awesome! Family is good. Thanks for watching
I do all of the parking in our 35 foot class A. My husband likes to yell even though he says he is not yelling. I refuse to put on a show for the other campers. If he yells, I stop. He gets the hint quickly. He also has to use passenger side, driver side, instead of left or right. It works for us.
That's great. Each will have their own style. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Another place you should visit next time you’re in Northern Arizona. It’s called BearArizona in Williams AZ. They have all kinds of animals there besides lots of bears. There’s a really cute otter picture posted on their website.
Nice. Thanks. We'll check it out.
Very interesting and enjoyable to watch .
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching
u didnt see the otters at Reid Park zoo in tucson? one of them just passed away recently. she was quite old. the otters are one of my favorite displays there.
Nope. Didn't visit that zoo. Next time...thanks
@@bigtruckbigtravels ohhh u went to the Sonora desert museum.
That is So cool that you got to go see the beavers!!
Thanks. They were very cool!
Another great video. Chris
Glad you enjoyed it, Chris.
My dad was from Hutchinson -- well, I think he lived in Willington, but then spent time there? They closed down their elevator and moved to North Texas.
Aahhh. Ok. Sondra has a cousin in Willington, I believe. Hutch is a nice farm town.
Life in the heartland. Loved the video. Y’all are awesome. Gig em
Thanks so much!! Lots of fun on the farm. Aggies with a good win last night!
I am thinking those loads should go straight to the buyer, (Like Land Mark, or the buyers). Used to be by the bushel picked and/or the weight back in my 1950's/60's!
Not sure how it works. Fun to watch. Thank you 😊
I always find it hilarious 😂😂 as a RVer myself, people get to a campsite and think they are buying Prime Real-estate for their stay. Thats why they have levelers on the unit.
Understand level for fridge operation, as I have no slide outs to worry about. ❤❤❤ Vlogs.
There is something to be said for no slides. Less mechanical issues... but it is nice when we "deploy" the house! 😆 🤣 It is funny about the camper "real estate" mentality. Thanks
Love your signals. My husband and I worked well together on signals. Other people I've worked with either didn't understand or the didn't signal where I could understand. I would end up telling them, "I have to get out and look." I did so much better alone than with their help. It matters who is signaling and if they know how to signal for you. Is that left for me to turn the wheel left or do you mean to turn the rig left? It makes all the difference.
😆 🤣 very true. It's important to have a system that works for your situation.
If you ever come back to California, I will have to take you down to Monterey and take a lazy boat down the slough and you can see all the otters right next to you then off to spot for lunch and time to die for and a visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium
That's a beautiful area. Love the Monterey coast and the cannery area. Looking forward to the boat ride... oh and the otters too! 😆 🤣
Good to be back on the farm among family. God's blessings to Mom on another year of life and many more in good health.🙏🏾💙🤍❤️👍🏾
Thank you. Always good to be back on the farm.
Happy birthday to your Mom Sondra!
Are there cattle on the farm with all that silage? Thanks for showing the silage harvest, brought back good memories & the smell of it!
Safe travels to you both!
Thanks. No cattle for the farm as the irrigated land is leased to a neighbor. But he puts the cattle out late fall, winter and let's them graze on the leftovers!
Love the beavers
They were great... and so huge!
Today, the beavers won. Tomorrow is "anotter" day. 😂😂😂
😆 🤣 that's good. What can be added to that one?!? Nothing! Thanks
Very nice video….Happy “Belated” Birthday Mum ❤
Thanks so much. She had a great one.
In Florida there is a city called Otter Creek. Maybe they have an otter? ❤ blessings Chris
Oh wow! That would be so cool. Thanks, Chris.
That's like Big Truck Yoga😂
😆 🤣 that's good. Thanks
Wow that’s a Barred Owl the call sounds like they are asking who cooks for you you should google them they are truly amazing
That's neat. We heard them in the early evening. Thanks
Big love from Norway 🌹👍
Hi there! Thank you. We've heard you have beautiful fjords over there. We must visit sometime.

HELLO GUYS FANTASTIC VIDEO YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING I JUST LOVE YOU GUYS !!! BE BLESSED BE SAFE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸BEAUTIFUL AREA TOO !!!
Thanks so much, good to hear from you.
My fix for on Friday. Backing up use to cause arguments, ( just a large three angel horse float) So now we have camera's, but even so it can still be tense. 😅😅😅😅
Sounds good. Hope it helps. Cameras are good but I think you need eyes on it.
@bigtruckbigtravels so true mate, so true. 😀😀😀
We have a truck camper on a 5500 truck with flat bed. It’s left on except when maintenance is due on the truck. Getting it back on is the only time that the wife and I may think of divorce!!! 😅/ thanks for the videos
That's a camper setup we have never tried. I can only imagine the process of removing/attaching to the truck bed. Thanks
