  • We travel 365 days a year with over 80 stops and nearly 20,000 miles...in a HUGE rig. Should we be Vanlife? Where do we overnight? How do we fit anywhere?
Stealth camping? Overnight on the street? Home cooking?
Van Life ( Vanlife ) is easier navigating but there are many disadvantages as well. Come along on our 5 day journey as we dive deep into our way of fulltime living on the road.
Come join our Facebook Group, Big Truck Big Travels for more details such as Alaska itinerary, annual costs and RV stuff.

We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to UA-cam channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well. We're not exactly taking Life in the Slow Lane but we do stop and smell the roses.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share our experiences of our discovery of What's Next.
    I get my music from:
    Epidemicsound.com
    Tracks:
Outta Here by Jennifer Holm (intro song)
    Riverside Drive by Northside
    SunRise by Northside
Mimicking your Breathing by Harper Rey
The One that Got Away by Thyra
Amazon Shop (no extra charge to you)
A convenient way to see (or buy) the items you see in the video's which may help in your adventure.

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
    Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
    Vehicles:
    2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
    2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
    2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
    2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
    Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
    30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.
BIg Truck Big Travels video's are based on our personal experience and not meant nor portrayed as experts in anything we do or say. It's our life on the road and our opinions are not meant to be construed as advice. Enjoy life on the road.

Time permitting, I like to stop there. The food is good and reasonably priced. A coworker of mine stops there every time she goes through there, just to take a bath.

I believe that Little America was founded in the early part of the 1900's by a traveler that was stranded in a blizzard. As there is no other place within miles of that location he decided to build a safety shelter that has now been greatly expanded. BTW, there is another little america location in Cheyenne.

  • @SuperSushidog
    @SuperSushidog 8 днів тому +1

That sure is a sweet rig you've got. Of course, many would find it a little intimidating to drive through small towns, cities and similar tight places. Kudos for your wife's bravery! Mine won't even attempt to drive our 35 ft motorhome, which we feel is the sweet spot between the space, amenities and carrying capacity of a big rig like yours, and the maneuverability and access to boondocking places of Class B size austerity. We're sure envious of all the roof space you guys have for tons of solar though. I'd be afraid of taking a rig your size offroad or even down muddy forest service roads or across desert sand washes for fear of getting stuck. At least you can back up easier than we can flat towing our toad. BTW, we love Whataburger too! We hate Kansas though. The last time there we overnighted in a Walmart in Liberal Kansas and our coach almost got overturned by hurricane force winds. It was so strong it even popped the windshield out of its frame - scary for sure!
We're retired FT RVers who discovered we love boondocking. In fact, we boondocked for 10 months last year. We designed and built our off-grid electrical system ourselves, on a limited budget. We started by building a 620-watt liftable solar array on the side of our National Tropical MH. Our side array makes a nice bedroom window awning too, practically lifting itself with a couple gas struts, and it's easy to clean, standing safely on the ground. Next, we built a 12v, 560ah LiFePo-4 battery using 8, 280ah prismatic cells and a Heltec 330amp BMS.
By mounting this solar array on the side of our coach, we left the roof free to rack 8, 550w solar panels down the length of our 35ft Class A, 15" off the roof, above our AC, vents, etc. It shades our entire roof, allowing plenty of cooling air underneath, increasing solar output and reducing the heat load on the air conditioners. Our 4,400w roof array can run both our A/Cs, our household appliances and charge our batteries from solar at the same time. We can even run our mini split heat pump 24/7 providing both A/C and heat powered by the sun. We use a Sungold Power all-in-one 48V, 5,000W PSW Inverter/100A charge controller/battery charger that saves us space as well as money compared to a system built with individual components. Our 48v battery uses 16, 320ah prismatic cells and a 200amp BMS to keep it safe. When the sun goes down, we're always at 100% battery capacity, even in winter.
This gives us a total of 23.5 kwh of batteries onboard - kept charged by 5,020 watts of solar. For comparison, this is roughly the equivalent of 18, 100ah Battleborn batteries. We removed our rooftop bedroom A/C and replaced it with an EG4 28.5 seer-2, 12k btu mini-split heat pump on the upper rear of our motorhome. It's super quiet and cools as well as our 14.5k btu Furrion A/C we have up front. It only draws about 1/3rd the power and heats efficiently too, reducing our propane usage. We have no need to hook-up to power pedestals or run our generator anymore, as we can now run everything in our coach strictly off the sun, including A/C and heat from our heat pump 24/7 if needed. We love being self-contained, don't you?
We travel around the US a lot, visiting National Parks, and doing the tourist thing, mostly boondocking out west. We spent last winter in the Yuma, AZ area where we finished up our solar install. We're visiting our son in NC now, where boondocking places are pretty rare. However, we found an RV park that is letting us camp in a spacious site without hook-ups for only $100/mo., saving us $500/mo. off their FHU rates. It's nice to have options.

Very nice boondocking setup you have built! Our Class C we took to Alaska is 32 feet and we feel it's a great size compromise to livability and maneuverability. This is our home so we enjoy our ability to change our backyard with the seasons. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃

I have travelled heaps, camping in remote areas, 4x4 ing, caravanning but have only have seen 1 large, long RV like yours. This was in the outback where a station aka ranch, was and the owner had imported it from the USA. As there are not many service stations out there so fuel is very precious and unless you have a fuel tanker with you it’s hard to justify such a long unit. But enjoy and be safe. Oh I live in Australia.

You ask how they know how many parking spots are available, it’s called “detect a loops” same thing that controls red lights you drive over one when you pull in and you drive over one when you leave, they can tell how many cars and trucks are there. As well as all the data like peak traffic times and length of stay.

Having lived the RV life for quite some time now, I can't stress enough about the difference a great grill can make. I had been using Qstoves+ for the longest time but recently made the switch to Asmoke and boy, what a game-changer! The versatility of Asmoke is what attracted me initially - grilling, smoking, roasting, baking - it's all just a dial away. The flavor enhancement from the different types of wood pellets is simply outstanding, bringing in a whole new dimension to our meals. The precise temperature control is another big plus, ensuring my meals are cooked just the way I like them. Asmoke's portability and battery life are perfect for life on the road - I've had up to 10 hours of runtime on a single charge. Plus, it's environmentally friendly. All in all, I couldn't be happier with my decision. #Asmoke

Cell phone data is real time and is how some of the apps including Google maps have access to GPS and exact location of traffic. If you think about how Google maps knows how busy it is at Walmart or any location is by counting the amount of cell phones in that location/restaurant etc.
