I can respect that fact that she’s a celebrity and could have anything convenience wise, but yet still works to make sure waste is minimal. That’s awesome
Being low waste is actually quite a privileged position that often takes money and ideal location to do in any measurable way. Getting products at zero waste shops, for instance. Most Americans don't live near one of these so have to buy plastic packaging. Also, having the money and time to buy and cook clean ingredients is a privilege. It isn't easy or cheap to achieve this level of eco-friendliness. And when 70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck (particularly with recent inflation), life gets even harder.
@@nette9836 You're basing that off the US? Most countries in the world don't have low cost junk food, and massive subsidies to unhealthy "foods." Here a 4kg of beans is $4.00 and a package of large chips is $8.00, a block of chocolate is $9.00 and an apple is 0.30c. The US government really needs to look at food production/waste and subsidies because it's very obviously not working in your country. For most of us "clean ingredients" are cheaper, and more readily available than junk. Even just McDonalds, a meal there will set me back $17, while I can make a meal at home for $2.50 with rice, beans, spices and vegetables. I don't even understand how the US manages to make their very average (for other countries) nutritious foods, to be so expensive. My weekly shop is $50, and all I buy is fruit, veg and spices/seeds here and there as I need them. There is something very wrong with your country.
Being vegan or low waste isnt cool. It's just being a good human and trying to be better for our planet. Just being a good person and wanting to inspire others is cool. That's what I got from this video. I still eat meat occasionally and I love vegans and vegetarians and their abilities to make food delicious. I respect everyone with different dietary needs or wants. I appreciate people. That's what is cool. She’s an amazing actress and seems like such a great person, but I just wish she wasn’t an anti-vaxxer, especially since there is a measles epidemic in America at the moment.
Why is that so horrible? It’s her children her choice. We all just need to learn to respect each other’s decisions as parents. Every parent is different.
Serena V But it’s not just her children. Herd immunity is so important, her children not being vaccinated means that people with immunodeficiency’s and children who are too young to get certain vaccines are at risk just from her decision. Also it’s a very selfish thing to do, mothers in 3rd world countries walk for hours just so that their children can get vaccinated, whereas a celebrity in a first country can choose not to. Also many of the arguments people who are anti-vaxx use are disgusting and untrue, such as vaccines cause autism, this is ‘study’ was proven wrong and also I’m sure most people would rather their child have autism than have polio. I stand by my point that anti-vaxxers are horrible and selfish people. It’s not about respecting decisions it’s about caring for others as well and anti-vaxxers obviously don’t.
L May There is absolutely no logic to the idea of herd immunity. We have the highest vaccination rates ever and yet the measles still exists, vaccinated people still get the measles. It’s nonsensical, the entire premise of herd immunity is baloney.
I might have been 14 or 15, around 2008 when I read about her being vegan in Seventeen magazine. I didn't even understand what veganism was back then, but I must commend her on the step she took so early on and still being on that path.

I love the vibe of this video! So informational and she has such a friendly smile! I hate the stigma that vegans are self-righteous people, and she is helping defeat the stigma.
I get that for a lot of westerners this seems to be an idealistic eco-friendly life... but this is mostly second nature to South Asians, South East Asians, Middle Easterners and Africans. Using rag cloths, reusing plastic covers (yes even washing them), reusing sauce bottles etc. is all a part of everyday life. Paper towels have only recently been introduced into our kitchens again due to the pervasiveness of Western culture. It is really easy and fulfilling to live like this. I hope Westerners take inspiration from her!
There are many Westerners who for them this is a regular way of life as well. Growing up in my house we used washcloths to wipe down tables and counters and they were cleaned in the washing machine when done and then re used. We re-used plastic food containers to store food which, btw, is looked down upon as something poor people do when they can't afford things like Tupperware or reusable glassware. It's hard for many people to find the way Alicia re uses things as a good way of life because we've been taught directly or indirectly that to do what she's doing is what poor people do. After decades of advertisements on TV, then online, in women's magazines especially in the 1970's through the 1990's, telling people to buy new things and toss out the old stuff then it's hard for people to go backwards. Our Grandparents though were pretty big into re -using things due to the Depression and they re used bottles and jars and cloth to clean and save for sewing and repairing clothing. Things are changing though and change will be enforced over time. Now if we could just get celebrities to stop flying in airplanes.
Im from Sri Lanka and have to say We have been doing some of the things she has been doing like Wash and re-use pastic bags, Re-use glass bottles to put and carry food, Also we use old clothes as hand towels.
My mom cut old towels and cut them up into smaller size and tadaa dish towels and as bathroom mat.old ice cream containers for food storage.Boil water and store them in pitchers and water bottle and store them in fridge instead of buying cartons of mineral water😑thats alot of plastic. Malay moms are crazy about Tupperware brand tho😂
Looove Mason jars and glass jars in general. They really can be used for multipurpose. I save the glass jars we buy stuff in from the grocery store and reuse them for storage or to pack meals with.

Love it!!! I don't get the saucages though - they are processed and need a lot of energy in my experience and in top of that they seem to always come in plastic ;) I buy a saucage maybe once every 5 months or so but I wouldn't eat them regularly! ;)
There is something to learn from her lifestyle. I think in summary, do not be wasteful. It is an American thing to use paper to wipe kitchen counters etc. But here in Asia, you use rags to wipe everything and just wash it after. Also, buying water in plastic bottles for home use is not a common practice. It is either you boil water or buy water in this 5 gallon container that is reused over and over or buy a portable water filter you attach to a faucet.
@@elisejackson2854 that's what I thought. In my house we've always keps water in glass. same with napkins, always cloth. But I'm not american, so maybe its not normal there.
Alicia inspired me to go vegan for ethical reasons 8 years ago. I read something in her book about how they got milk from cows. I had no idea! That was it for me.

And it's the only one she will ever have to buy so in the long run, less expensive than repeat buys of cheap ones.
She needs her own vlog show em how it's really done, love her
Superb, the best kitchen I’ve seen. I’ve been vegan 4yrs and tonight I’ve learnt more than 50% than I’ve knew for 4yrs. Thanks again I mean wow.
She’s an amazing actress and seems like such a great person, but I just wish she wasn’t an anti-vaxxer, especially since there is a measles epidemic in America at the moment.
L May same there’s a lot Hollywood women who are antivaxxers
c b Ik, it’s so horrible :((
Why is that so horrible?
Alicia is inspiring ..I am a 73 yr old vegetarian who now grows my own organic vegetables...i keep learning and evolving
Love. Wish everyone would just be a fraction as mindful about their impact as she is
I might have been 14 or 15, around 2008 when I read about her being vegan in Seventeen magazine. I didn't even understand what veganism was back then, but I must commend her on the step she took so early on and still being on that path.
Y'all forgot to mention her table, which is made from a bowling alley lane. ❤️🙂 It looks kick 🍑! 😊
Where do you see it?
That’s so cool
Mochi waffles = genius. Can't wait to make these!
It was like magic lol
never would have thought to do that
Im so going to have to try and make them for my son. He's so picky with his waffles and has to be gluten free and dairy free so this is genius!
@@EmmeFen I wouldn't serve these on a daily basis, though. It's good to limit one's rice intake because rice contains varying levels of arsenic.
Yes!
@@FairyRosee_ It depends on where the rice is grown and what kind of rice you're talking about. Brown rice from Texas seems to have the largest amount of arsenic, whereas basmati rice from California and Asia seems to have less. I suggest you do your own research, as I'm going by memory.
Why have I aged since 'clueless' but she hasn't?!?!

Wow. So happy to see her again! She is so real inside & out!
She was a huge inspiration for me when I started my vegan and eco friendly journey ❤️❤️❤️
I love the vibe of this video! So informational and she has such a friendly smile! I hate the stigma that vegans are self-righteous people, and she is helping defeat the stigma.
I do the same "caramel" but with mapple sirop instead of rice and it's A-ma-zingly good :)
Haha I just commented the same thing :D Great minds think alike :)
@@stacym5135 that’s really nice to know! I hope the stigma goes away. Reusing objects is completely normal! :)
@@imswaathik I agree. Thank you for the kind reply. Appreciate it!
Im from Sri Lanka and have to say
We have been doing some of the things she has been doing like
Wash and re-use pastic bags,
Re-use glass bottles to put and carry food,
Also we use old clothes as hand towels.
Growing up we just called it being poor. The plastic bags would hold your lunch, and then be used for rain/snow boots when coming home, :)
I save the glass jars we buy stuff in from the grocery store and reuse them for storage or to pack meals with.
that brown rice mochi looks good !!
I've never heard of it before, very intriguing. Waffles are also not that common in Australia, so I never would have thought you could just put it in a waffle iron.
I've seen the mochi balls before, but they are always white and already in the ball shape.
@@MM-dq2piall I know is I want a waffle iron all of the sudden! lol
I just luv how simple and down to earth you are...simple meaning real....its so lacking in many current celebs. You rock!! ❤❤
I love Alicia Silverstone!! She is so beautiful and Sweet!! 😍🎬(The Crush, Clueless, Batgirl, American Woman).

Where do you get the mochi from? They used to carry it at our Wholefoods... but can't find it. I love how you are and how you live. Thanks for being an example. I will be trying that "caramel"
I just adore Alicia.
I love how her kitchen looks like she really uses it unlike some actors in some videos I've seen where it looks like it's just for show and they never use it. I love her kitchen
She's such a lovely lady and I hope to live like her some day. Love you babe.
Great ideas and suggestions...thanks for sharing
Love it!!!
I don't get the saucages though - they are processed and need a lot of energy in my experience and in top of that they seem to always come in plastic ;)
I buy a saucage maybe once every 5 months or so but I wouldn't eat them regularly! ;)
I met this woman at a store in downtown Chicago and she was so polite, pleasant and so lovely!
freaking amazing!!! wish more people lived this consciously!!
Love that she is vegan and cares about the environment! Such a beautiful person inside and out!
I use towels, wash clothes to wipe up. I lay a towel down instead of paper towel, and throw in washer when finished
Where’s a good place to get those jars?
I love the water bottles in the fridge!!! Great idea!!
isn't that normal?
So small though, I would be annoyed by the small size lol
@@elisejackson2854 that's what I thought. In my house we've always keps water in glass. same with napkins, always cloth. But I'm not american, so maybe its not normal there.
Anyone know where I can get those water bottles?
Abc Oh people do it in America some don’t there’s 370 million people in this country
I love that she’s passionate about keeping the environment healthy (:
Alicia inspired me to go vegan for ethical reasons 8 years ago. I read something in her book about how they got milk from cows. I had no idea! That was it for me.
CoeTeak 😂 where did you think milk came from?
I knew where it came from, I was fooled by the dairy industry to think no harm came to the animals. Laughing is not helpful for others on this journey because it can end the much needed dialogue.
She looks amazing! Her skin and hair...she knows how to take care of herself and you can see it's all natural, as she can raise her eyebrows and her face moves, not like other Botox celebrities.
Wish she would have a new book out.❤
wow where do you get that stuff to make mochi waffles? never hears of it. love the simplicity and cleanliness in that kitchen!
Uhh this is the same woman who's anti-vaxx, says women shouldn't eat meat and dairy during pregnancy because it's like putting "toxic sludge" into your uterus, and the same person who believes that many women who experience postpartum depression are usually less "kind" mother's.
EXCELLENT AND INFORMATIVE THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!

Rusty Shackleford you’re not eco friendly if you eat meat. Animal agriculture is the sector responsible for the highest amount of greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and habitat destruction
I just recycle my plastic bags. I don’t prefer to have them, but like Alicia they come into my life sometimes.
like when she buys seaweed lol
I always carry a small cloth bag just in case. But if I do get a plastic one I reuse them as garbage bag for the recicle bin. Even if they are small. I live in a small apartment so my bin is small anyways.
@@MM-dq2pi Exacly. And Im sure she has lost of kitchen gadgets made from plastic, like that waffle maker. Its like they want to still have the consumerism/capitalist life with its perks but only care for the planet if its convenient.
Abc Oh 🙄 please it’s not like she’s going to throw those things away after one use
