Why Notre Dame is like Oklahoma; Why Nebraska is like Florida State: North-South Sister Schools

  • What Southern college football teams are most like Northern schools such as Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Syracuse, Oregon, Boston College, Michigan State, Washington, Penn State and Nebraska?
On this Kings of the North, Doug Lesmerises and Bill Landis pair up 13 Northern football teams with Southern counterparts based on success, history, geography, coaching mistakes and more. And then they ask whether you'd rather be the Northern team or the Southern team?
Who is Cincinnati's match? Colorado's? And why do Doug and Bill want to see Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz in a mullet?
Thanks for joining Kings of the North.

OU made Lincoln Riley, not the other way around. Look at the last 25 years of OCs at OU. Every single one became a head coach. LR couldnt win against the SEC in the big games. A lot of fans saw the righting on the wall and so did Riley.

I think 99% of ND fans feel the same way (myself included)

For those that don’t keep up with Oklahoma football (99% of the media), Lincoln Riley was only successful a few years because he had Bob’s players and Jerry Schmidt’s built-in strength and training. Once Schmidt left, and Riley had to recruit, he could recruit offensive talent (most never panned out), but the team got worse every. Single. Season. Riley was handed a Lamborghini and wrecked it. BV was handed a 1976 Ford Pinto. I don’t know why this is so hard for people to understand. Oklahoma is headed back to the promise land with BV.

9:03 I understand what you are saying but I don't think Notre Dame is in a better position. Especially if we're talking about future success. Immediate success perhaps, mostly because OU has a tougher schedule. I would be concerned about Notre Dame's future particularly because there are less young players looking to become student athletes, especially ones that can meet Notre Dame's academic standards.

U better check the average recruiting rankings over past several years! ND is outpacing OK!

ND is actually doing really well in recruiting. The one blind spot right now is at receiver but I've heard good things about some of their QB commits really trying to talk guys into coming there.

No one ever wanted LR back at OU. He had real difficulty recruiting defensive talent. The only bad year OU has had since 98 was BVs 1st year when Riley stripped the roster and others transferred. OU was as close to undefeated as you can get last year. Also, OU, unlike ND, has had many championship appearances as well as playoff appearances. They have been completely relevant since Stoops took over in 99

ND has been in the playoffs twice and the BCS Championship once since 2012. And no one wanted Brian Kelly back, either.

Just had to come back and say how much Sooner Nation is missing Muleshoe (trying to dodge the sec) Riley. None. OU just got a commit from 4 star WR out of Sant Ana. LOL

Notre Dame is like Oklahoma?! Okay I got to listen to this.
EDIT: Okay just watched this and I got to say I agree with basically all of Doug's comparisons. The only one where I might quibble a bit with is Penn State/USC. I'd go with Penn State/Miami but again it's a small quibble.
BTW it's interesting about sister cities...Maybe I was fated to be a Notre Dame fan as one of the sister cities of Toronto is Chicago and most Chicagoans traditionally have been Irish fans :)
Speaking of the Irish, last night I happened to watch an interesting video about why ND has never joined the Big 10. This guy is at home with the really early days of college football but his research is quite good. One of you guys might like watching the video here:

This was done 2 yrs ago right? Not 2 days ago. Look, I don't give a damn what these two clowns take on OU is, first off. But lets be clear. NOT ONE OU FAN, NOT ONE wishes Muleshoe was still here. I'll say it again just to be sure you understand. NOT ONE OU FAN wishes the current USuCk coach were still in Norman. Blessing in disguise.

Ohio State vs GA is just recent comparisons. There is nothing beyond the last 8 years. All your other comparisons were over a longer period of time.
