Such a lovely update jessie. Its staggering to see how early you start things. I think I'm far too Conservative with my sowing times! Need to take a leaf out of your book and start taking some risks!
I agree with you, Jessie...the frosts are unbelievable, and we've had a few days of dense fog too, so even if well wrapped up and able to get in the garden...you're either slip-sliding around, or finding yourself lost (if that's even a thing), and discovering you're in next doors garden🤣😂
So jealous of the plant stores you have in England! I'm always blown away by your tours. You'd never see anywhere near the selection of the potatoes (or garlic, or onions) for sale in person in the US unless it was at a really posh store with massively steep prices.
2 cucumber seedlings 🥒 🌱 🥒 🌱 popped and under light, one chengelkoy, one marketmore 76 - just what I had, love seeing them grow even if the 🥒 don't appear.
I sympathize with your lament about bitterly cold but beautifully sunny days ... so much warmer when there actually is snow cloud overcast ☁️ ( but we STILL can't do anything with frozen, snow-covered ground, drat!). Oh, I do envy your seed shops and selections ... 🥔 more shopping trips, lol!! Also used to have Strongbow cider ale with blackberry juice - YUM! So until the next vid, cheers to you and Mum 🍻😊
Life don't talk to me about Life ,loathe it or ignore it you can't like it ! Here am I brain the size of a planet,do this Marvin do that Marvin .. I Miss Douglas Addams.
Excellent, loved it. This week we used the candle under the flower pot method in the greenhouse and the temperature went up 2 to 3 degrees. We are in West Yorkshire, so cold . Looking forward to next Tuesday and your next episode . Love to your mum. Jasmine
Aaah Friday pm….I,ve been able to sit down and watch after a busy week! No cucumbers here yet….house is too cold….but dry garden/allotment means lots of clearing, tidying and getting ready😀😀😀
Hi Jessie & your Mum too, you have both got some jobs done, glad your investement into compost for your beds the past coyole of yearss workng on your soil. I haven't started my cucumbers yet but, im definitely going to now 🙂 thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
Amazing for January to have so many plants popping up and already starting seedlings. I’m still cutting my garden back, and giving it and the shed a really deep clean.
Hello Jessie - you've got some real heritage varieties of potatoes - British Queen from 1894 and Kerrs Pink from 1907, both have real nice flavour. If you do you own home made chips, use some Kerrs Pink for that task, but they also make really nice roasties, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. If you find any Arron Victory potatoes from 1918, try a few tubers, beautiful purple skin and pure white flesh.
Hello jess your alottment is looking fantastic and feeling full of fun, vote for allotment of the year awards. Have you planted out your pumpkin yet, I am waiting for the weather to dry up a little more.
Lovely video again, thank you for taking us to that garden centre it looked great. We had really bad frosts and lost our kale and chard, the ground is still too frozen to work on so will wait for a bit before venturing to the allotment.
My daffodils are coming up too here in south-central Indiana and we're expecting significant snowfall tomorrow. I love it when you take us along on your road trips and such. I'm going to try to grow Elba potatoes for first time this year.
It's a nice week next week, but a false sense of security as from the 5th the polar vortex is dropping the temps again for a few days. I'm so tempted to get things in but I may have to wait again
Oooh you were at my local garden centre .. I go every Friday for a nose around and lunch. Glad you enjoyed Osterley and Gunnersbury too xx ps your IM’s hip recovery has been inspirational, I’m having mine done in a few weeks
Great week! Lovely garden centre! I was going to ask about the swan 😂 bless it! I couldn’t even put compost from our muck heap on to the nemesis beds due to it being frozen 😖 very strange! Cheers to another great video! 🎉
I was inspired (by your blogs!) to try the early cucumbers! Mine are just getting first leaves, I started them on the 11th 🤞 I got a dwarf variety I haven’t tried before so can’t remember which off the top of my head! 💚🥒
Same here Jessie the weather really holding me back got my seed potatoes Ramos for roasting and chips Vitabella for steaming and boiling and Sherman for baked potatoes
I am better now more or less and could do some stuff at plot but we on another big freeze and so nothing to do we have lost so many of our brassicas but that’s plot life. I have sowed my onion seeds some leeks peas aubergines chillies and sweet peppers. So that’s it for about a month. Not doing cu’s yet they get too leggy and I don’t have room to keep them in house as will have lots of toms eventually and other seedlings. But I can’t wait to get going
I need to pot on my cucumbers pretty soon. I am trying telegraph improved, early spring burbless and carmen. All looking pretty good so far. I also did cucamelon seeds I saved from last years harvest and they are looking fantastic. Tiny tendrils on them already. ☺️
Good mix . The spring bulbs remind of the I work planting up thousands of crocuses into Dutch clogs for sale in street markets across east London. It’s my favourite time of year.
You are so so lucky to have such a large selection of massive garden centers around you! Nothing at all like that here in Ireland. Especially in the west 😢. Since Brexit we've nowhere near the quantity or selection of seed potatoes. I'm so envious 😭. I'd nearly move just to have those garden centers near me 😂 happy gardening 🌱☘️
This year I’ve seem to have lost all motivation for the garden, lots of stuff I haven’t done and have no desire to do it. I’m hoping I find some motivation. The garden centre near the beginning had a fantastic selection (a little overwhelming) and putting any spare bulbs into a pot is a great way to use them up. You can bring them inside or fill gaps.
What a weird winter! London is looking more like Boston, and here in Boston we’re looking more like London this winter… I haven’t seen a whiff of any snowdrops or daffs yet here so I’m very jealous. All we’ve got is a few of the most stubborn hellebores, and the snowiest time of the year here, late Jan and Feb still hold plenty in store for us. Watch out for that ice!
Your poor mum having to tackle all that bramble! I'm busy sorting a 3/4 acre garden for a client covered in the stuff plus 8ft high nettles that catch you in the face unawares! Ouch! I haven't visited my plot for quite a while due to the fact that it's covered in a thick layer of snow and frozen solid! My choice of potatoes for this year are good old Charlotte and Nichola plus Pink Fur Apple which I've wanted to try for some time. Fab vlog as always 👍 even when you think there's not much happening. Cheers Jessie 🥂
Thanks for reminding me to bring my bag of compost in from the cold to warm up a bit, It'll be time to turn the kitchen table into a potting bench again soon. Nice to see you out and about enjoying the museum and the garden centre, that potato selection is awesome!, never heard of Caroline potato's. Like you, I prefer a pick and mix and it looks like you got some good ones from Chapmans. Cheers to you Jessie!
Great vlog as always Jessie. It’s too cold! Yay for spring bulbs appearing! And yay for little chickens. Would love to try growing a cheeky cucumber in January 🥒😁👍 have a lovely week!
Hi folks, and girlies and Lil 👋👋….yep it certainly is blue skies …and frozen fingers weather !!!🤣😱….and those poor Swans treading on ‘thin ice’ , looking a bit bemused about the whole thing and wondering how to get out ??? (because they don’t get icy lakes much down your end of the country🦢??🦢🥶🥶…..love both the British Garden Centres and your Chapmans lovely shop (with quality Scottish ‘tatties’no less 👌)….just like my cousin’s shop, family run for 100 yrs..(last year)…which they are selling up to move to Cornwall, this year. 😢😢…,sadly. ( but good for them👍👍)….I can just see you living in a red double decker, Jessie 😋…maybe park it outside the house…and learn to drive!!!, woman!!!…Absolutely adore Nerines ….have a very large pot of them myself…pink, but now want some of those ‘whiteys’!! too🤫. Girlies will not be amused about their extended lockdown, they will withhold egg production when you break the news 🪺🥚🐓❌❌👎…..No cucumbers as yet…not up to growing from seed yet…will get plants later, hopefully ( no greenhouse/cold frame/ heated thingys…yet either)…so ‘cheating is allowed, I guess?….You got me into this again Jessie!…so gradual process 😃👌….Busy Bees…you and Mom again, leaf gathering, manure fetching, potting stuff on , bulb planting and Mom fighting with gooseberries and blackberries…and loosing!!!…Must have look to see if my patch of primroses, in my lawn, are appearing yet( courtesy of the local ‘birdies’….cos I didn’t plant them !!… thank you birds, I love them❤️❤️💚Finally, must ask you about when you might think about giving your poor lady scarecrow a bit of a makeover???…something tasteful perhaps, look like a proper ‘bag lady’ at present !!!…just asking!!!….Cheers…with some Chardonnay 🥂🥂…I like it,anyway 😄🥂….See you next week, in kinder weather conditions 🙏🙏🙏….Sue( in freezing fog and icy Birmingham 😱🥶)
Great update once again Jessie , hopefully the weather has turned for the best lol , nearly February, time is flying isn't it , say hi to your mum for me and keep up the good work xx
Robot from Hitchhiker’s… So envious of your seed potato varieties, here in Atlanta, Georgia, US I can only find three varieties unless I want to pay a lot of money to mail order some.
Hi Jessie, great content as usual. You can always make it entertaining and fun even when there is very little gardening to be done. I followed your recommendation and put a couple of Socrates in earlier in the month. They are on the windowsill in a small heated propagator and both are up and not gone leggy, yet!!. Like you, I am in the South East, so waiting for the temps to rise before I pot them on and put them in our unheated conservatory :-)
Hi Jessie, just a couple of points. 1. "We never get frosts" 😂😂😂 2. Strongbow cider can would look great in top of support canes 🤔🤔🤔 3. Passing trellis next to allotment gates without picking it up?!? Great you tube content.
My kale folded in half then gave up and died too. Just potted on my cucumber, I had success last year doing an early one called mini munch, doing the same this year.
Wow all those potato varieties. I'm gonna check my cucumber seeds and try your experiment, last year I experimented growing tomatoes in my living room and I'm still picking tomatoes
Thank you for spending the day with me in the kitchen baking sourdough, biscotti, waffles, focaccia bread, etc. WOW, it’s like spring by you. Do you usually get a proper winter with snow?
You tube is still not informing of your videos I only get to see them when they come up on general to view page despite clicking see all I'm still way behind what I wanted to do and still haven't started my garlic and winter onions hay ho perhaps this coming week,we can but hope
Is it the time for seed potatoes allready? Well that wasn`t to bad was it? The whole waiting game. Gonna sow my peppers and aubergines in feb... thats schocking close suddenly ( How that happened?) Loads of love from Belgium
My onion sets i put in trays last October the bulbs have shrivelled half the size they were for some reason but the long green stems look fine, Think im going put some more in now just in case.
Now I know how organised you are, think I spotted a blackboard with a list of jobs crossed out? Any comments on how you rejuvenate your soil would be appreciated.
Isn't that Marvin the Paranoid Android from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Haven't sown anything except onions at the moment. Last frost isn't til May so plenty of time yet. *sits on hands to prevent presumptive sowing*
Love you’re videos Jess! Can I just ask where you got your square wire frames from, sorry not sure what you call them? I would really like to get some for my allotment x
Can you get cuttings from the tree cabbage tops? Gardening vicariously at present as fell an damaged my knees before Christmas and they are taking ages to heal up.
Such a lovely update jessie. Its staggering to see how early you start things. I think I'm far too Conservative with my sowing times! Need to take a leaf out of your book and start taking some risks!
"Warmth is what I need. Bath and a cup of tea"
Next shot is necking a Strongbow.
Cheers Jessie.
Taking us on your journeys just lifts us all and adds another level to the inspiration you give us. Thanks Jessie😊
Marvin! He's a legend at Sirius Cybernetics as he's the prototype of a robot with GPP.
Your mum is an absolute treasure. Make sure you enjoy every moment with her! 🙂
Loved the tour Jessie and that garden centre I never would have left lol, not sown much as revamping the garden 🙈 fabl vlog as always 🥰
We still have at least two feet of snow and ground frozen. Today it warmed to 1F.
Can't wait for spring!
Yes, Marvin from Hitchikers. 'It's just awful ', especially when you have a brain the size as a planet. 🤣 love your trip out.
I agree with you, Jessie...the frosts are unbelievable, and we've had a few days of dense fog too, so even if well wrapped up and able to get in the garden...you're either slip-sliding around, or finding yourself lost (if that's even a thing), and discovering you're in next doors garden🤣😂

Cerinthe loved by the bees, long season of flowers, self seeds once you have it. Goldfinches also feed on the seeds.
Lol poor swan
Lovely vlog Jessie. Thank you for the trip too xxx
Lovely video again, thank you for taking us to that garden centre it looked great. We had really bad frosts and lost our kale and chard, the ground is still too frozen to work on so will wait for a bit before venturing to the allotment.

Excellent garden centre! I think I’ll be taking the budget option and growing my ‘Morrisons’ potatoes again this year though 🤣🙈
British Tv Series (not the movie) 1981 Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy 👍👍

Nice to see some sunshine there Jess. I cant believe the plates of ice you have in your garden.it's unbelievable.
