This is one of my favorite black dahlia shows ever caught on video. The crowd is sick, and they played disgustingly tight . And this was the best period for BDM, they lost their appeal for me personally after this album. Miasma, nocturnal, deflorate are good metal albums, but unhallowed is amazing. They pushed the bar for melodic dm with this album. Classic
Actually Black Dahlia Murder is melodic death metal because unlike grind or death there riffs are very melodic. A perfect example is their song Closed Casket Requiem. Plus one of their main influences is In Flames which is also MDM.
You have to be joking dude. I listen to death metal since around 91/92, dunno exactly, when The End Complete from Obituary came out I was in the shop buying it the next day. This kind of sound was defined more than 10 years ago by band like At The Gates. This is melodic death metal at its best. I'm a die hard death metal fan with hair down to my hips and long hair or not, those kids kick major ass. They are not gods like Cannibal Corpse, but still the best thing in melodic death metal.
Oh did you see them at the Downtown Brewery?? That's the show I saw, it was fucking awesome! I was early so I heard the soundcheck, they looked really pissed off when they showed up haha
This was the first vid I saw from these guys it’s just so sad. Love him for vocals and the stories he would tell, but the monster riifs too! I was in high school and I’m telling ppl check em out! Kinda weird thing to say but they are like my misfits band. Great lyrics and the band playing is just soo good. I don’t think I’ll ever in my life find bands Similar in some but so opposite but make the same emotional response.
It's death metal, it just has more musicianship than your usual death metal bands, like Kataklysm, Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy. These guys are talented, as well as the likes of Death, Capharnaum, Nile, there's a lot going on in this music.
I know The Black Dahlia Murder personally-the singer is my grandad, drummer my boyfriend and the rest are my sons. They told me you smell and they are Deathcore.

there are a few breakdowns in what a horrible night to have a curse, but that's the only cd. ok so to be extremely stretching it you can call one cd deathcore, even though they dont sound it at all. but there is no way youre going to tell me a cold blooded epitaph, unhallowed, or miasma are anything but death metal, or melodic death metal w/e
The Black Dahlia Murder is basically a heavy-ish metalcore band with *progressive* elements, whatever that means to you. Not many 'regressive' bands, or metal bands that say "How can we make this less creative and more simple??" so I tend to get sceptical whenever bands are termed progressive.

I'm sorry you're legally deaf if you think this is some metalcore. I don't hear any metalcore in it, and most metal songs have "two step" beats in it anyway. Can you not tell that black dahlia murder is just another version of At the gates except it has blast beats and growls. What kind of music is at the gates classified as? Oh yes, melodic death metal.
to learn how to death double vocal this guy should listen to the Montreals's greatest Kataklysm. the croud is bored i saw twice the energy when Nevermore performed in Montreal and these guys are Gods of metal. Who read the lyrics knows.
Not necessarily. But the combination of factors points to metalcore with TBDM. I think the reason real death metal fans are sticklers for classification is because we don't want to go to a real death metal concert and see a band (such as TBDM) that just plain doesn't fit, and have to stand through a half hour of metalcore just to hear real death metal.

They are Deathcore, because they are Death metal with strong metalcore (i.e metal and hardcore) influences.
