My favorite main character moment I think in any Mother game. Its kind of this pause in time of joy and sincerity before going somewhere they know they might not come back from. Ninten and Ana are just kids, by the time they're on the mountain its probably set in that they're way in over their heads. This is them confessing that they don't regret their time together, and Teddy being a real one and letting them have their time. Its so simple but so effective, especially due to getting its own song. Stuck with me forever, just like nearly every other scene in the game.
You know, EarthBound Beginnings, AKA the first MOTHER, may be a deeply flawed game, but it's music was always top notch. Also, I found the scene where this song plays to be a cute moment, in particular because I feel like the characterization of the main heroes is slightly better than EarthBound's. This is more to do with how they come together than anything else, the Chosen Four are brought together basically because destiny, or rather the "Apple of Enlightenment", said so, while the heroes of EarthBound Beginnings are just a bunch of kids (plus one teen/young adult) who come together of their own volition for a common goal. But, that's just my personal preference.
@@adre2194 Did you play the "Easy Patch" version? The game is loaded with a lot of mandatory grinding that slow down the whole experience, and the final stretch on Mt. Itoi can be a real nightmare if you're not prepared; even the devs admitted they didn't adequately test that area for difficulty. There are a bunch of minor details I'm also not a fan of, including stuff I otherwise would have found endearing, like how you can't be certain which NPCs can give you a cold while talking to them, all while curing colds isn't as easy in this game as it is in EarthBound. I love the game and appreciate my experience with it, but it's not one I can recommend except for EarthBound/MOTHER fans curious about the game's roots, if I'm being perfectly honest.
@@Rubberman202 I played the Earthbound Beginnings version on NSO. I heard about the dev's comment on Mt. Itoi but I didn't find it too bad, figured maybe it had been adjusted in the localization? The colds are definitely annoying but I only seem to remember that in Snowman and you can buy mouthwash to cure it (for some reason???) there anyway. I can't say I had much trouble with grinding but also I spent plenty of time going between areas and figuring stuff out so I probably racked up plenty of experience that way (I also rather enjoyed the process but I don't know if that speaks more to the qualities of the game or myself). I legitimately found the game incredibly enjoyable and would probably rank it among my favourite games? Possibly even above EarthBound (though I'm currently replaying it to get a more fresh perspective, as I last played it several years ago), which I'm sure is a _very_ hot take aha. Maybe I'm just a fan of retro JRPGs (though I guess Mom 2 is pretty retro itself) but I actually often find older games of that genre to be rather tedious... Mother had fun battles, great storytelling, and I honestly found the direction and exploration to be quite fantastic! I can't say I was very lost at any point at all, I always had some idea of what to do and came to that conclusion in an organic manner. Also a very big fan of the open order of objectives to complete, the freedom it gives you. Random encounters were definitely pretty excessive though lmao
@@adre2194 I will say this, though, I'd got so far as to say EarthBound Beginning's story is better than EarthBound's, or at least more compelling. In EarthBound, you're pretty much guided by a prophecy saying you're the chosen one, and you meet all your friends as part of that prophecy, whereas all your friends in EarthBound Beginnings comes from you, or rather Ninten, trying to figure out the mystery of why these strange happenings are... well, happening. It's primitively executed, but I honestly find it more endearing that Lloyd joins Ninten because Ninten was nice to him, as opposed to Jeff joining Ness and Paula because Paula said it's their destiny to be friends (or something along those lines).
@@Rubberman202 EarthBound feels really scripted. It's like you're on a tour through all the wacky scenarios the devs thought up rather than organically exploring the world. Big "go here, do this, do that, come back here, go there" vibes. Also I kinda hate how they changed Giygas from a sympathetic alien with mommy issues to some vague force of cosmic evil, even if they do try to explain it. There are also like 3 layers of time travel which doesn't really help... Mom 1 just feels a lot more digestible, in a lot of ways, I'd say.
I made some lyrics for this lovely piece of music... Ninten: 二人きり... アナと僕... (Futarikiri... Ana to boku...) (TL: Alone together, Ana and I...) 一緒に踊って...
心が鼓動する(Issho ni odotte... Kokoro ga kodō suru) (Dancing together, our hearts beat in sync...) 僕は彼女の目を見る... (Boku wa kanojo no me o miru...)(I look into her eyes... ) 僕はほとんど催眠術をしています... (Boku wa hotondo saimin-jutsu o shite imasu...) (I'm almost hypnotized...) 僕信じてる 君 は 僕の初恋 (Boku shinji teru kimi wa boku no hatsukoi) (I believe you are my first love) Ana: 二人きり...ニンテンと私... (Futarikiri... Ninten to watashi...) (Alone together... Ninten and I...) 一緒に踊って... 彼は私と一緒に.. (Issho ni odotte... Kare wa watashitoisshoni...)(dancing together... He keeps up with me...) 私は彼の目を見る... (Watashi wa kare no me o miru...) (I look into his eyes...) 彼は単に催眠術です... (Kare wa tan'ni saimin-jutsudesu...) (He's simply hypnotizing...) 私信じてる 君 は 私の初恋 (Watashi shinji teru kimi wa watashi no hatsukoi) (I believe you are my first love)
AnimeboyIanpower this is awesome! I wish someone would sing a cover of it with these lyrics though because I’m having trouble figuring out the tempo of the lyrics with the song. Needless to say, great job!
Ah, that beautiful moment when Ana confesses her love to Ninten, and the dance and omg I'm nostalgic again.

One of my favorite games ever made, I love this cover of the most underrated song in the series.

Why do you believe it's "deeply flawed"? I finished it just yesterday and thought it held up quite fantastically!
