FINALLY! I got an ASP! These venomous caterpillars are among the most venomous and widespread caterpillars in North America! Equipped with venomous spines, these tiny insects are far from defensleess! Growing up in the south I had always heard about the savage sting that an asp can inflict and I was curious to see how it would hold up against some of my other stings and bites! Safe to say, I was not disappointed!

I would like you to test the sting of the saddleback caterpillar to see how it compares to the sting of the asp caterpillar!
Is this the same thing as a puss caterpillar?
@@sheogoraththedaedricprince9675 The saddleback caterpillar is a different one that stings. They are brightly colored and typically have a green colored saddle on their back. But the puss caterpillar = Asp caterpillar. They are the same
@@AAONMS1 oh now I need to search for that thing. We used to catch these caterpillars that had horns around their heads like a dragon or something. Someone told me they can sting too but I never got stung. Perhaps what I caught is a bit different than what I had been told. Anyway I am going to search for that saddle back now

Your resistance to pain is admirable.

Because rolling around screaming like an idiot gets views.

I've wondered the same thing. I'm not even hating on Coyote, I still find him entertaining. Jack is just better imo.
I'd rather watch someone pretending to be in agony over someone pretending it doesn't hurt lol

I brushed up against one of these little guys last summer. I just have to say I appreciate your realistic reactions, as my experience with the sting was basically exactly like yours. Surprising and prolonged pain that spread into the shoulder and chest, but subsided in a couple hours.
When I went to pickup my dog’s ball, the outer side of my hand brushed against one.
I had the same experience, except i was unable to really use or lift anything with the afflicted arm for over a week.
The sting marks stayed visible for a few years, but slowly faded away over time. Accompanying the chest tightness, I had felt something like adrenaline?-But it probably also didn’t help that i had no idea what it was, what just happened/was happening/going-on, never had heard of it, nor seen it, and was just learning/reading about it as it just happened/was happening (They weren’t/hadn’t been made known to have migrated up to NC yet in 2014)..
It’s good that theres more awareness being put out there (especially for the higher-risk of kids & pets), but i worry about these kinda of videos potentially encouraging kids to go sting themselves to get views on TikTok/social-media..eventually some kid is going to have one of the more severe deadly reactions
I met one the hard way. It fell onto my back and I just flicked it off having no idea what it was (I may be a mom but I do not havebeyesbin the back of my head😂). I felt like someone stuck a hot cig on my fingers. Learned about them. Your info is fascinating.
I got stung twice by caterpillars years ago mowing under the same pear tree. Both times, it caused pain in my shoulder worse than the site of the actual sting.
I used to play with this caterpillars, I grabbed them and put it in my friends legs, 😂😂😂😂
@@heathafeatha93 they've always been here, seen them in the 90's and told my boss about em and he told me what they were. Btw, I worked at a tree nursery and my boss would have to know about em. Absolutely smashing video. Great job bringing those narrative through lines in, and the mid roll CTA was well placed! Your transition back to the second sting was actually fantastic comedic timing. Good stuff man.

Got into one of those in Jacksonville, Florida many moons ago. I'm typically not terribly bothered by stings...jellyfish, fire coral, bees, wasps/ hornets/ yellowjackets, etc. range from slightly scratchy to an uncomfortable burning sensation that lasts at most a minute or two. THIS sucker ^^^ felt like I had about 50 red hot super-fine needles jammed into my hand, and the throbbing lasted a good 45 minutes. By far the worst sting I've ever experienced, and as a Florida swamp-runner and S.C.U.B.A. diver, I've had my fair share.
Ouch! Sounds like a gnarly sting!
I live in Jacksonville.....was hoping they didn't live here 😅

Like coyote Peterson 😂
I'm so glad you covered this. It's probably the worst sting I've ever felt...
I've been stung by a bunch of wasps before and that didn't hold a torch to this caterpillar
I had one fall on my arm. And it wasn't that it so bad that freaked me out. It was the fact that even months later out of nowhere the spot would get agitated all over again. The little bumps would appear the site would turn red and rashy. The pain was like getting punched in the arm hard, but every time it happened it would lessen and the frequency grew further apart from the last. This kept up for almost a year. It would just pop up out of nowhere. Painful reminder to steer clear.
Strange!
Yes very odd
I had a science teacher who got stung by a jellyfish. About 6 months later, he randomly itched his arm and the original welt raised up again like a lightning bolt!
I literally stopped watching Coyote Peterson because of you. You're the one that exposed him for me. I came across this guy's channel by accident, and my mind was blown. My friend was always skeptical thinking Peterson was faking it, but I was like "No way, dude. The stings from those wasp things are intense," turns out my friend was right. He was faking all of it. Your channel is absolutely being suppressed by YT. They don't want you to grow because they know you threaten Peterson's channel, which is mostly viewed by a lot of young people and kids. It has brought much traffic to youtube, they don't want you and others like you exposing him. Honestly, I was so let down by finding out the truth, especially because Peterson seemed like such a nice and knowledgeable person who knew what he was talking about, he let me down. I don't watch him anymore, I watch you now. It is a CRIME that you don't even have above 100k views, or even 500k views, or try at least 1 million. UA-cam is definitely suppressing your stuff, bro. Appreciate what you do. BTW this video was great.

The ASP (we call them puss caterpillars her) and the Saddleback caterpillars are the most venomous we here in Louisiana. They're both beautiful and best left alone. Mother Nature is amazing! ❤❤❤

When I was a kid growing up in Houston, these caterpillars were fairly common in the summer. Seems like every kid got stung once - but once you’d been stung, you’d do everything in your power to avoid being stung ever again. All sorts of myths and rumors circulated about them, including tales of them waiting in trees until someone walked under them, at which point they’d drop out of the tree into you in order to sting you. That terrorized me, making me afraid to ever walk beneath a tree.
The one bit of advice we heard from various sources was to use scotch tape to remove the tiny spines if you were stung. I have no idea if that worked, but it’s what my mother did when I got stung by one in our backyard.
It can work to remove spines, however most of the damage has already been done at that point haha
The value people get from this dude stinging himself with things, getting bit by things, is great. He shows you all the symptoms, and gives updates on outcomes. This is good, so as to let you know in the event you get hit by something… but nonetheless, people react differently to the same bites, it’s always good to carry a eppie pin when you’re out jackin around.
Epipen. Not trying to be a dick, just trying to help, especially when something medical is involved, for accuracy.

Feels like a tiny wasp sting or like fire ants but it builds and itches like fiberglass eventually causing a rash.
When I was a teenager living at my parents, I was outside shirtless working under one of the cars. I remember feeling a dull ache in my shoulder, and so I got up to go inside. The ache spread from my shoulder through my whole arm, my muscles were cramping, and I felt generally weird.
I told my mom I was feeling weird and sat down at the table. The moment I sat down, I blacked out for a brief moment. My mom helped me wake and we saw that I had a weird rashy spot on my shoulder. Afterwards, I went back outside to look around on the concrete where I had been working, and sure enough, there was a half squashed flannel moth caterpillar right near where I had been working. I squished those barbs deep into my shoulder. I’ll never forget that!
Ouch!

I was stung by an asp on the neck and it had painful effects for almost a month. Mine was a more white colored one. Recently had a Western Corsair that stung me in my sleep and it was more painful than anything I ever experienced from a bug. That pain went into my bone it felt like and lasted for a month as well.

I have a suggestion for a wasp that has intrigued me for a while, being that there seems to be a nest somewhere near or on my property.
The Great Black Wasp. Sphex Pensylvanicus, I believe.
They aren't prone to stinging, even when coaxed, so it's hard to find many notes other than, 'it hurts, but doesn't swell much,' from John Bartram in the 1760's.
They're a thread wasited dirt dobber, dusky black body, and smoky wings with a blue glint to them. They're a parasitic wasp, and they're known to go after katydids, grasshoppers, and several spiders.
Knowing that parasitic wasps tend to have more painful stings, I'm quite curious as to anyone doing a *successful* sting test, to see where this particular species lies. They're also rather beautiful, and have an intimidating sort of wing-buzz sound that you can hear from several feet away. Very cool, and yet unnerving little species, and I sort of feel like you might just be the guy for the task, and that this wasp might just be an interesting journey just in getting a successful sting, let alone finding and catching.
I had to crush one the other night that was flying into our front door. I heard it buzzing b4 I saw it, and when it flew into the door and fell on the steps my wife quickly stepped on it. Huge black body with a blue iridescent color at certain angles. I'm glad it didn't have a chance 2 sting us or get inside the house!
The Steve Irwin of the bug world. But at least Steveo knew to NOT let venomous snakes, spiders, sea jellies, etc. to pop him. One day, dude, you and Steveo will be meeting at the pearly gates, and he'll say "You too eh? Couldn't leave well enough alone." 😅
