Cuphead Boss Battle
My favorite part about this is the implication that not only did Dr. Kahl's robot have a soul, but also snuck off to the casino and gambled it away and asked his dad to help him out when the debt collectors swooped in.

First phase: Bullet Hell
Second Phase: Crucial Timing
Third Phase: Endurance Test
Literally all the phases are a mix of all three of those. The first phase I would say is *Critical Thinking and Timing.* You need to destroy them in the right order or you’re almost guaranteed to die. The Second Phase is more like testing your *Reaction Time and Endurance.* The third phase is *Endurance and Bullet Hell.* But that’s probably just me.
Sans I quit playing Cuphead a long time ago. I think I had a Low A on Doctor Kahl, and I plan to come back when The Delicious Last Course (The DLC) is released.

Wally isn't THAT hard. I got stuck in world two because of him, but Cala Maria is still seems a lot harder than that damn bird.

Hardest boss in the game. Even the devil doesn't crowd the screen this badly.
Retro United not to mention the colors blend making it 10x harder to use your peripheral vision.
I just don't like how they turned the dash into a small plane. They should've just had the plane do a barrel roll to either dodge or go around projectiles and obstacles.
Mister Warsaw I wonder why they parry move wasn't also incorporated as a sort of dodge. Would have made these expert mode runs a lot less frustrating.
Mister Warsaw The invisible ink thing that grants invulnerability during a dash led to me just getting hit more often than not. Stuck with the extra heart the whole game.

Credit where it's due, building a robot with a soul and a gambling addiction takes some skill.
Nobody said he gambled, really. That might be how Cuphead/Mugman had to pay the devil, but it probably isn’t everyone.
@@bluerious5475 The Devil said that he had some "debtors", so all the bosses lost their souls to the Devil Casino. The thing is, on the contract, it's not Dr Kahl, but Dr Kahl's ROBOT, so that proves that it have a soul and he gamble.

I remember this boss being so excruciatingly hard that I had to step away from the game for a few weeks and then come back to it.
Even my *ss who knows every attack and have seen numerous people play the game (I always read stuff about games and watch people play them before I play them myself) and knows exactly what spots to shoot at in phase one, could never beat this as I can’t exactly deal with chaos and I also can’t work an X-box.
That’s exactly what I did. It’s been 5 weeks and I’m ready to try again, after watching this video 5x first 🤞 😂

Doctor Erwin Kahl was a genius. A criminal, yes, but a genius. His aspirations knew no bounds, and he yearned to one day rule the entirety of Inkwell Island. But building a weapon powerful enough to subjugate the island's inhabitants would take both time and resources, neither of which he was in any hurry to expend in any great detail. Eager to gain such a weapon, or at least the material necessary to create it, Doctor Kahl sought out an even greater evil genius than himself: The Devil. The Devil offered to solve both of the mad doctor's problems at once by promising him a grand machine of incredible power, which the doctor would find in the nearby junkyard. Although hesitant, Kahl ultimately agreed, unaware that the Devil had not given him a gift...but a loan. And the time would soon come for him to collect his due.
Nice writing, but you should consider that it was the robot who made the deal with the devil, not Doctor Kahl. That's why when you complete the contract it says "Dr. Kahl's Robot".
Hmm, that makes sense, yet Dr. Kahl did create the robot, presumably, and more or less programmed it.

Finished it today after trying for like 2 hours
YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH. I spent several hours and died 100+ times. NOT fun. Still haven't beaten it
I don't know why though... Last phase is ridiculously easy, I beat him after 8 tries and I'm not that good. I spent two full hours on the bee.

I have huge respect for the creator of this video, this boss has a difficulty rank as high as The Devil and is not easy to do. To beat this boss you need to be prepared for attacks, you need the right weapons, you need precision, accuracy, and lots of dodging skills.

I played against all the bosses with peashooter and they didn't even come close to the devil's difficulty

You know how cartoon mad scientist robots aren’t meant to last forever and will soon be destroyed by the hero? Dr.Kahl didn’t follow the rules and made his robot nearly impossible to beat. That’s what I love about this boss,how Dr.Kahl puts so much work in his creations,and he even tries to protect his robots “soul” from the devil.

After many months of frustration, I finally defeated this bastard tonight.
Words cannot express the amount of relief and satisfaction I felt when 'KNOCKOUT!' appeared on the screen.
Even more satisfying is that I landed the final blow with my fully charged super attack right into his smug face.
does anyone else think this boss is the absolute worst in the game? Not because he's "too hard" but because you do no damage to him at all during his lengthy first phase, and his 3rd phase is cheap as shit, with projectiles you can barely see?

If the gem colors were either green or a darker blue it would be 100x easier to see, so it then relies on skill rather than peripheral vision

He is more like Dr.Wily from Megaman, even the enemy that comes from the robot's chest (the pink one) looks exactly to a common enemy in this game series.
I can't be the only one who got Eggman vibes in the third phase with the crystals he pulls out, and I also got a little bit of SMW Bowser vibes from the looks of the little hovercraft he's in but that might just be me. Still, it seems like he draws a lot of inspiration from old video game antagonists. Namely the scientists.

Finally S-ranking this fight was absolutely _CATHARTIC._ However, I can no longer hear Dr. Kahl’s maniacal laughter without bursting into tears of despair.
This fight has _destroyed_ me.

Anyone else think the name of the scientist is a reference to Milt Kahl? I read an article the other day about him, apparently he was a Disney animator who worked on things like robin hood and winnie the pooh. I just thought this was interesting

Doctor Kahl was a strange but kindly fellow, a misunderstood genius who was ignored by his fellow man due to his eccentric ways. Kahl was lonely and longed for a friend, then he got an idea. He managed to build a giant robot, but he wasn't satisfied with a mere machine, he wanted to make it actually alive and able to have emotions. Being a super genius he devised a way to place his own life force into the robot, but he himself was left a dry husk. The robot, now a thinking and feeling being, was grateful, but he was sad about his creator's fate. The Devil offered to grant Dr Kahl life again, in exchange for the robot's new soul. After returning to life Dr Kahl was rightfully afraid that the Devil wouldn't keep his end of the bargain and so the two of them hid in the junkyard ever since.

The last stage of the fight where the doctor is laughing like a maniac will forever be seared into my memory.
Honestly I thought Cala Maria was the strongest airplane boss.
When I made it to this guy she seems pretty tame now.
Instead of dealing with two attacks at a time we deal with 3 to 4.
Honestly Cala Maria isn't hard at all, I beat her first try. Dr Kahl is just painful tho.
cala maria is 2 attacks at a time, rarely three, and the robot has at least 3 attacks at the same time
@@pappy5330 with Cala Maria you need luck. When she turns you to stone you can’t avoid, and if the eel hits you you’re done. Just have to be luck and hope they miss.

@@stevepensando2593 The robot IS the debtor, because it actually alive, you can see it angry when it lose its antenna and tired after you beat it.
Who is having difficulties, read this! (Must be almost frame-perfect)
First drop 4 bombs in the lazer and bait him upwards (The Lazer dies to 6 bombs)
Quickly clean up the spaceships, do damage and parry on that other lazer thing.
Use the bombs on the 2 down whenever is possible, those skull bombs die 1-shot to the bomb, so remember that.
After you cleaned those two down, "kill" the lazer and get your fingers ready for changing weapon a lot. "Kill" the heart with the normal gun.
In stage 2, "kill" the bombs ASAP, don't let more than 3 accumulate. Use the bomb for the head, around 9 bombs and you should be good.
SAVE YOUR SUPER FOR HERE, in stage 3, you will want to use your Super Bomb in Dr. Kahl, then get ready for bullet hell, it's not that hard. Use normal gun. GG GOOD GAME.
PS: The lazer on first stage shoots at approximately 3 seconds, so keep a mental note.

I like how in Phase 3, Cuphead is literally shooting bullets and missiles not at Dr. Kahl's Robot, his own face but Dr. Kahl didn't show any sign of minor or major damage.

Just to let you know every antagonist scientist does have an enemy that isn't human. Whether it's mostly animals or non human beings. So far that has become like an epic in my point of view based on my pop culture knowledge on this kind of scenario.
Dr Kahl's Robot always takes the cake for being the hardest boss.
And I'm trying to defeat him and got through the disembodied head phase at 1 HP, and died instantly by those homing bombs.

There is a special place in hell for Dr Kahl and his robot.

That first phase is annoying. It barrages you with 3 types of attacks no matter what. 2nd phase is easiest, but make sure to hit the bombs far away. Third phase you need to stay calm. Try to stay in the back, but not all the way in the back. Never stop shooting.
I always get the feeling that the one that's laughing is actually the robot, always.
I just realized.. the soul contract isn't for *Dr. Kahl.* It's for *Dr. Kahl's Robot*
Does that mean that Dr. Kahl not only gave his robot a soul, but let it go to the devil's casino, and bet on it?
That's exactly what that means. The whole idea of a mad scientist is someone who toys with nature in ways that others would find unethical (the whole "playing God" thing), so it's probably for the best not to think too hard about where Dr. Kahl got a heart/soul for his robot and how he made it sentient enough to gamble it away.

I didn’t even cheer in excitement. I couldn’t express anything anymore. The hours of torture fighting this robot and wack haired looking fellow had scarred me. I didn’t win. I survived.

I think the reason why there's a contract for Dr. Kahl's
robot and not for Dr. Kahl itself, was because Dr. Kahl signed it in the name of his robot to avoid any consequences
With everybody bringing up Wily and Eggman, I'm surprised there's no mention of N. Gin here. Honestly, this fight, in the first phase especially, legitimately feels like a 2D interpretation of his fight from Warped, which makes this one of my favorites in the game, even WITH the difficulty.

Doom Demon Every other charm is useless in aeroplane battles. And frankly, I feel the coffee charm refills the meter far to slow to be effective, but it's the only charm to offer any kind of benefit it aeroplane fights since it adds on to the meter you're filling and you'll fill the meter pretty quick in aeroplane fights, the coffee just adds an early boost to fill it up a little quicker
Dr. Kahl's robot is probably my favorite Cuphead boss even if I haven't played the game
