Two years later, we beat the Aztecs at The Murph, 12-7. As a spectator in 1984, I was at The Murph for the Holiday Bowl. I really liked that stadium. It had a lot of life!

A lot of memories. Jack Murphy Stadium AKA The Murph. Watched a lot of games on TV. The Holy Roller 1978, The San Francisco 49ers, and San Diego Chargers played many games both pre season and regular season games, Super Bowl XXII, XXXII, and XXXVII, the latter was final time the Super Bowl was played, who can't forget Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and Monday Night Football. @@mikeweber1625 I feel you are a bit exaggerating, no disrespect. I believe charger games in LA will resemble those of London or Mexico. Chargers will sell out the stadium. You will have tons of fans from the opposite team the chargers play against, other fans wearing other team shirts and some casual fans. I am from LA not a big football fan but I will go to charger games here and there as a casual fan.
Not a Chargers fan but went to a Chargers game in 2016 when I was stationed in San Diego and they played the Raiders that day. On that day, I was definitely a Chargers fan and glad the Raiders got their butts handed to them.
Great documentary from a unique athlete. I wish I could have been able to go when I was in San Diego for military training. Junior Seau, Marty Schottenheimer, and countless other icons made their mark at Jack Murphy Stadium. (Qualcomm Stadium.) It's sad to see this famous landmark torn down. There's never going to be another facility like it.
It had THE BEST DESIGN of all the football/baseball stadiums of the 60s and 70s. Grass field, the open end on the southeast side to allow airflow (with the smells of Randy Jones' BBQ wafting in from there), the ground level entrance to the back of the Plaza level, a square shape like Veterans Stadium so only one field level section had to be moved, and pretty good sight lines (except in the back three rows of Plaza where you had to almost rest your head in the lap of the person next to you to see the main scoreboard). Now let's see how long it takes for the Rams to get tired of Dean Spanos crashing on their couch.
Always our stadium. Lotta PadreDodger SDSUvsBoisy and RaiderCharger great matches. The stadium that built those great rivalries. Peace is beautiful but doesn't have the gruddiness of the Q We will miss that great place

The last game I went to at the Q I didn't even get to finish because of a lightning storm and we ended up leaving. Unfortunately, a very fitting sad memory as the last game I would see.
It's vile that people with money can just up sticks take the club with them.. I'm from Ireland when people say the chargers first thing comes to mind 🇺🇲San Diego 🇺🇲 it's tribal, it's identity, it's who you represent when you leave your city to travel the world and it's taking away.. so so sad great video🇮🇪🇺🇲

That’s a bummer. I’m an Angels fan in the OC but we did also like the Padres and would go down to Jack Murphy to watch some games and of course watch Tony Gwynn. My cousins friend is John Flaherty too so it was cool hanging out with him after the game. Sad to see it go. To bad the Chargers couldn’t renovate and use it. It would be a much better situation then what they have in LA, I don’t care how expensive that new stadium is, Their fan base and home is San Diego not disgusting LA. Just as the Angels home and fan base is Anaheim NOT LA, but that’s another story. Lot of good memories of Jack Murphy. I’ll miss it. 🤙🏻
Moved outta San Diego awhile ago n man I’ll forever miss walking to talk the trolley instead of driving to the q and huh when did they change it to sdccu stadium
Being a San Diego native I’ve seen a lot of great things and events at that stadium. But one of the strangest things I saw was in (I think) 1984 when I went to a Def Leppard and Blue Oyster Cult concert. And when I was walking around the outside sidewalk to find the gate to go in, I saw Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth walking on the same sidewalk, and they weren’t on the bill. And mind you, they were big stars by then. They were just there to watch the concert. Weird!
So many games and concerts lost to memory It doesn't even look like San Diego It might as well be a distant planet Imagine Los Angeles without Dodger Stadium What's so good about progress, anyway?
Sad seeing iconic stadiums and sports venues get torn down usually for a shopping center or houses to be built in the area left behind. Feel bad for San Diego citizens losing their team.
I have bad memories of this place unfortunately. I was 14 with my 16 y/o bro, both Colts fans here for a Colts/Chargers game back in '97. We were decked out in Colts gear and just respectively, not annoyingly, cheering our team. The Charger fans were HORRIBLE towards us. I know we were in "enemy territory " and opposition was expected but those fans were throwing spit balls, trash, and half full beer cups at us. Those were "adult" Charger fans and we were JUST KIDS!!! Like why TF are you throwing stuff at a 14 y/o boy!!?? I get it if we were rowdy adults, but no, we were JUST KIDS!!!
Did allot of games there as a slow mo replay guy. Funny thing is we got there six hours before the game and left two hours after. Every stadium I ever worked at I know as a silent stadium without fans in it because I worked in the truck. The only difference is after the game they all were dirty smelled like spilt beer. RIP Marty and may God bless those that are low in the heart with your passing.
My dad told me, when he got to meet Ron Rivera and a tour around the stadium, the lockeroom smelled like straight musty clothes. The first day I was watched a football game here, was the last playoff season in San Diego.
This was hard to watch. My entire experience of high school football was based on getting to "The Murph" and it's just gone. Everything is temporary I guess. 😔

@@catiline1 Give them 5 years and LA will be happy to let them go. Nobody seems to care about the team there and likely won't notice if they left tomorrow.
@@catiline1 they can buy out the lease and move early if the nfl had an opportunity in sd with a brand new stadium to fatten the owners pockets. Sad as it is for me to admit this, but I think they’re moving to London
As far as I am concerned It’s The Murph!
I always called it the Murph, the heck with the other names. Loved watching Tony Gwynn and the Pads back then.
Proves you're too young.........It'll always be San Diego Stadium to me
Not a Chargers fan but went to a Chargers game in 2016 when I was stationed in San Diego and they played the Raiders that day.
(Qualcomm Stadium.)
It's sad to see this famous landmark torn down. There's never going to be another facility like it.
This was in my recomendations. UA-cam did something right lol.
Amazingly awesome video. Subbed and belled.
Always our stadium. Lotta PadreDodger SDSUvsBoisy and RaiderCharger great matches. The stadium that built those great rivalries. Peace is beautiful but doesn't have the gruddiness of the Q
We will miss that great place
Great stories, thank you!
I used to live 5 minutes away from this stadium when I lived in San Diego, so many memories (chargers & padres).
HOME!!!! A lot of memories in that stadium. A tear.....smiles...... even saw the SD Chicken hatch there!!!! To me it will forever be my boy Seau's house. JR loved that place.........man...SMH. :-(
Thx for the memories. Qualcomm aka "Jack Murphy Stadium."
The last game I went to at the Q I didn't even get to finish because of a lightning storm and we ended up leaving. Unfortunately, a very fitting sad memory as the last game I would see.
Do you remember the date?
@@DrBoulter Oct 12, 2018 SDSU vs Air Force
I went to the last Chargers game ever played there (they lost to the Chiefs). That was the last time I was in that stadium.
Being a Canadian Chargers Fan since 96,
Wow! So he played there? That’s really cool.
I don’t know anything about the sport this guy played I guess it’s American Football but I loved this video! What a nice guy he is
It's vile that people with money can just up sticks take the club with them.. I'm from Ireland when people say the chargers first thing comes to mind 🇺🇲San Diego 🇺🇲 it's tribal, it's identity, it's who you represent when you leave your city to travel the world and it's taking away.. so so sad great video🇮🇪🇺🇲
Tony Gywnn, you are still my guy ... ☝️👍🙏😁
Dreams will last forever
Akbar! My dude, long time no talk! Miss the old charger days... It's Jay Jay by the way. Staff Assistant/PR Writer from back in the day. Looks like we both got youtube channels now! haha
Bruh, take Akbar on a walking tour for a cross over video.
Growing up in San Diego I'll always remember walking up those signature spiral ramps entering and exiting the stadium
Weird!
Why did they tear it down!? The stadium could’ve been a historic landmark…
I miss the chargers being San Diego. Though I’ve been a life long lions fan but the chargers was my favorite team in the afc
So many games and concerts lost to memory
It doesn't even look like San Diego
It might as well be a distant planet
Imagine Los Angeles without Dodger Stadium
What's so good about progress, anyway?
Do you remember any of the crazy BYU Football games? I'm of course a BYU fan but there's been some crazy ones
Loved watching my AZTECS beat the shit out of the damn mormons.
Sad seeing iconic stadiums and sports venues get torn down usually for a shopping center or houses to be built in the area left behind. Feel bad for San Diego citizens losing their team.
I attended one game there...Chargers preseason 1977.
Thank you 🙏🏿 the years we lived at home real chargers 🔌 Gang 619 Townbizz
Are they building a new stadium? What are the plans?
Nice touch... his friend is wearing a Dodgers shirt.... :)
Noticed that. Thought that was funny.
Oakland Raiders would take over this whole stadium when we came😭🤣🤣
Did allot of games there as a slow mo replay guy.
Old and outdated stadium by modern standards but still very functional.
Soooooo where's San Diego State Football team playing their home games at now? I remember the Raiders games there. Great atmosphere
In the meantime up in L.A at the Galaxy Stadium until the new stadium is built on the old Qualcomm Stadium site
My dad told me, when he got to meet Ron Rivera and a tour around the stadium, the lockeroom smelled like straight musty clothes. The first day I was watched a football game here, was the last playoff season in San Diego.
I went the USC Vs Iowa game. Last game to ever be played at the stadium.
RIP Marty
Did he talk about this while he was a cohost for American Ninja Warrior?
Did they paint the locker room over after the chargers left?
Pretty sad when Padres and SDSU can both get stadiums but the chargers couldn't. LA isn't home for them and I'm a niners fan
This was hard to watch. My entire experience of high school football was based on getting to "The Murph" and it's just gone. Everything is temporary I guess. 😔
