Thanks for responding! I have been sharing your videos with everyone I know that remembers the mall! One of my family members actually teared up watching this...without the time and effort you put into this man, it could have wound up being completely forgotten!
lol seems the buzz on the vids are the rails... every vid segment are 2 vida from last year and this year, honestly i kept the older not just for real time walk through (which it is) but to see if anyone notices, im glad you guys look deeper into the video as i hoped you would. theres more to notice aswell.
JC Penney's outlet was sold I think it was last summer. They are now the JC Star outlet or something like that. They are still in business because they actually do really good business. There are no other stores open. The other last remaining hold out was Sears which closed for good more than a year ago. They have even taken down some of the stop lights right there on Romig road.
@Jonathan Lindsay no problem, thanks for sharing, thats why i decided to do these that way its not forgotten and no one needs to risk their own well being by breaking in.
@MegaMobass its pretty bad, it could be saved if the roof was replaced, but the thing is malls are not a social status anymore, gone are the days where every weekend ppl go to the mall, these are the days where going the mall happens once a month, to save it would have to be a place ppl will want to go to and not just to shop.
I cannot believe you pulled this off! I thought getting in there was a lost cause, I have been fixated on "RAM" since its decline, I am a South Akron native, my dad worked at Wards! Last time I was there it was right before it closed in 08. Your videos are incredible! I can't imagine actually seeing it up close, I mean the vandalism is disgusting, it was actually kind of peaceful at the end, I remember sitting in the promenade! I would give anything to pick your brain, see unedited footage! -Jon
@Jonathan Lindsay thak you, yeah i was surprised when after 2yrs of trying i finally got permission inside, as for unedited footage, there really isnt any cept camera re adjustments. as for the vandalism, most of which were not done by the public, but by those intrusted to guard it, look closely at the film or go look thru JCP, sissor lift tracks, and i personally seen a bobcat, what vandal totes around bobcats and sissor lifts?
Hey GPTV, I really like your work and would like to know whom you contacted to for permission to photograph the building. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Not trying to be a smart ass but did you just film this in 2012? I could have sworn the last time we looked out from Penny's to the elevator area a few months ago the railing around that area was gone, maybe I'm mistaken either way still cool to see
that infact there are ppl here who give a damn, and are not a lost cause. what you guys did by cleaning up old signs and then stacking them at the fountain, was not just a clean up, but a memorial the the souls that still roam R.A.M, myself as g.t productions, and filmographer for g.h.o.s.t.s paranormal, i thank you. im currently conducting interviews for my up coming documentary and would like to get you guys on camera.
It is reallly heart breaking to see all theses malls getting shut down! It seems like everything that America use to stand for is either being shut down abandoned or just plain forgoten about. It is scary to think what is America is becoming people losing homes left and right everything that we use to stride for like our theme parks and our shopping malls is just turning to dust.
@Jonathan Lindsay on 1 venture in there, ove been allowed in 5 times including halloween of 2011, i discovered a store that was once on fire, a huge blaze that could of taken the whole place down, but some good person busted a water main and saved it
theres no railing anywhere in the whole mall i was in there last week the place is beaten to shit broken glass everywhere we tried to clean up some of the glass so we could ride the cool spots we found and we cleaned the main area up and found some signs and out them in the main area
I am so far removed from Rolling acres as I am in Oregon and this is the first time hearing about it. When you panned toward the Rolling Acres Management office past the JCPenney and it showed that the JCPenney lights were on and that they were in business- it scared the sh*t out of me! Why are they still in business? Are there any other big box retailers that are still in business there?
Was there yesterday is that what all the items were in the fountain??? Peeked inside that still busted door on the entrance and seen a bunch of misc items around the fountain couldnt tell what it was though. Either starting to tear down the old Sears or what??? Seen the razor wire up maybe Summit County jail outpost lol. Also the parking lof behind Gatsby's I mean is almost unsafe completely caving in the ground. Unreal!
@fabioshBmx yeah i noticed that earlier, went to jc but they were closed. i gotta say, what you guys did with those signs was the most respectful thing I've seen done there, maybe if more ppl did what you did instead of the stripping of it, then iy would prove to the city and mayor that this area is not fill of crime and criminals
@Ghoul nghoust JC is still there in business, everything else retailer wise are gone, all privately owend buildings now. even the banks arbys conrads are shut down. and the Goodyear center was torn down BUT a new taco bell was built in its place, guess the old taco bell is getting torn down.
What I heard is that it went to auction but there was no bids on it. Because the electric company and the city has a lien on the building. So whoever buys it has to pay who knows how much money for the liens
+Johnny Singeorzan your correct. At the last auction no one bought the building so the city owns it now and I recently read an article saying the city is moving ahead with there plans to demolish the mall. They can't bring down the old anchor stores though because they are privately owned. The old Dillards and Macy's are used for storage by the owners. Target is "Storage of America" and Sears is "Pinnacle Recycling". JC Penny still owns it's old building
JC Penney donated its building to the city to be demolished. Whatever they build next (if anything) will be built around Storage of America and Pinnacle Recycling (which are both making good profit as of now). So damn sad. Gonna miss the elevator and that orange retro fountain.
EARLIER THIS EVENING: 11/5/13 @ ROUGHLY 6PM, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CALLED OUT TO ROLLING ACRES MALL. I WAS FILMING INSIDE THE SOON TO BE CLOSED J5 OUTLET (JC PENNY) WHEN STORE MANAGEMENT CAME ON THE INTERCOM SYSTEM: ATTENTION SHOPPERS IN CASES OF EMERGENCY EVERYONE IS TO LEAVE THE BUILDING IN AN ORDERLY FASION, EVERYONE PLEASE EXIT NOW. SOMEONE SET FIRE TO SOME GARBAGE AND CAUGHT THE MALL ON FIRE. NOTHING TO SERIOUS THOUGH.

How bad is the condition of the mall? Do you think it could be saved or is it gonna end up like Dixie Square Mall?
@Jonathan Lindsay on 1 venture in there, ove been allowed in 5 times including halloween of 2011, i discovered a store that was once on fire, a huge blaze that could of taken the whole place down, but some good person busted a water main and saved it

Is there any garbage left in the bins
@MegaMobass yeah could very well end up like dixie, it not far from that point.
