Thanks so much for you great contributions to the board game hobby and for helping so many people find games that they would enjoy!
Discovered your videos recently and mourned you both so hard when I got to this one. Gosh the content you made was so delightful and how I wish you both were still making board gaming videos, but thank you so much for all 4 seasons of Starlit Citadel. We truly wish you both so much happiness and success.
Will be a real shame to see the series stop. These two have been quite frankly the best board game review presenters out there.
Thank you both for so much wonderful content and for creating such a warm and inclusive community around your channel. Best of luck!
+Aurelia Henderson Thank you Auerlia! It was / is one of the things that we've always tried to do and we're glad to see it worked for you at least.
+Aurelia Henderson I can't agree more. They have been a staple of my UA-cam feed for years and will be sorely missed. We desperately need more female representation in the board gaming media. Kaja and Joanna, a heartfelt thank you from France for all you've done. Cheers!
+Yann Hillion Very true. Our hobby has certainly benefitted from these strong female voices.
+CommanderNuts That is a completely asinine attitude. We already have literally (used properly) dozens of competent, engaging, witty and enthusiastic MALE board game reviewers. From The Dice Tower folks, to Shut Up & Sit Down, to Board Game Brawl, to Drive Thru Review, The Board Game Geek, to innumerable podcasts dedicated to our hobby, all hosted by MALE personalities (save for Christina on Blue Peg, Pink Peg, Sharla on Sweethearts or Rivals, Amanda who just joined Heavy Cardboard). There are a few, like MaggiBot, Suzanne from BG Breakfast and Blender, Alina from Würfel Reviews, Tiffany (OneTAR), and a few more contributors to The Dice Tower, but it's not a whole lot. So losing two prominent, engaging and knowledgable young women is a loss to our hobby.
Yes, I am happy they are moving on to more exciting projects, but I can still lament the loss of their FEMALE perspective on games. Believe it or not, gender perspectives on various themes, mechanics, genres or weight of games CAN differ (not always, but sometimes). As someone that plays games with both, I enjoy hearing if, when and how those perspectives differ. It's about diversity and inclusivity.
Cheers.
+CommanderNuts An example - noticing the lack of female character representation in games and/or sexualised representation in miniatures. Or, you could just compare how the ladies did the review for ...and then we held hands compared to other reviewers.
Thank you for giving all of us your time and effort and lucid thoughts on the several of the games you covered over the years!
I know many folks really appreciated it! Take care!
Oh no! I literally just discovered you guys YESTERDAY!! I like your reviews better than the Dice Tower or other reviews I've seen b/c I feel like I learn a lot about the GAMES and there's less extraneous babbling. Your reviews are well produced, informative and thorough, but concise, with good visual and audio quality and excellent camera work and editing. I don't feel like your vids are meandering conversations that waste my time. I want to play boardgames, not endlessly hear people opining about them!!
So what are you doing next? Do either of you come to the Origins Convention? I live in C'bus and always work the CABS Library in the Board Room. You should look me up while you're there! Pretty much anyone working the CABS Library knows me.
+Donna Brooks so far, no plans to do Origins or any con's as far as I know. Joanna is continuing her web series work and acting work, Kaja is running her business Valkryie Martial Arts.
Donna, I feel your pain. I also recently discovered this series and shed many a tear when I saw it was over. I feel like I just discovered FIREFLY after its cancellation. K&J are basically responsible for my current obsession with ARKHAM HORROR! Great job, y'all -- I'm combing through your archives as we speak. Good luck with everything!!!
Robert Peterson
Yeah, I will have to go thru their archives as well. I've been watching a ton of game reviews and demo plays the last couple of weeks b/c I'm going to participate in the Origins Math Trade for the first time this year, so I wanted to learn about games people are offering, as well as games I will want to try at Origins. I have a reputation at my boardgame club of never playing the same game twice. If given the opportunity, I will always choose to play a game I haven't played before, whether old or new, and I like so many genre of games that I can't do a "Top 10" list. I'd have to have a Top 10 list for each genre! Do you go to Origins?
Thank you guys very much for your reviews. I only discovered you today :( But I enjoyed your review of Firefly. Thanks.
Thanks for all of the comments, everyone! I've always known that we had awesome viewers, but seeing you all come together like this in one place is a bit overwhelming. You are fantastic, and I'm so grateful for having had the opportunity to be a small part of your lives for the past four years.
It's never easy to end a project you care about -- especially when you're still happy with the quality of the work you're putting out. In the end, we decided it was time to end on a high note, rather than trying to continue while other responsibilities took away from the time we'd need to put into making solid videos.
I know Joanna's got a ton of great ideas and some neat projects coming up, and I'm sure that you'll be seeing more of her. Meanwhile, I'm putting all of my energy into continuing to grow Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly. We've got a bit of stuff up on UA-cam as well (ua-cam.com/channels/OWxwFS1KnDIJLcmtg96keA.html), though it's all swordplay and fitness, rather than board games. I've also got some great friends in the boardgaming community here in Vancouver, and you're likely to see me popping into their projects from time to time.
Thank you so much for watching, and here's to new beginnings!
I just stopped by to say I still miss your reviews and would love to see a comeback!
I was just sitting wondering, "why haven't I heard from starlit citadel in a long time" and then I see this video. this makes me sad, I've really enjoyed your videos which have always been at a very high quality. Best of luck out there! - going to miss you both.
So sad to hear this. Your reviews were high quality, thoughtful, and frankly I'm even more distressed now by the lack of female representation in gaming media, of which you were always a shining beacon (which always made your name fairly apropos). Regardless, you don't owe anyone anything, and I wish you well in all of your future endeavors, whatever form they may take. Thanks for all of your hard work.
I miss this channel. Watching some vids in 2020!
I may or may not be crying right now. But it's okay, you guys did an amazing job for the past four years. Thank you for making these amazing review that still are my favorite to this day. I'm excited to see what else you guys will be in. Thank you again for all the hard work you have done to make this series.
Just wanted to let you know that I miss your videos a lot, even over a year later! This is an exciting time in gaming ... I'd love to see your takes on some of the new titles.
A great series. Too bad. A few years later the store is closed too. Starlight Citadel...you can hold your heads high knowing you made your mark!
I really miss this channel and the wonderful, concise yet in depth reviews.
Thank you Kaja & Joanna for all the well composed reviews, and good luck!
Thanks you so much for so many wonderful review - you will be greatly missed
Although late..... I still enjoy the reviews . Hope all is well for both of you. The end of the review series is the start of something new.
Thank you so much to everyone for the outpouring of well wishes and thanks for our little show - Kaja and I always knew that the audience was the best part of what we did, and even at the end of all things, you prove yourselves to be just that.
Many people are hoping to see us again online - don't worry, I have a new pilot already in development, and I will be excited to show it to you soon. I'm going to be jumping over into tabletop RPGs for a while, which is a personal passion of mine. If that kind of stuff interests you, subscribe to my (currently rather sparse) UA-cam channel, as well as following over on the Twitters at @mightyjoanna. I hope to bring the accessibility and openness that Tao, Kaja and I brought to Starlit Citadel Reviews to that new project, and I hope to see you there.
Also, feel free to watch more of me running around in chain mail with elf ears on over at Standard Action, the webseries (www.standardaction.com). If that's up yer alley. :)
You're both awesome. Thanks so much for the time you've put into Starlit Citadel--I've enjoyed your descriptions and insights for a long time now.
dang it, just came across this channel and i like the way the game is reviewed. i wish you guys would be back to do some reviews from time to time of the more 'popular' games
Good luck with whatever comes your way. Thank you for all that you did over the years.
Thanks for all the awesome reviews! I hope to see you guys together in projects, i'll keep an ear to the ground.
Sad to see it go, but thank-you for the great reviews. Good luck for the future!
So sad to hear. I love watching your reviews and always found them so helpful. Good luck on things to come!
I wish you both well with your new endeavors. I am sad to hear the news though. I enjoyed your thoughtful and concise reviews.
Kaja and Joanna, thank you both so much for each and every show you put out for us. Your articulate, well presented reviews were a joy to watch and will be dearly missed.
It was your show that introduced me to the wild world of hobby board gaming and I will be forever grateful for that. Good luck in whatever comes next!
Thank you for the reviews! Hope to see you both again somewhere online.
Noooooooooooooooo! Love you gals!
Thanks for contributing to the hobby we all love!
I'm sad for never leaving a comment telling how much I appreciate this channel, girls. I started to follow the episodes a year ago and I'd like to thank you for all the time you have put on this project, you really did an amazing job. I hope you keep being successful in whichever projects you are up to now. Best wishes from Brazil!! :D
can't these guys come back or whatever? I mean 28 K subscribers is not bad! It would be lovely!
You girls rocked it for years, one of the best ... but all things must pass, continued good luck with your new adventures. (-:
Super sad to see you two go. I wish you both all the best for the future.
Sad to see y'all go, but thanks for all you have done!
sorry to see this series end. Best wishes on your future projects, looking forward to seeing you both again soon.
Just recently found your channel and enjoyed the episodes I watched, look forward to seeing what you do in the future!
Thanks for all your reviews! Hate to see you go.
It's a shame to lose you two. There are so few women on UA-cam doing this sort of thing. You will be missed.
This was the best board game show on youtube. So sad. Ladies, wish you all the best of luck!
So sad to hear. Really respected your voices in the hobby. Best of luck to both of you. And thank you!
Really miss this series
I hate that it has to end. You guys are fantastic, and I was really hoping to watch the channel grow more and more.... Best of luck in everything you two do in the future.
I am going to miss you gals, I honestly feel you your videos where underrated! very clear and concise as apposed to indirect milking of others, when ever I actually want to rigorously, thoroughly, get to know a game and its general dynamics(which is often) as an experienced appraisal starting point: this is the channel that I come to and send links to friends. I give credit where credit is dew, and for( real gamer's) this was and is a great channel! PS. I especially liked the dexterity wood balancing Bandu video! because i could't find a good one other than in Norwegian any where else!
Yours were the first reviews I looked for on games, and usually the only ones I watched. Glad to have had you there and hope your next projects go well.
This was probably the most well produced board game review show. You guys deserve to be way bigger
Thanks! Good luck in everything you do.
Really enjoyed the reviews - best of luck to you both! Sorry to hear the news.
So sad to see you both go. I've discovered so many new games because of your reviews! Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this series, going to miss it. I hope the future is great for the both of you!
You both are awesome! I'll miss your amazing reviews! You'll added a lot to the board game community! Hope you go onto bigger and better things!!!
Thanks so much for all of your reviews. I found them to be incredibly insightful and thoughtful, deep, sophisticated, and well produced. I wish you all the best in your future projects, but you and your reviews will be missed.
3 years later and i still miss this channel :(
Same here :( Those years were the best in board gaming. Fond memories.
I'll miss your quality, concise reviews. All the better for the differing viewpoints. Thank you, & God bless!
Congrats on your 4-season run and best of luck with whatever the future brings.
Darn, we watched you all the time. Sad to see you go. All the best - thanks for all your hard work on this channel. It was appreciated.
I always appreciated your content very much. A warm thank you for all the effort you have put in. :)
Best of luck to you guys in your new ventures! I thoroughly enjoyed these reviews.
So sad.. thank you for you contributions, it was really nice to watch your reviews, full of energy and enthusiasm! Good luck with your future projects!
NOOOOOOOOOO! You guys and your reviews were my #1 Source for Board Game Reviews and Recommendations. I loved how concise each review was with the description of the game play and final insights. Good luck with your future projects.
I found you now just to find out you've made your last video 8 months ago =(
Your reviews have been the only board game reviews I've enjoyed so far, what am I gonna do now? I hope you pick this up again sometime, all the luck to you, have a lovely life
Sad to see you go but thank you for all the wonderful reviews! You've been awesome! You'll be missed
Thank you so much for all the hard work. There is no one that can review a game more clearly and quickly than you two ladies. My hats off to you and I wish you both the very best. And if you ever decide to dust off the show again...I think you will find your fans waiting with open arms :)
So many great reviews, so many hairstyle changes ... all will be missed. I've been watching since I got into the whole new board game lifestyle (I prefer that over "hobby") about three years ago and thanks so much for all the reviews. Best of luck and can't wait to see you both in some future creative endeavour!
Bummer, I will miss you both doing these video's. Good luck to you both in your future endeavors.
Thank you so much for all the great reviews!!! Enjoy your future projects, whatever they may be :D
Congratulations on the entire team! one of the top video-reviews-channel of boardgames!!
Bummer. Thanks for all the videos. Good luck to you both.
It upsets me that your show is coming to an end but I completely understand. I really enjoyed your show. You and your team did an amazing job. Thanks and keep on board gaming!
All the best. You created a wonderful series of reviews. Thank you for the four seasons.
so sad, one of the best shows ever, thank you for all you have done for the hobby...you will be missed
Thank you for all your hard work! It is really appreciated by many people.
That's too bad. I really loved your delivery. You are so concise in your explanation and editorializing about the game, and literally just deliver the message well. In contrast to many rambling, disorganized, and poorly orated reviews. Thanks for your reviews SC and good luck!
I'm kinda shocked and sad to see you gals go. best of luck with everything
Sad face much. Tuned in over the last two years and I binge watched seasons 1 & 2 when I had a weekend free. Aww man! Hope to see you both doing something you love and thanks to your team for the brilliant content you've released over the years.
Thanks for everything! Will be exciting to see what projects you're starting after this!
So sorry to hear this. My best to both you smart, funny, talented and beautiful ladies. Thanks for giving me info on games that led to buying games that led to great times at my table. Take care. Big hugs all around.
Your reviews and detailed gameplay overviews are/were much appreciated, and I'm sorry to see them come to an end. Good work, well done, and thanks for all the videos. :)
Noooooooo! So sad. Loved these reviews. Good luck in future endeavors!
It is so sad to see you two go. You were such an inspiration for me in terms of starting up a board game channel. You helped me to learn how to play some really amazing games. Best of luck and hope to see you back on youtube again soon. :)
thanks so much for continuing over the years. I'll really miss watching your lovely well made videos. The opening titles were always so calming. Good luck with everything you do and I'll definitely check you out on Twitter.
You've been one of my go-to sources for game reviews; your absence will definitely be felt. If I had my way you would review forever, but it is not to be. I wish you both the best of luck in your endeavors. May your dice roll high, your meeples step lively, and the bandit be elsewhere.
I can honestly say that over half of my boardgame collection I have because of you two. I've loved your show from the moment I discovered it over a year ago and I'm certainly going to miss you guys. Thanks for the wonderful reviews and... just because I have to put this in here... I hope you change your minds and come back for a season five! :)
Very sorry to see you go. I have enjoyed your videos for 4 years. Thanks and good luck in whatever you do next.
You guys were the best! Thank you for all the reviews. You not only helped me and my friends find new games to love, but you also just helped us figure out how to play them. A great show and a great series. Thanks.
End of an era :( but wish you well and will miss this! Thanks for all you have done!
After a year off, any thoughts of recording more Starlit Citadel?!?
As a viewer since season 2 I say thank you for all you have done, many of the games i have purchased are because of you two. I hope you enjoy whatever projects you have next!
You make awesome content... I'm going to miss your show! Thank you for your incredible passion and energy... and best of luck!
It will be very sad to see you go. I've always enjoyed your thoughtful reviews, plus it was inspiring to have two well spoken women in a seemingly endless sea of male reviewers! I wish you and your crew all the best, and hope to see you both on youtube soon!
I wonder what kind of PR, social networking, and fundraising would have worked to save this. I wish there had been more sustained support and risk-taking, inside and outside Starlit Citadels, from people who understood the value of what was being done here. Frankly, this series deserved the longevity of Dice Tower. in the year since this announcement, no two females have taken over the mantle on youtube. shame.
Sorry to come so late to comment, but thanks for all the wonderful videos!
What a shame, but happy for you since you seem happy. I only recently started to game ( August 2015 ) and I watched your videos quite often. Please enjoy your life! And hopefully we see you from time to time in the future. Good luck.
So bummed to come across this video... I just discovered your channel today.
Oh well, at least you have one helluva review backlog for me to work through.. All the best, Brian
please please please keep us updated on future projects. Sean from Atlanta. :)
Very sad to hear this. The best of luck you two!
Thank you soooo much for all your contributions. It's been a wonderful run, and best wishes to all! Much success to all your future endeavors.
Thank you.. you are the best reviewer in board games world... It always exciting to see your reviews.. :D
Sad to see this show go. Thanks for the awesome reviews. It's been an honor to get your perspective on board games. Best of luck on your new endeavors!
All the best ladies, thank you for many great review videos!
