    The most asked question in the recent month was - Why the Ever Given Ship sailing in narrow canal Got stuck in it? Many experts has commented that it was due to heavy wind and the role of ship squatting and bank effect of suez canal which can be considered as the main reason behind the suez canal blockage.
    The bank effect and the squat effect on a ship happen in when the ship is in narrow canal with shallow water. Due to the ship bank effect, it tends to move away from the line of course which may lead to collision or grounding, which was seen in the case of Evergreen ship got stuck in Suez canal.
    In this video, we will see how the bank effect and squat effect on ships can lead to accidents and grounding.

    Yes bank effect.. i read somewhere that the ship was steaming at higher speed in order to counter act the gusts,
    So the speed was higher that usual and might have caused the vessel to swing to stbd

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, higher speed might be an added factor for the accident.

      @@marineinsight the ships LOA IS 400MTRS,
      so even the slightest swinging could have caused the accident , and the gusty wind might have made counter rudder inputs to nil effect

      In other words ships in such canals definitely need some extra maneuvering thrusters to deal with high lateral winds and rudder inst always enough.

    So wind effect doesn't play any role 🤔

      The ship has been held by Suez Canal authorities and the crew is still onboard.
