Absolutely helps! One, about the oxgall (lack thereof in Holbein). Also, I'm finding my art gets better when I paint something, but instead of pushing on, I take it back to square one with some basic techniques. I'm usually surprised at some huge thing (paper wetness) that I should have picked up on earlier, or work on my basic strokes, etc. #ThatCat ❤️
This is very helpful. I am a beginner and really aware of how important it is to learn about the effects of how wet the paper is. I use Winsor and Newton paints - do you have any experience of them please?
At 5:35 why do you mix the colors on the color pans itself? Wouldnt it be difficult to get that particular color next time due to the mixing of the two colors?
Hi Cassa Nova, I never want my color mix to be the same, 1. I prefer to mix colors on a paper, 2. I do want to have a different ratio of those two colors on a paper every time because it looks more natural🤗
@@mariamorjane I am afraid I don't understand... What I am trying to ask is what if you want to use one of those color by itself... Here you mixed 2 shades of blue...ultra marine and another shade of blue And you mixed it On top of one of those blue pan What if you want to use that blue by itself after that... Wouldn't the color mixed on top of it make it difficult?
Hi Cassa Nova, I don't see the reason why not to just add a single color on top of that😃it's just a matter of a color placement. My suggestion is to try everything you described here on your watercolor paper. You will see that it's ok to mix colors this way too and on top of that still use a single color🌹
Good morning maria! Thanks for tutorial, shows more patience needed with my painting. Always nice to watch and listen to your channel. Hope you and family ok . Still crazy world, hard to shut out. Take care young artist.....
Thanks for this! However my OCD kicked in at 5:36: “No! No! You do NOT mix paint colors IN the pans! That is what the *mixing* pallet is for!!” This is why I could never be a children’s art teacher! I have to just walk away after handing my own children the pallets when they paint in watercolor to keep myself from being too critical 😖🤣🤣🤣
Hello Maria. I am investing in a collection of Holbein watercolour paints. What are the most popular colours you would recommend should be in the set. I am looking at a set of 18 paints. Would this be enough? Many thanks.
Thank you so much! One of the best demonstrations of this subject that I have seen. I am getting better but at first I just used to start working with the paper just flooded with water! Yikes! Is that cat going to be on your patreon?? 💕💕💕
Hi Donna, I am so happy to hear this🌹☺️thank you so much and yes, that cat was chosen by Patrons in a preview post to become a tutorial with Voiceover 😍So in few weeks it will be posted there as well.

Another amazing video! Thanks a lot!
Great info! I always paint too soon after wetting the paper and end up with a puddling mess, 😬
Your welcome🌹☺️
Great explanation.!!Can i use the same technique with acrylic? I don't have watercolors and hence using watered down acrylics.

I understand your question . When you have use that particular shade just take a clean brush and swipe across it . Pure pigment will be ready to use
Thank u so much for this!
