  • The Kootenays is a region with a very rich mining history and culture. We explore the mining towns of the kootenays and the old miners and prospectors involved in the rush.
Ainsworth Hotsprings is a natural hotspring that comes out of a cave system. There are drifts inside the caves with hot water vents spewing hotspring water out of the caves. The town is a semi ghost town and is a part of the silver heritage trail.
Then we head to Kaslo, a beautiful town along Kootenay Lake. It was a port for sternwheelers and trains shipping ore to smelters throughout the province. The Kaslo Mining Museum is an incredible place with many historical documents, pictures, and artifacts. It is a look back into the history of a unique region.

Very interesting. I went through the area 7 years ago with my wife and boy. Beautiful lakes and historic sites ,but those were different times. What is left to attract for a young person for a positive economic future is my question.
Thank you for spending the time and expense showing us what was .

Realy interesting video. The history of B.C. mining is of great interest to me. It is the foundation of modern B.C.

Thanks for the video. Just a minor correction. The hot springs are naturally heated by the earth. It is cooled down(at time) by staff to be adequate, by adding water. And the caves are not caves but a tunnel that has been caked over in calcification.

13 inland ferry's in BC are free. Balfour ferry to Kootenay bay is about a 45-50 minute crossing.

Your 'Mine Cart' is actually a Pneumatic powered loading machine aka. a mucking machine in the underground gold mines in the Timmins ON mining area...I know because this was the first type of loader that I was trained on in my 43 year underground mining career....a very dangerous a machine if an operator doesn't know how to operate it.

Just out of curiosity, do you know whether there have been any Sasquatch sightings in the area?🤔👣

I'm from the area. I saw one in 2007 3 miles from the ferry. Also heard one at a natural hot spring just North of Nakusp. There have been other sightings too.

So many inaccurate statements. Do your research before you post.
