- Delph Donkey - Three continues the Oldham to Delph branch line by following the trackbed from Clarkesfield Road to Lees (Oldham) Station.
Loved this too brilliant.😎
I'm really enjoying these videos because I used to live and play in these areas when I was a kid, some 50 years ago. I've not been back for many years and I'd like to say they brought back memories but unfortunately they don't. The places look nothing like I remember, which is a shame.
Unfortunately, the world is changing and not always for the best.
😍 very beautiful
Why do so many councils insist on filling in old cuttings? Do they cost too much to leave empty? I wish they would leave them open. And what a good series of videos, with a really civilised commentary without constant profuse blasphemy like some, and far better use of the camera too without swinging it about making it impossible to watch without suffering brutal dizziness.
Thanks Major! Maybe they are a H&S (cough) liability to keep the cuttings. It detracts from 'following the line' when they are filled in.
Enjoying the videos please keep up the good work cheers Pete
Thanks! Looks like a gradely walk along that track bed.
It is a gradely walk.
I've walked this route the other way back in 2006 and someone had poured some kind of filthy brown sludge on the top walls of the little bridge at 9:40, I don't know what it was but I wasn't going to touch it!
Oldham Council wanted a sub to buy the line in around 1982 but I told them I could both make their linear park and a profit out of the conversion so there was no deal. I told them to give me planning consent and contracted the job to Peter Casey, then setting out opn what has become a substantial local business. It became a little bit of a cat and mouse game with Frank Sandbach, Peter's foreman trying it on and us at B R Property Board watching the antics and insisting on corrections - but in the end the walkway from Glodwick Road to Wellyhole St was the result with OMBC buying the completed job for a quid - after BRPB had made the predicted profit!
That's very interesting Frank.
I've worked for Casey's in the past as a contractor. Like most of Casey's subbies, my opinion of Mr Casey is not suitable for print. I do have a good idea how he came by the money to buy that giant pad on Wakefield Rd though.
