EitS have definitely provided soundtrack music for a bunch of films, most notably Friday Night Lights (the movie and the show), but a bunch of others as well. It's definitely a niche genre that people often love to death, or are pretty indifferent to. Personally, it's one of my favourite genres of music, and these guys are one of my favourite bands, each of their tracks captures a particular emotional feeling or experience, and the length of their tracks often plays into that by letting people really lean into and just ride that particular feeling/experience they're trying to communicate. And yeah, some of their stuff is just flat out relaxing and pretty easy to relax to. There's often a fair bit of peaks and valleys, highs and lows in a lot of their songs. Another song off the same album as this one, 'Your Hand In Mine" is probably their most popular, though it's not as heavy. For more heaviness similar to how this one ended, you'd maybe want to look into "Let Me Back In" (off their album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care) or "Catastrophe and the Cure" (off All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone) or either "Greet Death" or "With Tired Eyes, Tired Mind, Tired Souls, We Slept" (off Those Who Tell The Truth...). They have ventured in some other directions, such as "Disintegration Anxiety" off one of their newer albums, which is much shorter and brings in some different hardware to the mix and a pretty different form of songwriting than typical in their brand of post-rock. There are some other post-rock bands that may be more in your wheelhouse, like Long Distance Calling who sometimes stray into more typical rock/metal music. "Black Paper Planes" tends to be the recommendation from their catalogue, though anything off Avoid The Light is a good intro pick for them (I think they've made better music since, but this album is a good introduction). If you want something more like a normal rock/metal track, then "Lines"is probably the call there. Or, if you ever want to get deeper into the post-rock genre's core, checking out a relative legend in 'Godspeed You! Black Emperor' would be my recommendation, they utilize a fair bit of classical instruments in their music, and while their songs are often in the 15-20min range, they're absolutely unreal. Anything off their albums "Lift Your Skinny Wrists" or "F#A#infinity" are classics in the genre.
This band is on my Mount Rushmore. If you need another band to check out on a slow week, give animals as leaders a try. They're a faster paced and heavier instrumental band, they're amazing as well. Psychical education is a nice starting point for them
Wish the toured more. Only seen them once the only time they played where I live and they were incredible live. All their albums are good too but this one is my favorite.
Explosions in the sky is how you should be acting in the bedroom 😏😜 Edit: I just realized what I said and I want to clarify that I was talking about their musical energy not giving you spatial coordinates to aim for...

I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song
Same here. Saw them for the first time right after this album was released... they closed with it and I lost my fucking mind

I fell in love with this band because of Friday Night Lights the tv series way back when it was still being released. It's one of the greats.
This is a great composition, I liken it to a symphony piece. Also, the album should be listened to as one piece of work.

Absolutely love this band! ❤
You guys should check out Plini - Electric Sunrise
Also instrumental, prog.metal, Australian dude making all music by himself (I think)
Awesome! 🤘
