UPDATES - Since this video was published the Dew Collector now costs £2250 from the Trader and Dew Collectors now generate heat on the activity map to contribute to your overall heat map which can ultimately cause Screamers to spawn - so having a lot of Dew Collectors can generate a lot of heat and mean more Screamer Scout Zombies. (Sorry! I'm just the messenger!)
This is wild. They added an entirely new item for getting water and then nerfed it to the ground. Getting enough water from them to supply a group of four is frustrating. All three slots should generate at the same time and increase speed during the rain. I miss the bottled jars.
Seriously, what survivor in their right mind just throws away a jar for storing water, and who tf relies on looting to find water? No immersion at all. Artificial difficult survival at its finest.
I was more annoyed that certain recipes caused the jar to be lost. That used to happen with anything that wasn't a drink. At least it's consistent now without jars. Another reason why I'm fine with the change is that dew collectors allow you to have water anywhere. Before, if you didn't have a bucket, you had to either make trips to fill up water or set up near a water source. Also, you just get drinkable water directly; no boiling needed.

Fair enough. Really imo everything is either perfect or manageable. Like the new perk system (on xbox btw) is completely manageable.. It ain't like the older version of the game I'm use to. Though really it's the jar and can removal is whats really irking me right now. It was definitely a rude awakening when I first bought this "newer" version two days ago. Just imagine a older player hopping on the latest updated version on console since 2016 running around looking for empty glass bottles or drinking water only to realize... Where's my jars?!.. The fuck? Where they at bruh?? 😂😂 The fun pimps just need to bring them back and honestly the game would be "perfect"
My friend and I just came back to this game after neither of us playing for a couple of years. Absolutely floored by the fact they’ve removed jars. It made it far more realistic in terms of survival methods! Scavenging for containers, melting jars of snow to make water etc, it makes no sense they’ve gotten rid of this. Thank you for sharing the tips. I literally found a purifier mod tonight so we will make use of it! Will check out some more of your videos to see what other nonsense we’ve missed 🤦🏼♀️
My problem is that they overkilled it because of a symptom of having access to lots of water. That being infinite stamina. People were just chugging water whenever stamina was low to no detriment to never have stamina issues. In response they nuked water collecting. I can easily think of 2 more lore accurate solutions without nuking the collecting. First, over hydration. You drink too much water, you get sick and throw up losing food as well. There is a reason the gallon of milk challenge is dangerous, and water is no exception. Your stomach is only so big. (Would also add overeating in a similar fashion) Second, make boiled water still run a risk of dysentery, but much lower. Boiling water is great but it doesn't make it completely safe, so make it still risky, or if you really want to make it hell, give water an infection chance, making you push for mineral water more. With just that you fixed the issue while still have lots of water.
I agree that the over hydration buff was probably not needed. They could have also done other things like remove the water from inside cities, like the stuff in the culvert ditches and pools - or at least make that stuff toxic or something so it can't be used. There were other solutions they could have used for sure, but that's where the mods come in!
the earth is covered in two thirds water. why wouldnt water be abundant? unless you live in the middle of the desert, there should be water everywhere.
So to sum up: Problem was, that water was used to refill stamina To "fix" this, Pimps removed jars, resulting in way harder early and midgame, since water is a basic need in the game Could they not have simply removed the "regain stamina"effect from drinking regular water? And regarding the water filter mod, i would just wish they made a craftable (but not repairable) handheld waterfilter (like the "Lifestraw), that you hold in hand when drinking from open water sources and looses duratility doing this.
New player to 7dtd and base building games, 7dtd was on sale on Steam for like £5 and I watch a lot of Neebs Gaming and their playthroughs so it kinda got me thinking about playing a game I don't normally go for (usually FPS, RPG, 4X). Anyway I got it, fired it up and get into it, all was going okay, did some looting, spawned a distance away from the nearest trader so hunkered down near a lake in the Forest biome (Skeeters Place for those that know), Day 2 I looted some more houses got some mod for armour and a decent spear and a toilet pistol with some ammo, all good. Started building a horde base with wood then upgrading to cobblestone. All was going well. I didn't realise water goes down real quick in this game, found some murky water in POI's but not enough to survive for an amount of time so the next couple days I was wandering around aimlessly while dehydrated to the point where it was no stamina, couldn't run, couldn't harvest or do much, so went to Diersville I believe, cleared a few houses, got just enough murky water to boil on the fire and up my Stamina for the horde. The first horde went well, considering it's my first time. The water problem however, didn't go away... until I googled A21 Water, and lo and behold this great guide popped up. Now, do you remember in the 2nd paragraph I found some armor mod, that mod was a water purifier mod and I had it installed in my helmet... THE. ENTIRE. TIME. FML, not to mention I was near quite possibly the biggest lake in Navesgane and just a literal skip and a jump outside my front door was a small pool of water that I could not only swim in, but gorge myself on as much water as I need.
spawned in shitty location, closest trader was 2.5km away and did NOT have the water purifier, prostituted myself to stay hydrated until I found cooking pot. Thanks for vitamins tip, I did not know that
Bro i got the same shitty spawn. This water shit is killing me (literally) they didnt have to go this far or they couldve just taken away boiled water from loot, made the water filter craftable and kept it moving. Especially cause of the fact that it's the first thing you can craft before the forge but the forge is easier to craft. Might as well make it a later game craftable instead.
Except the filters are like 2.2k dukes for one... unless your doing 3-4 quests in the first day you probably wont have the dukes to get a filter. The new system isn't good over all and i'm probably going to mod it out as soon as i can. But i'm giving it a go for 1 play through before i decide to do that. I just don't see the point, of this change... not only is it LESS real, but its not a fun change either.
Yeah they increased the price in an early patch, this video was out the day after release. I've added a top pinned comment now, thanks for reminding me!

Have you done a clean install and removed all old custom POI's etc from game files? I've heard some people had issues with cities not spawning POI's due to this. Hope you get a good map soon!
So wait... you think they're going to patch out the water filter helmet attachment because it's doing what it always did? If they DO patch that so it doesn't work anymore, then I might quit playing the game. It'll be obvious at that point that the goal isn't to make a game... which by my definition at least is 'something you do for fun'... and more to make some vision of annoyance for those masochistic, hardcore+ types who love to suffer as entertainment.
I think I was wrong about them patching it out, it seems like an intentional design choice the more I've looked into it. I just thought it was strange they'd leave a way to get unlimited hydration in the game when they went to the effort of removing glass jars to make water more of a challenge. But I guess it just means if we get that mod early game then we're super lucky and have no water issues moving forward!
Unfortunately not, they removed glass jars from the game entirely this update, when you drink the jar disappears so the methods mentioned in this video are now what we are left with. Thanks for watching!
Having about 8 players working together on server it's vary hard to keep everyone with high tear hydration options. We have about 10 dew collectors they arnt enough.
You need to look at the water with nothing in your hand and not move for a few seconds for the prompt "press e to drink" to appear. I had the same issue because I was impatient and moving around, but if you just stay still it does come up. Unless it is just an issue with that mod. Hope this helped you!
I'm low level and have 2 helmets, one with my helmet light and one with a water purifier mod in it. I also carry a bucket of water around with me. And I usually have 100 or so building blocks / frames. When I need to drink, I build a small 1x1 hole with the blocks, drop the water bucket in it, pop on the water helmet and drink away. When I'm done, pick up the water with the bucket, and pickup the blocks. It is beyond retarded.
Yeah I've heard that people are using this strategy early game, the other thing to do is just have an infinite water source at your base and over hydrate to a huge amount before you leave each time. I also heard that people on Multiplayer serves are passing these mods around and taking in turns to drink from lakes to still beat the water nerf, so the purifier mod is even more broken on multiplayer because one mod can help 10 players no problem.
I never used to use those purifier mods, but now I have one and have used the shit out of it. I could see them making it rarer but I don't think it really cheeses the game much, that's what it's for.
Have murky water in you inventory. Open campfire. Place cooking pot in the cooking pot space in the campfire (shift clicking will ensure it slots into the right place) Put fuel in fire (wood or coal.) Search water. Or click on the murky water and then click on recipes. Click on clean water icon on left. Now click the arrow to indicate how many you want to make or simply type in the required amount. Ensure you have the required amount of fuel for the water to cook. The fuel section of the campfire has a timer that shows you the burn time. Good luck!
Created a new game with 33% loot. Already died 3 times from dehydration and starving XD. Thanks for the advise about drinkin from water sources. drink from river + charred meat + Dysentery = survival )
The Trader should always have that purifier mod, it's strange if they don 't have it for you. Questing, earning dukes and buying drinks at Trader vending machines is a good short term solution until you get your dew collector up or get a bit luckier with murky water.
10/10 holy shit saved my ass. mayorly... im against guides but i was so desperate i said screw it just the water i look up. i didnt know that helmet thing works on lakes :O
You need to wait about 3 to 5 seconds totally still while looking at the water with nothing in your hand and you get the prompt. It doesn't pop up if you're moving about (I know this because I was also moving about trying to find the sweet spot, turns out you just need to stand still) hope that fixes the issue for you!
I have the worst luck. I have a pot and a couple vitamins but i cant find enough murky water. Lol I also think removing the jars was a mistake, but i understand why. I just wish they would have made them more rare so you dont have 30 stacks of jars. I like the idea of the Dew Collector but i was having trouble finding a water purifier until i saw this video. It also feels like everything is harder to get a hold of too but that may just be my horrible luck running the game lol
Finding something to drink is not a problem, but now the problem is to make a lot of glue, duct tape, which means problems with crafting many necessary things (especially explosives)
This is true, duct tape and glue take up a lot of water now. That's why the water purifier mod is so OP, let's you save all your bottled water just for crafting.
except you can't make the dew collectors without finding a water filter which... YOU CANNOT CRAFT. So what the F@ck?? I'm constantly dying from dehydration now, as I can't drink out of any of the ponds or lakes, and raw eggs no longer give a hydration boost. I'm also playing the VR mod. Anyone know a mod that provides another way to get water at the start of the game, or just gets rid of needing water all together? because I'm pretty pissed.
If it's a huge issue and you're considering modding out the need to drink then you could always turn on creative mode by typing cm into the console and spawn in all the water you need. If not, like I said in the other reply, try just staying still with nothing in your hand looking at the water source and hopefully the prompt should come up
They better not patch the purification mod, that would be too cruel and plus, why add pools of water around the map only to make em useless since we cant fill our jars like a normal person..?
Put a landclaim block down relatively nearby, hold E and it should give you a hand icon on the radial menu, select that and your character will pick it up. Make sure you've smelted all your materials out first though because it resets all the materials to 0 when you do this. Hope this helps!
People complained that consuming drinks also consumed jars, so instead of giving an empty jar back after drinking something they just removed jars from the game completely. I literally can't think of a more profoundly idiotic game design choice in the history of videogames.
I was like where the hell is my water. I am actually struggling to find water and I had to buy it from that Traiter Joe for 120 dosh. Not to mention looting paper from a fuckin toilet everytime. Thank you time to check the POI instead of doing missions.
water's not really a big deal as i'm hearing. i started playing again after years, realized jars went away, and just adapted. unfortunately for me i started looking at vids and all i see is people whining about jars. people need to get over it and adapt. it's not that hard....

Glad it helped!
so how do you get murky water from a nearby river to be boiled?
You can't, they removed that mechanic in Alpha 21.
This glitchs alot. Half the time you dont get the option to drink water
Traders should have the filter you need to craft the dew collector by default, hope your luck improves!
@@The-Two-Five yeah once I saw your video I literally slapped myself in the face because I didn't see it in his inventory when I first went there.
If not, like I said in the other reply, try just staying still with nothing in your hand looking at the water source and hopefully the prompt should come up
. @NotOnly25; except I'm playing in VR now but I've certainly thought of it.
They better not patch the purification mod, that would be too cruel and plus, why add pools of water around the map only to make em useless since we cant fill our jars like a normal person..?
It's still very much in and its been months now so I think its safe :)
is there any way to move a forge?
Put a landclaim block down relatively nearby, hold E and it should give you a hand icon on the radial menu, select that and your character will pick it up. Make sure you've smelted all your materials out first though because it resets all the materials to 0 when you do this. Hope this helps!
@@The-Two-Five thanks alot dude
So did they patch this out?
Nope, still as per this video at time of writing apart from the slight changed they made in the top pinned comment
I got purifier mod in first day, but i didn t know how to use it...Suffered next 6 days without watter...man
At least you know for future!
I've never played this game until today and wondered, why can't I just reuse my water bottles? Oh right.. they removed that system.
Hopefully this guide helped!
@@The-Two-Five Can confirm I'm no longer thirsty!
People complained that consuming drinks also consumed jars, so instead of giving an empty jar back after drinking something they just removed jars from the game completely. I literally can't think of a more profoundly idiotic game design choice in the history of videogames.
Looks like the change is here to stay I'm afraid!
Couldn't agree more my dude
I still cant believe they got rid of the empty jars after murky/purifies water use. It makes no sense lol
Seems like the change is here to stay!
So dumb that you cant live off a nearby water source. How are you supposed to survive until you can make a dew collector?
WHY PATCH IT
Thanks for watching
I was like where the hell is my water. I am actually struggling to find water and I had to buy it from that Traiter Joe for 120 dosh. Not to mention looting paper from a fuckin toilet everytime. Thank you time to check the POI instead of doing missions.
Good luck!
It was a stupid idea to remove jars you get from drinking off a jar to begin with, since it's most realistic!
Thanks for watching!
Haven’t found a water filter in ten days and ide rather spawn one in then use the fing cheesy trader.
Maybe you could mod in a crafting recipe or up the loot probability? It is a shame for players who don't use traders.
water's not really a big deal as i'm hearing. i started playing again after years, realized jars went away, and just adapted. unfortunately for me i started looking at vids and all i see is people whining about jars. people need to get over it and adapt. it's not that hard....
Yeah, its not too bad once you adjust, I agree. Thanks for watching!
Bless thee
Thank you for watching!
ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 6 MONTHS? WTF! FIX THIS SHIT
Thanks for watching
@@The-Two-Five Thanks for the recognition as a veiwer
Getting rid of jars makes this game nearly unplayable
Dew collectors require 4 duct tape and duct tape requires glue. Glue requires water. This is dumb. Bring back jars.
