Setzer used to practice in the basement of Bernies Jet Set in Wantagh NY. He came to the back of the "cork and bib" for water. He usually wore these beat up pink spandex pants. Sort of like the New York Dolls look. I was washing dishes, never said no to the guy for water but the cook used to shoo him away. It must have 1977.

I love my Gretsch. It’s a straight up rock and roll machine. I bought it used and somehow I feel like we were meant to find each other. It brings things out of me like none of my other guitars do. If you don’t own one, you should.

King Brilliant he helped resurrect not one but two almost forgotten musical genres-obviously rockabilly with the Stray Cats in the late ‘70s and early ‘80’s, and swing with the BSO in the ‘90s. IMO, he’s one of the few legitimate musical geniuses left in the world. He seamlessly blends today with the past-some of his work sounds just like 1958, some of zooms into the future, and it all sounds GRRREAT!

    • @MrJett1971

Madcap Laughs the fans know that. People who write the magazines pass him by all the time, in favour of some 22 year old from Norway who plays 12,000 notes in a three minute song, or a guy that wore a kfc bucket on his head.

This dude is one of the best who ever lived. I learned Stray Cat Strut 10 years ago just to practice, and so many of his licks still come to me when I'm in C, just happens without even thinking about it. Brian and Wes Montgomery are right up there. Always amazing when a guitarist leaves with you an impression on an entire key and/or region of the neck. I think key of C I think Brian. Thanks Gretsch for these videos with Brian!

I'm glad that Brian has been able to have the success that he's had after the Stray Cats went their separate ways.
Brian's drive and enthusiasm for the old music genres he plays has turned on so many younger people/musicians to the coolness of the classic Gretch tone and vibe. The Brian Setzer Orchestra knocks 'em out...
    Keep playin' the cool stuff!

I met Brian Setzer back in the late seventies when the Stray Cats were topping the charts. We are both Long Island guys. I was managing a club near Central Park South called Thursday's when in he walks with some friends and a big jug of wine. I asked him if he would mind checking his wine with the coat check girl and he just grinned and said, "Cool". No bullshit like you sometimes got from some celebrities in Manhattan. I quickly called up to the DJ booth and asked her to play "Stray Cat Strut" which she did immediately. Brian looked back at me and gave me an appreciative thumbs up. I'm sure he wouldn't remember this encounter but it certainly made my night! A real gentleman and a great guitar player.

I bought this guitar 9 months ago. Got the greyish light purple one. Love at first sight. I took pause at it's high price, no tone control and just volume control, and I wondered if it could do all genres including R&B, soft jazz, funk, hard rock and country. This sweet thing does all these with ease. Loved that it had no pick guard. Dang sexy look. Plays as good as it looks. Fast neck like whipped cream. Hollow body gets controlled feedback at louder volumes. Volume control has slight high roll off at 90 percent solving the need for a tone control. Gretsch sound with TV Jones pickups tells the tale, seals the deal and is irresistible. Intonation is spot on and harmonically correct on all frets and I haven't changed the strings yet. No buyers remorse, no way. Heaven is hitting jazz chords unplugged on my couch Saturday mornings with eyes closed. This little lady sings. I call her the Rusty Rainbarrel.

The man, the myth, the Legend....
I drove from No Ho to Palm Springs for a Setzer Concert . I was thrilled ! I had my girl, and my hot rod !
We drove forever in hot bumper to bumper traffic, got out of the car, at the Augua Caliente, went up to the glass door.. that had sheet of paper taped to it.
It read: Concert is cancelled for 4 months, please enjoy our complimentary band: Cool and the gang . 😖
We went back home . It was a MISERABLE ride, all the way back home .
We finally went, 4 months later...and the show ? Was incredible !

You got me with the lefty in the background. No room for any more guitars at the moment, though...

These would look so much nicer with them f holes bound in the same colour as the sides.

I started planning for a potential custom order and thought Id want the same color on the top and back, and a diff one for the sides and the neck. and I thought it would be the first one Id ever see with a scheme like that. Haha.
