    This week we have the Cathedral Choir of St Gregory the Great singing 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel'
    O come, O come, Emmanuel,
    And ransom captive Israel,
    That mourns in lonely exile here,
    Until the Son of God appear.
    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
    Shall come to thee, O Israel.
    O come, thou Wisdom, from on high,
    And order all things, far and nigh;
    To us the path of knowledge show,
    And teach us in her ways to go.
    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
    Shall come to thee, O Israel.
    O come, thou Day-spring, come and cheer,
    Our spirits by thine advent here.
    Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
    And death's dark shadows put to flight.
    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
    Shall come to thee, O Israel.
    O come, Desire of nations, bind
    In one the hearts of all mankind;
    Bid every strife and sorrow cease
    And fill the world with heaven’s peace.
    Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
    Shall come to thee, O Israel.
    Hymn Tune: CONSOLATION, arranged by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, 1835

    Nice sounds. Jus curious, why is the chorus part cut short in timing for every chorus ??

      Hi jazzmusiclover peace, a blessed and merry Christmas to you! The original form of this hymn has the chorus sung right through the phrase "Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel" without a pause as it forms a complete sentence. Later adaptations may have a pause after "Emmanuel.....shall come to thee, O Israel", perhaps to allow people to breathe in the middle of that phrase. I hope this answers your question.

      Well at least that way it sounds like a complete sentence.

      Hello Mike, for these recordings, the choir is abiding by the government Covid-19 regulations which require almost all the choristers to be masked when singing.
